Chapter 1 – The Beautiful, Silver-Haired Female Knight

A carriage was surrounded by skeletons and ghosts.

First, I had to divert the monsters’ attention from the carriage.

“Hey! Is anyone injured?”

I raised my voice, and the mist-like monsters known as ghosts and wraiths turned to look my way.

However, a knight was still fighting to protect the carriage.

The skeletons didn’t seem to hear me, and continued fighting the knight.

“I’m an adventurer! I’ll help!”

“Thanks for the assistance!”

I was able to communicate my intentions even through the monsters.

The knight glanced my way for a moment, and I could see that she was a beautiful female knight with sparkling silver hair. My eyes met those of her clear silver eyes.

I activated Holy magic on the swarm of ghosts approaching me.

When I took the adventurer aptitude test, I found that I have the aptitude for the Holy attribute.

Holy magic is one of the thirteen attributes in this world: earth, water, fire, wind, void, light, dark, lightning, ice, healing, holy, death, and space-time.

Having a holy attribute isn’t particularly rare, but it’s not common either.

“Holy Cross!”

I erased the ghosts with a Holy Arrow and blew away the wraiths with the power of the Holy Cross.

The undead monsters born from the miasma have the Death attribute, making them particularly vulnerable to Holy magic.

I then readied my dagger, imbuing it with Holy magic, and slashed at the skeletons.

Because of our time as a party together, I had learned to use a dagger as a thief, so even on my own, I could use martial arts to knock down skeletons.

We managed to reduce the number of enemies enough to join forces with the knight.

“Are there any injured?”

She had been fighting alone, and although there was a carriage, I saw no one else.

I let out a sigh of relief as we joined forces.

“There’s someone seriously injured in the carriage. The others left to guide the subject to escape. I stayed behind to hold off the enemies.”

“A Wraith King?! Fine, I’ll take him on. Can you take care of the skeletons?”

Trusting each other, I readied my dagger and began cutting down skeletons.

Just as you’d expect from a knight, her attacks are more accurate than mine.

Her swordsmanship is more orthodox than Asha’s and her defenses are stronger.

“Now!”

As the path was cleared, I charged at the Wraith King, who was summoning undead.

“You’re more powerful than a normal wraith. I’ll finish you off in one go! Sacred Cross!”

When I chanted a high-ranking Holy magic spell, the Holy power purified everything.

“Wraith King, become lost!”

The powerful monster, fueled by miasma, rampaged but was purified by the Holy magic, fulfilling the destiny of the Holy attribute.

“Grraaahhh!!!”

The Wraith King screamed as it was purified, consuming half of my magic.

“Somehow it worked out.”

Looking back, I saw the skeletons and ghosts disappear as well.

“Where’s the injured?”

“This way.”

I could tell the silver-haired female knight was exhausted, but I decided to turn my attention to the seriously injured.

Inside the carriage was a small but cute chestnut-haired female knight.

She must have been slashed by a skeleton from the shoulder as she’s bleeding badly.

“Do you have a blood replenishing potion?”

“Yes, in the medical kit.”

“Okay, then let me drink it.”

“How are you…”

The female knight looked confused, but I didn’t have time to explain.

I took the blood replenishing potion, put it in my mouth with some water, and transferred it mouth-to-mouth to the injured knight.

“Heal!”

I then casted a Heal spell.

Unfortunately, my holy attribute magic doesn’t heal as quickly as a healer with the Healing attribute.

If I don’t keep casting healing magic for a good minute, Holy healing magic won’t be effective.

This is one of the reasons why I can’t specialize in being a healer.

“Amazing!”

“Really? Well, a proper healer could heal her faster.”

“But who can heal such serious injuries?”

“If someone with the Healing attribute used High Heal, it would have been quicker. Unfortunately, my Holy attribute makes healing slower, and it also consumes a lot of magic power.”

I managed to heal all the cuts.

I also gave her a blood replenishment potion, so she won’t die from blood loss.

“Mei! I’m so glad!”

The silver-haired knight hugged the small chestnut knight and expressed her joy.

Having fought and used up all my magical power for healing, I was nearing my limit.

“Are you okay?! Your face is completely pale.”

I collapsed and leaned back against the carriage seat, falling asleep.

“Are you awake?”

I finally got my mind together and understood the situation.

“Yeah, our comrades have returned with reinforcements. They’re currently driving the carriage towards the town.”

It seems that after three days of walking to reach the border, I had slept in the carriage all day. I was rescued by the knights who were stationed in a nearby village, and they carried me to the walled city.

“I am truly grateful that you helped us. I am Krish, vice-commander of the Fourth Knights of Corias.”

“Ah, yeah. I am Salt, an adventurer.”

Krish-san extended her hand for a handshake, and I introduced myself.
