- Chapter 13 - With a Friend like This, Who Needs Enemies?
Damn…
What a headache. It feels like I got hit by a train.
Damn…
Who the heck did this?
“Well, look who finally decided to join the land of the living.”
I groggily opened my eyes to find myself staring at Leonardo, the boy who’d woken me up. We were in a room, but it wasn’t just any room — it was a small, blindingly white box. No windows, no doors, just endless white.
“What is this?” I muttered, trying to look around for any exit, but there was nothing.
“How long has it been, Norisa…”
Before I could react, Daphne appeared out of nowhere, as if the very air had spat her out. Her entrance wasn’t just sudden — it was eerie, like a glitch in reality. One second, she wasn’t there, and the next, she was standing right beside us, a sly grin tugging at her lips.
“W-What do you want with me? Who the heck are you?” Norisa stammered, the fear creeping into his voice.
“Do you know her, Norisa?”
“Maybe…”
“Don’t you remember me? I’m your ex-girlfriend, Esther…”
Esther…
Oh, I remember her now!
The crazy fujoshi-obsessed with her wild fantasies. She had this weird thing about wanting to pair Norisa up with guys just to satisfy her twisted kinks. She was nuts — completely shattered his heart and left him in pieces. Damn. Now that’s a plot twist I didn’t see coming.
And as if on cue, another girl popped up just like Esther, with that same eerie suddenness.
“Long time no see, Norisa!” she chirped.
Well, this just keeps getting better and better. Two crazy exes and a guy who’s clearly not thrilled about being here. I sighed, trying to figure out a way to get out of this mess.
“Well guys, I see that you have a lot to talk about. My name’s Adriel, by the way, but uh… I can tell your interest is all in Norisa. So, if you could just let me go, you can keep him…”
I started to edge toward what I hoped might be an exit. Not that I’d actually abandon Norisa — no, no way. I just needed them to drop their guard, just a little.
Seriously, I swear!
“Adriel, you fucker, where the hell do you think you’re going?” Norisa snapped.
“Buddy, they want you. It’s springtime! Enjoy…”
“Like hell, I would! One’s a guy — eek — and the other’s a crazy fujoshi. The last one I don’t even know!” Norisa shot back, his face twisting in disgust.
“Man, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Dig in! Let me go, please…”
I tried to slip away, but —
“Where do you think you’re going?” Esther grabbed my arm, her grip vise-like.
“W-Well, you want Norisa, not me, so…”
“So what? I really don’t want you, but a guy paid to kidnap me…”
“Hahaha, Adriel, and you call me a BL magnet. Serves you right…” Norisa started laughing, a mix of relief and amusement dancing in his eyes.
“Sorry, as much as I like meeting new people, I’m not into guys. But hey, you can have Norisa, so it’s a win-win…”
“What the heck, man? Are you really going to abandon me? Aren’t we supposed to be friends?” Norisa shot back, his voice edged with a mix of disbelief and panic.
But I noticed something no one else did — Norisa’s hands were moving subtly, fingers curling and flexing in a series of strange, deliberate motions. He kept his hands low, out of the other’s line of sight, but I caught every move. He started with a slow, almost casual flick of his wrist, followed by a quick, almost imperceptible tapping of his index finger against his thumb, like a secret code. Then, his hand twisted, palm facing downward as he drew a small circle in the air, ending with a sharp snap of his fingers.
“You don’t need to get all emotional,” I said, keeping the banter light to buy us some time. “You know I’d do the same for you. Sacrifice yourself, man — at least one of us has to escape…”
“Like hell…”
“Damn, you two chatterboxes! Are you out of your minds? NORISA will be ours, and we’ll sell YOU, ADRIEL, for a good price. Then we’ll live a happy life…”
“Oh, I see. When you put it like that, it makes more sense. Why didn’t you explain it earlier?!” I said, stalling further with mindless chit-chat.
I had to keep their attention on me, keep them talking, while Norisa worked his magic.
“Oof… why are you two so chatty…” one of them grumbled.
“It’s ready…” Norisa muttered under his breath, a triumphant smirk tugging at his lips.
Suddenly, with a swift, almost theatrical flourish, Norisa’s hand snapped out, and a smartphone materialized in his palm, as if summoned by the very air. He motioned for me to come closer, guiding me toward the strange girl who still hadn’t introduced herself — not that we’d given her enough time to.
But introductions would have to wait.
He placed her hand on my shoulder, and I could feel the tension crackling in the air.
Norisa angled the smartphone, positioning it toward us.
“What are you going to do? There’s no signal here, Norisa. We’re miles below the sea…” Leonardo said, his voice laced with confusion. He clearly had no idea what was about to happen.
Well, to be honest, neither did I.
“You know, Adriel’s got three crazy girlfriends. They rigged him with all sorts of security devices, just in case. And if one of those failed — or if I ever saw him with other girls — they gave me this smartphone. I don’t know exactly how it works, but they said if I send a message, even if we’re in another universe, it’ll reach them…”
Norisa began, a mischievous glint in his eye.
Click.
A camera shutter sound echoed in the room.
No… he wouldn’t…
“You idiot, you just had to send an SOS…”
“That’s because you were thinking of ditching me, you bastard.”
“Who did you send it to?” I asked, dread creeping into my voice.
“I sent it to Elizabeth… I’ll see you in hell…”
And then — Boom.
