Chapter 5 – The Heavy-Drinker Freyna

After lunch with Lana-sama and the others, I returned to the lodging and sat on the sofa in a daze, not feeling like going out anywhere.

I was given a week to decide, but it seems like such a good deal that I can’t help but be wary.

Just as I told Asha, it’s best to retire early from such a dangerous job as being an adventurer. A stable job outside of adventuring would be ideal.

But I can’t help but worry about the fact that this invitation is from the Knights Brigade, which are all women.

I’m a healer.

By using Holy magic, I can do things that normal healing magicians can’t do, such as purification and cleansing, but I’m not sure if that’s enough to get me scouted into the brigade.

As some of my memories from my past life returned, I believe I understand human anatomy quite well. And it’s not that the Holy attribute is rare. The main effects of healing using Holy magic are to improve self-healing ability and sterilization.

When I returned to the lodging, I thought over and over about being invited to join the Fourth Knights Brigade, and worried about what to do.

As the sun was setting and I was worrying, there was a knock on the door.

Someone’s here again?

I’m not as tired as yesterday, so I don’t think I’ll be swept away this time…

“Salt-dono, it’s Freyna. The Commander of the Fourth Knights.”

“Huh?! Freyna-sama!”

I hurriedly opened the door.

Freyna-sama was standing on the other side of the door, not in the nice clothes she had at lunch, but in a somewhat sloppy, casual outfit.

“Though we just parted, may I have a moment?”

“Of course, would you like to come in?”

“No, I’m not so careless as to enter a man’s room at night.”

I was still in the clothes I wore to lunch, not having changed yet.

I didn’t want to get them dirty, but I didn’t have any clothes to walk around in with Freyna-sama, so I decided to go out as I was.

“Where are we going?”

“I don’t want to walk around outside too much and be found by my subordinates, who might tease me. How about the lounge in this lodge?”

“Of course.”

We headed together to the lodge’s lounge.

The lounge on the top floor is high enough to see the city lights.

“Beautiful…”

“!!! Thank you. Strangely enough, hearing it from Salt-dono doesn’t make me feel bad.”

I intended to compliment the night view, but it seems she misunderstood.

Well, even though she’s dressed casually, Freyna-sama is beautiful.

Her medium-length red hair reaches past her shoulders, and she looks feminine yet cool.

“Do you come here often?”

“Occasionally. I can’t take the members with me, so it’s only when I feel like enjoying a drink by myself.”

I’m glad she’s inviting me to such a place, but isn’t she letting her guard down a bit too much?

“Once again, I would like to thank you. I appreciate you saving my team.”

“Lana-sama has thanked me multiple times already.”

“That shows how grateful we are.”

“Haha, I’m just glad I was able to arrive in time.”

I tried not to look at Freyna-sama and took a sip of the drink that was offered to me.

Though I feel nervous, it’s good that I had a full stomach from lunch.

I’m not very good with alcohol, so as long as I purify the alcohol while drinking, there shouldn’t be any problem.

“Oh, Salt-dono, are you a good drinker?”

As I gulped it down in one gulp to check if the purification effect was working, an excited voice came from beside me.

“Well, I can drink as much as I want without getting drunk (thanks to purification).”

“Really?! I’m quite a heavy drinker. I’ve been looking for someone to have a drinking contest with.”

She must really like alcohol.

Hearing her say that with sparkling eyes, I feel bad to refuse.

“Drinking contest, huh? Of course I don’t mind.”

“Is that so? Well, I’ll just go along as best I can.”

“It’s been a while. No one has been drinking with me lately, even when I’ve invited them.”

Ah! So earlier, when she said she would come here alone, she was just trying to sound cool! In reality, maybe no one wants to drink with the heavy-drinker Freyna-sama!

Well, I wouldn’t get drunk since I could purify the alcohol while drinking, so I guess I can accompany her while I’m in Corias.

“I’ll keep you company as long as you want tonight.”

“That’s the spirit! Tonight, it’s my treat! Let’s drink till dawn!”

I don’t know how long we’ve been drinking.

I’m sure it’s already a different day now.

We’re the only ones left in the bar.

Freyna-sama is completely slurring now.

And with that, she collapsed and fell asleep.

I asked the lodging staff if there was a vacant room available, but…

“We’re terribly sorry. The harvest festival will be held in Corias soon, so there are no rooms available.”

“Haa~ I understand. Can I ask for bath attendants at this hour?”

“Of course. I’ll have them head to your room.”

I asked the front desk staff to call two female bath attendants who would help Freyna-sama bathe and change into nightwear.

Freyna-sama is tall, so it would be difficult if there were only one attendant.

“For now, I’ll carry her to the room.”

“Will that be okay?”

“Yeah.”

This is more like a perk.

I picked up Freyna-sama and had the lodging staff open the door for me so I could lay her down on the bed.

After the attendants arrived, we switched places and I left the room.

I decided to sleep on the sofa at the front desk.

I would feel bad for Freyna-sama if we slept in the same room and some weird rumors started to spread.

Although I missed the chance to sleep on a comfortable bed, it can’t be helped.

“You’re quite a gentleman, sir.”

“I’m just a coward.”

After the front desk staff bowed to me, I went to sleep on the sofa.

Still, it felt much better than sleeping outside on the hard ground.
