The night was getting late, and the rain showed no sign of stopping. At this rate, we might not make it back to the nature house until dawn.

“We’re kind of in a mild survival situation, aren’t we?”

“Yeah. Good thing we ate dinner first.”

We sat on the old wooden floor, watching the storm through the window. Thanks to the curry we had eaten, we weren’t hungry. If we got thirsty, we could step outside for a moment.

Our gym clothes were wet from the rain. Not down to our underwear, but over half of my jacket and shorts were soaked. Shinozaki’s clothes looked about the same.

After finishing, she helped me take off my wet clothes. I could have resisted, but it was easier to go along. She was right, being wet was gross. And I didn’t want her to be in just her underwear while I stayed fully dressed.

Now we sat back down in our skimpy clothes. Taking off the wet clothes made us more comfortable, though it also made the air feel colder. Even in summer, it felt like early autumn tonight.

I found myself giving in, almost without realizing it.

“Just a way to relieve stress?”

That was how she put it.

After that, we got more comfortable and relaxed, shedding our wet clothes so we could warm up. I wasn’t completely uninterested, so I didn’t hesitate too much.

“…It feels nice.”

“Yeah…”

We just stayed close, trying to stay warm and forget how miserable the storm had made us.

We stayed close together, like a parent and child koala hugging for warmth.

The endless sound of the thunderstorm echoed around us, and just holding each other made all the bad feelings disappear.

We eventually both grew tired from the long night. Before we knew it, we had fallen asleep, and when we woke up, the morning sun was rising.
