Chapter 15: A Good Husband?

“….Hoam…. Alright. I’m able to wake up early today.”

Although I also didn’t stay up too late the day before yesterday, but just finding myself in another world made me feel exhausted. Since I went to bed early last night, I woke up just when the sun was rising. This made me feel really refreshed. 

“Souma, good morning. Are you sure you’re feeling alright to wake up this early?”

“Good morning, Elmie. I went to bed early last night and I don’t feel tired anymore.”

When I went downstairs to the living room, Elmie was already awake. She was maintaining her weapons. 

…Danger always lurks everywhere in this world after all. That’s right. This is normal. Sharpening your sword in the morning is normal. Right. 

“Ferris and Flore are still asleep, huh?”

“Yeah. They usually wake up later on.”

“I see. Then… Just like what I said yesterday, I will prepare today’s breakfast.”

“…Are you sure? Souma, you’re our guest. You don’t need to go out of your way to prepare meals for us.”

“Well, this is like my hobby. Besides, cooking is a good way to pass the time.”

“Well… If you insist…”

Yesterday, I wandered around the markets and the food stalls. It seemed the culinary world here wasn’t as developed compared to my original world. They basically only grill things and they mainly only use salt for seasoning. For a Japanese person like me who was accustomed to eating meals full of flavor, the food in this world was quite hard for my palate. 

Back when I was in Japan, I often made dinner for myself since both of my parents worked. Well, they also gave me pocket money for dinner. However, thanks to that, I was able to cook simple stuff. 

Besides, I had too much free time on my hands in this world. After returning to their party house, Elmie and the others would go out in the garden to train. Then, they would take care of the security system in the house and then they would maintain their weapons and armor. 

But for me, I didn’t have anything much to do aside from practicing magic. Hence why I decided to take two birds with one stone. Killing time and improving the quality of my life here, more precisely, in the culinary department. 

“….Good morning.”

“Good morning, Flora.”

Flora was already awake, but she still looked sleepy. She rubbed her eyes, seemingly still half-asleep. She looked so adorable. I could feel my heart getting healed right in the morning. 

“…Hoam.. Morning.”

“Good morning, Ferris… Wha-! Wait! You’re not wearing any pants!!!”

Just like Flora, Ferris was rubbing her eyes as she came down the stairs, seemingly still sleepy. However, while she had a t-shirt on, but she was only wearing her underwear on the bottom. A busty beauty donned in a t-shirt and panties… Th-The destructive power was too dangerous for someone like me!

“Huh? But I’m wearing something on top properly because I got scolded yesterday. It’s fine, right?”

There’s no way it’s fine! You’re still half-asleep too!!

“Please put something on the bottom too! Just like what I said yesterday, Ferris-san, imagine if I were walking around in just my underwear like you are right now!”

“So-Souma in just his underwear?! That would be dangerous!!”

“Fe-Ferris you stupid! Quickly! Go get dressed!”

“So-Sorry!”

Ferris quickly dashed back up the stairs to her room. 

Phew… Calm down… It’s okay… From where Elmie and Flora are sitting, they shouldn’t be able to see my groin. I need to think about a man’s muscles to calm myself down….

“Well… My bad, my bad! I’ll be more careful next time.”

“Yes, please do…”

Back in my original world, I would welcome this type of lucky pervert incident with open arms, but everyone here was my benefactor. I couldn’t possibly look at them in that way. Furthermore, their sense of chastity and modesty was the complete opposite of what was common in my original world. I felt really guilty for thinking about perverted thoughts when they did all of these things unconsciously. It was the same feeling you’d get if you accidentally stared at a girl’s underwear because she didn’t realize her skirt was flipped up. 

“….Good grief, you need to be more careful.”

“Yeah, leave it to me! By the way… Today’s breakfast looks really fancy!”

“Yeah, Souma prepared all of these early in the morning.”

“Souma, you can cook?”

“Just a little. My parents often came home late, so I sometimes made dinner and stuff.”

“I see! Well then, let’s dig in!”

I wondered if the meal I made would suit their palate. After all, I cooked it based on the knowledge I got from my original world. 

“Whoa! This is so delicious! It’s just vegetables but because of this creamy white sauce that tastes slightly tangy, the vegetables tastes so different!”

“The meat is great too! It’s salty, sweet and spicy at the same time! Really unique! Also, it goes well with the bread!”

“The bread filled with this white and yellow paste also tastes delicious! The flavor feels so gentle on my mouth!”

Judging from their reactions, it seemed they liked it. I decided to make mayonnaise as the first step to improve their diet. Mayonnaise was a staple in isekai stories after all. To make mayonnaise, I used vinegar, oil, salt, and eggs. We already had oil and salt, but I couldn’t find any rice vinegar at the market so I bought what I assumed to be grain vinegar. 

The tricky part was the eggs. Just as I assumed, people in this world didn’t eat eggs raw. Eggs in here spoil quickly, making them hard to manage as a product. So, I bought freshly laid eggs. They were a bit expensive though. I then purified the eggs with magic and made the mayonnaise with it. 

Although I practically eyeballed the proportions and the ingredients weren’t the best either, but I somehow managed to make mayonnaise. Or something that could be called mayonnaise. I made it last night. I tasted it and since I didn’t get sick this morning, I assumed the mayonnaise wouldn’t make other people sick either. Besides, I could heal them with healing magic if worse came to worst.

I mixed the mayonnaise with chopped hard boiled eggs to make egg salad sandwiches. As for the meat, I found fish sauce at the market so I made sweet and spicy marinade using it. I also bought cooking sake and sugar. Sugar was pretty expensive here. I marinated the meat, grilled it and added a bit of mayonnaise to turn it into a sweet and spicy meat sandwich.

“Souma, you’d make a great husband!”

“……..”

….Everyone was impressed with my cooking. But… I didn’t feel happy hearing that last comment.
