Chapter 6: Male Miko

“A male miko?! Really?? Souma?!”

“Ah, yes. That’s what it says here.”

“Who would’ve thought Souma is a male miko… The advanced class of a healer…”

Well, actually my job is a male saint, the highest class for a healer…

“Umm… Is there something wrong with male miko as a job?”

“No, not at all! In fact, it’s a very rare and wonderful job! To begin with, healer jobs are only available for males and furthermore, the healer job itself is very rare too. We only have one healer in this town and there’s only one male miko in the entire kingdom. A male miko is rarer than a healer since a male miko is one class higher than a healer.”

“The greatest trait a healer job possesses is their ability to use healing magic and holy magic. In fact, only people with healer jobs can use healing magic.”

“Huh?! Ordinary people can’t use magic?!”

Usually in games and isekai stories, most people could use healing magic. 

“Yeah. Adventurers use potions made from medicinal herbs. But still, the effects of potions are greatly inferior to the healing magic that healers can use.”

….Seriously? A fantasy world without healing magic? The difficulty level of this world is way too high. 

“Souma, do you mind if we test it out a bit? Of course, it’s not because we’re doubting you or anything.”

“Yes. Of course.”

Thalia-san took out a knife and made a small cut on her right thumb. A trickle of red blood started flowing almost immediately. 

….I see. She needs to injure herself first to test it out…

“As a healer, you should be able to use the healing magic called ‘Heal’. Give it a try.”

“Alright. I will try.”

That being said, I had never used magic before. The only time I ever saw magic was when Flora used that binding spell to seize the bandits. I wondered, could I really use healing magic?

I stretched both of my hands out at Thalia-san’s bleeding right thumb and focused my attention, willing the wound to heal in my mind.

“Heal!”

“Ooh!!”

As soon as I chanted ‘Heal’, Thalia-san’s thumb glowed faintly and the wound disappeared almost immediately. 

“I… I did it!!”

This sensation… So this was what using magic felt like. It was like sharing some kind of energy from within myself with other people. 

“A-Amazing! So this is what healing magic is like!”

“The wound is really closing!!”

Although I only healed a small cut on Thalia-san’s thumb, but I also felt astonished. 

So this is magic!

“Hmmm… For you to be able to successfully cast healing magic on your first try… This must be thanks to your power as a male miko! Souma! I have something to ask from you! Sometimes, people bring gravely injured people to the adventurers’ guild. Can you please treat them? Of course, we’ll pay you. With your power, you are qualified to work for the kingdom, but at least for now… Can you please lend us your power?”

Oooh!! Maybe I could earn some money with this! Besides, if I only had to use healing magic to treat injured people, that meant I wouldn’t need to risk seriously injuring myself in battle. However, serving the kingdom sounded troublesome…. I should put that option on hold for now. I didn’t want anything too bothersome. 

“Yes! Of course!”

“Ooh! Thank you, Souma! We truly appreciate it! Elmie, Ferris!”

“”Yes Ma’am!!”

“I’m issuing an emergency request to the A-rank adventurer party, Blue Eternity! Provide 24 hours protection for Souma! We will remunerate you handsomely! Cut anyone that dares to harm him! You have my permission to do so! Effective immediately!”

“”Understood!!””

…Their talk sounded a bit ominous. 

“Don’t you think that’s a bit excessive…?”

“No. Ordinary healers are often targeted, let alone a higher level class like a male miko. There will be many people trying to capture you. However, fret not. These women will protect you. Even among the most skilled adventurers in this guild, they are known for treating men with the utmost respect. You can rest easy.”

I could definitely trust them on that part. Thinking back, if they had the intention to harm me, they had plenty of chances to do so. When we first met, I had nothing on me. I was powerless. There was nothing I could do to stop them. In fact, I was the one that should be begging them to do as they pleased with me-… Crap. My thoughts were starting to wander into the lewd direction again… Banish these impure thoughts!! These women were my life savior!!!

“Yes. I trust them. After all, everyone from Blue Eternity has already saved me from monsters and bandits.”

“Yeah! Just leave it to us! We will protect you, Souma!”

“I’m looking forward to working with you, Souma.”

“Yes. Luckily Souma got to meet you guys first. Oh, and one more thing. Please keep Souma’s job as a male miko a secret as much as possible. Souma, please remember to provide treatment in a closed room and make sure other people will keep quiet about your job too.”

Right. I didn’t want to be targeted so I needed to keep my job a secret as much as I could. 

“I understand.”

“Then, let’s stop by the market to buy daily necessities for Souma before we head back home.”

“Yes. Thank you, everyone.”

After that, we reunited with Flora, who had been busy dealing with the bandits. Ferris and Elmie explained the details of our situations to her. 

Come to think of it, Flora can tell when someone is lying. I need to make sure she doesn’t find out that I’m actually a male saint. 

It was decided that I would stay at Blue Eternity’s house. They said staying in their house would be safer than staying at a regular inn. They also asked me if I didn’t mind staying under the same roof with three women, but honestly? I was the one that should ask if they were okay with me.

The Guild Master, Thalia-san, said she would bring detailed documents about healers to the party house. After all, I needed to have a better understanding of what a healer could do. 

After that, the three of them said they would escort me to the market to buy clothes. Apparently, I needed to buy it myself since it wouldn’t be appropriate for women to buy men’s clothes here…. Just like usual, the common sense of this world didn’t make any ‘sense’ for me. 

“Please! Someone! Help me!!”

We were about to leave the Guild Master’s room when suddenly, a loud voice echoed throughout the guild.
