Chapter 14: End of the First Day of Treatment

“Souma, with this you’ve finished treating all the severely injured patients we gathered here. You’re done for today. Please go home and rest.”

“Huh? I’m still feeling fine though. There are still people waiting to get treated, right?”

In the end, not only was I able to successfully treat the beastkin child, but I was also able to treat the elderly woman’s husband. Both of them and their families were incredibly grateful to me. Seeing the joy etched in their faces made me felt glad that I could use healing magic.

“Yeah, but there’s no way you can finish treating everyone in just one day. Besides, you’ve treated so many severely injured people already. You also have used Area Heal 8 times. Even if your job is a male miko, you shouldn’t push yourself too much.”

Indeed. The remaining patients weren’t in grave danger. They either had broken bones, cuts, burns and other injuries that weren’t life-threatening even if they didn’t get treated immediately. 

After the first treatment I did with Area Heal, I used Area Heal again and rested for 30-40 minutes. I repeated the motion a few times. To be honest, I didn’t feel the need to rest that long, but the Guild Master and all members of Blue Eternity insisted. 

“I understand.”

Right. This was my first time treating patients. I didn’t have a clear understanding of how recovery magic worked anyway, so I decided to obediently follow the Guild Master’s advice for now. 

I kept on treating people until evening and so far, I felt fine. However, since there weren’t any emergency cases with the remaining patients, maybe it would be best if I stopped the treatment today. If my condition remained stable tomorrow, maybe I could ask them to gradually increase the number of patients I treated in a day. 

“Healer-sama, you’ve finished for the day?!”

“Please! We beg you! We can’t possibly pay 2 platinum coins! Please provide us with treatment for just 10 gold coins!”

“Please, we’re begging you! Help us!”

The remaining patients rushed in. It seemed they had heard from the guild’s staff that today’s treatment was over. 

“Today’s treatment session is over! But! Souma-dono will continue providing treatment from tomorrow onwards! Of course, the price remains the same! Only 10 gold coins! However, the rumors about today’s treatment will definitely spread so it’s best to anticipate a wave of injured individuals will come swarming in tomorrow. Those with minor injuries such as fractures and burns may have to wait a few days. I apologize for the delay, but I hope everyone can cooperate and be patient for a little longer. Also! Souma-dono is accompanied by an A-rank adventurer party. Even if you see Souma-dono in town, please refrain from disturbing him! Don’t cause any commotion that might attract a crowd! Thalia-san explained firmly. Indeed. If I were to treat patients in the middle of a city, a crowd was bound to gather around me, making me more vulnerable. 

“I got it, Guild Master! I’ll be sure to spread the word to those who aren’t here!”

“Everyone! Don’t cause any trouble for Souma-sama!!”

“Souma-sama! I’ll see you tomorrow then!”

It seemed the people who didn’t get to receive treatment today understood our situations. It was a relief things didn’t escalate into a riot.

“Souma, you were truly impressive today!”

“Yeah, you were so amazing back then.”

“That recovery magic of yours was incredible.”

“Thank you. I’m truly grateful I have all of you to guard me. I hope we can continue working together.”

We were walking together in town after leaving the Adventurers’ Guild. We could hear people gossiping about me from afar, but so far, no one dared to approach us. 

Not to mention, I was carrying 100 gold coins with me now. There were around 50 people that I treated. In total, I made 500 gold coins, or a whopping 5 million Japanese yen in just one day. 

There were some people that asked to pay in installment. I wasn’t in need of a large sum of money right now, but Thalia-san and everyone else from the Adventurers’ Guild insisted on paying me in full. I asked the guild to hold the remaining 400 gold coins though. After all, 500 gold coins were simply too heavy for me to carry around. 

Besides, I doubt I could earn hundreds of gold coins everyday. Judging from how expensive the treatment fees set by that greedy healer was, it meant there were many people who couldn’t afford it. It was only natural for people to come swarming in, given how long they had waited to get treated.

Even 10 gold coins still sounded a bit too expensive to me and even though this world was more dangerous than my original world, I still found it hard to imagine dozens of severely injured people appearing every day. Once I finish treating the currently available patients, I might only get a few new patients per day. 

“I want to go around the market today. Can I do that? Is it safe for me to do it?”

“Yeah. Don’t worry Souma, we’ve got you covered!”

“That’s right! Just leave it to us! We will protect you!”

“I will kill anyone who dares to come close to Souma.”

The three of them were really dependable. I might end up falling for them even if I didn’t mean to.

Also Flora, please don’t kill anyone just because they’re trying to get close to me. 

“Whoa~ I knew it~ The market is amazing!~”

I had stopped by the market yesterday, but I only bought the bare essentials. Since I earned a lot of money today, I wanted to buy more things. Besides, I also wanted to express my gratitude to all members of Blue Eternity for helping me. 

“Let me buy today’s dinner. After all, everyone has helped me against slimes and bandits yesterday.”

“No, Souma… It’s only natural for a woman to help a man, especially when that man is weaker. Besides, I can’t let a man like Souma treat us! If anything, we’re the one that should treat you!”

….Right. It’s weird for men to treat women to meals in this world. In fact, it should be the opposite here. 

“….But back in my homeland, it’s normal for men to treat women. So please, allow me to treat everyone today.”

“-?! So-Souma! Yo-Your face is too close!”

“Ah, sorry.”

I was whispering into Elmie’s ear because I wanted to tell her about the custom in my original world. But it seemed, I shouldn’t have done that. Indeed, I would also feel a bit flustered too if a girl were to whisper in my ear.

“….It’s not fair… Only Elmie gets to experience that…”

And just like that, I enjoyed going shopping with three lovely women accompanying me. I insisted and in the end, I was able to treat them to a meal at a food stall. Spending leisure time with these cute ladies almost felt like a date. I was really happy.

Well, that is, only if I close my eyes on the fact that they’re only accompanying me because they’re entrusted to guard me.
