Chapter 19: Intruder at the Clinic

“So, Souma-sama, do you like the treatment center?”

“Yes. It’s really amazing… Actually, I think this magnificent building is too good for me… Thank you very much for building such a wonderful place for me.”

Shortly after I was shown around the clinic, Delgart-san, the female dwarf I had treated yesterday, came to check on me. Even though this was a world of magic and fantasy, but it must had been very difficult to build such a wonderful building like this in just one day.

“No. Souma-sama, I’m the one who should be thanking you. After I severed a tendon, I became unable to move my hand. However, Souma-sama… You healed my hand. The only healer nearby refused to treat me because I’m a demi-human, even though I have the money to pay him. I was at a loss… I was considering making the long journey to another town in search of a healer that would treat me, but then I heard the rumor about you, Souma-sama.”

Delgart-san smiled serenely before she continued on. 

“Desperate as I was, I came to you and not only did you heal me for just 10 gold coins, but you were also very kind to me. Your words touched my heart. Hence why, I wanted to repay your kindness, even just for a little bit. I asked my companions, who were in charge of building this treatment center, to assist me in repaying your kindness. Souma-sama, if there’s anything you find not satisfactory, please let me know immediately. We will fix it in a jiffy!”

“No, the building is very spacious and I can see so many thoughts in the design. The layout is perfect to allow me to treat people easier. Truly, thank you so much! I appreciate your sentiments, but please, it’s better if you rest your body.”

Since only her tendon was severed, it seemed she wasn’t suffering from blood loss or anything, but still, it would be best if she rest her body for a few days at least. 

“Hahaha! I appreciate your kindness! I will never forget this favor, Souma-sama! If you ever need anything, I’ll always be here to help. Now then, if you’ll excuse me…”

“Delgart-san… Thank you.”

I didn’t expect she would thank me so profusely like this. However, it seemed the reputation of the other healer remained as bad as ever.

It seemed the number of patients had decreased significantly over the past two days. This morning, I only had about 20 people lined up for treatment. There were still many onlookers in front of the treatment center though. 

Eventually, the wave of people seeking treatment subsided. After the wave was over, I treated the patients who came sporadically one by one with regular Heal instead of Area Heal.

I opened the door to the waiting room and there stood a tall young woman who seemed to be in her 20s. She wasn’t wearing anything particularly impressive, but the metal chest plate suggested that she might be an adventurer. Blood was seeping from her side, but it didn’t look fatal. Moreover, since she was able to walk on her own, it seemed her wound wasn’t that serious. 

“Hey! I paid for healing magic two days ago, but the wound reopened after just one day!”

That’s not good! Maybe the healing effect of Area Heal is too weak? Or maybe her body doesn’t respond well to healing magic?! In any case, I need to check the wound and try to heal it again!

“I understand! Please get inside the treatment room now!”

The woman was closing in on me. She was taller than me and she had a sharp look in her eyes. Since I never got in a real fight in my original world, I felt terrified of her.

Before I realized it, Ferris had stepped in front of me with her shield up. Elmie looked ready to draw her sword at any given moment and Flora had her staff ready. 

Since yesterday, we had prohibited people from carrying their weapons into the treatment room and waiting room. Patients must either leave their weapons behind or entrusted their weapon at the Adventurers’ Guild next door. We usually checked for weapons at the entrance of the treatment center, but since this woman immediately stormed in angrily, she still had her weapon with her.

“Hey, hey, hey! You’re going to point your swords at someone you failed to treat?! Seeing how he failed to heal me properly, that guy must be a fake healer!”

The people in the waiting room and those in front of the treatment center began to murmur among themselves.

“….Now I understand. You must be hired by the other healer in this town to either harm Souma or to ruin his reputation.”
