- 38: Fighting and Sliding as we Escape
Outside the castle’s interior, by the prison station, an army of about 500 soldiers came running in after hearing a bell rang across the streets coming from the prison.
With it, only four people were found handling such a large number of people.
Alexander who lead with his iron sword.
Bedever who supported with his endless rain of arrows.
And Tyson and Orion who came pushing each soldier down as if they were nothing. The four Imperial Dragons were superior compared to the disorganized soldiers running to their direction.
“Where are the others?” asked Tyson as he was beating up soldiers left and right.
“We had them escape. Genevieve was badly injured and so was Martin, so we had Rocky and Tofan took care of them while we’re out here causing trouble as usual.” said Orion.
“Well, we have to escape as well…what are we going to do about this situation!?” asked Tyson.
“I don’t know, but I’m sure Alexander is hatching up a plan. Lets just wait for him to lead us away from here.” said Orion.
Meanwhile as the four of them continuously fended off the Soldiers, Alexander was nervously looking around to find a way out of the mess that they were in.
“Bedever! can you find a way out for us?” asked Alexander as he continued to fend off the soldiers while Bedever stood far from the thr, where he stood along the tall watch towers.
“…” looking around, Bedever tried to search for a path had the less gathered soldiers.
“Alexander!” having shouted Alexander’s name, Bedever pointed his bow down to a certain direction. The southwest part of the Prison. Although it had no entrance, or any pathway for that matter, the Imperial Dragons can easily leap over the walls in ease.
So without any hesitation, all four of them rushed down to that certain Direction. With Bedever covering as a support in the back, he wanted to make sure that at least all three of the others could escape safely.
He was slowly running out of arrows from his back and as he was about to reach a certain point of desperation, all of a sudden, a smoke bomb was thrown down under his foot.
The smoke scattered all over the area and with it, this gave Bedever the chance to escape.
Having ran further away for about a minute, having to want to escape from the crowding guards, he leaped and sneaked across over a dozen guards by hiding in the bushes and sneaking in the Shadows. But after a while, Bedever came to a halt as he saw Alexander, Orion and Tyson, hiding over a gathered pile of barrels neatly arranged.
Without hesitation, he approached them and was happy to see that they were all safe.
“Good, Bedever you made it.” whispered Orion.
“What are we going to do?” asked Bedever.
“Look.” said Tyson as he pointed to a certain direction upfront.
“Damn, their everywhere.” said Bedever as he could see the vigilant eyes of the soldiers all over the streets.
“Thankfully its dark, so we can hide well enough, but we can’t no longer hide in the sewers, that’s probably the first place that the guards would search in. We should return back to the Docks.” said Tyson.
“…If we’re leaving, what about the princess?” asked Bedever rather nervously.
“I don’t know. Tyson, you said that Shirley and Louis made their way to the castle right?” asked Alexander
“Yes, I did.” said Tyson.
“Hmm, We don’t know the circumstances of the princess’s condition, or even the matter with Shirley or Louis. So acting recklessly will probably do more harm than good in the mission.” said Alexander.
“And there’s the matter with Martin and the others. Seeing how quick the Guards were able to come to the station means that they probably didn’t have time to find a doctor or anyone to help Genevieve. Where do you think they went?” asked Bedever.
“…They should be be able to hide themselves as long as Rocky and Tofan are with them. But aside from that, Alexander what should we do?” said Orion.
“…Hmm, the only place that the guards won’t look might be the only place that we have a chance at accomplishing our mission.” said Alexander.
“What are you saying?” asked Orion.
“We’re going to the castle. There, we’ll try to look for Shirley and Louis and make our plan to take action regarding the princess’s whereabouts.” said Alexander.
“But you said that we can’t be reckless about this.” said Tyson.
“Yes I did, but that depends on the situation. If the princess isn’t within their hands, we might have to take the risk of killing the Demon ourselves…but if the princess is secured, then we don’t have to fight the Demon, We’ll only be going to escape and let the marching army from the Empire handle the situation.” said Alexander.
“…”” the rest of the group simply looked uncertain by the plan, but seeing as how there wasn’t really any other option, they just had to follow through.
Meanwhile, down on the deepest part of a sewer, Rocky was leading ahead with a torch on his hand.
“…Where are we going?” asked Martin in his rough voice.
“We’re looking for a way out.”
“Why? The rest are still out there.” said Martin.
“We can’t go back. If we did, we’ll only meet with a group of guards. Fighting them now, will only cause more trouble than what is given. I won’t take that chance, not with you and Genevieve on Tofan’s back.” said Old man Rocky.
“…” With Tofan being reasonable, he kept his mouth shut as he followed Rocky.
After 15 more minutes of walking, they finally came to a stop as up ahead of them was the sight of a crossroad. One leading left and the other leading right.
“…Which way should we go?” asked Martin as he was trying to keep himself conscious.
“Hold on, I’ll check.” said Rocky as he went and walked to the left side of the pathway in the sewer.
Five minutes later, he came back with a rather hesitant reaction.
“What’s wrong?” asked Martin.
“Guards, over a dozen of them. We should go the other way.” said Rocky.
And with that, they all quickly made way to the right side of the sewer path.
As they ran deeper into the sewers, Rocky noticed that the deeper they went, the more it became a sloped path leading downwards.
At a 15 degree angle of a slope, it was at a point that Tofan and Rocky could barely stand up straight without slipping down against the sewer floors.
“Sh-should we continue? I don’t like where we’re headed.” said Martin.
“…Maybe we should go back.” said Rocky but the moment they turned around, Tofan accidentally slipped on the floor and he landed on his side.
*Thud!*
“T-tofan?” Rocky was surprised by Tofan’s fall that he tried to approach them to help him back up.
But by that fall, he started sliding downwards the sewer with Genevieve on his arms and Martin who was unfortunately let go on his impact also started sliding down. Both him and martin slowly went down the sewers with no way of stopping such a slippery floor.
“Tofan!?” Martin tried to do something, but his hands and feet could not hold on to anything as it was very slippery.
Rocky tried to help them by catching up, but to his unfortunate demise, he also slipped and hit his back. By then, he heard an unfortunate crack which made him scream like any old man would.
“Youch!!” he said as pain started to gather at his back.
All four of them were slowly making their way to the deeper and deeper parts of the sewers. Rocky’s torch finally lets out about halfway down sliding on the slope. and with it, they were continuously sliding in a dark path.
They slid down for about 10 minutes straight without stopping and only after then, they finally stopped as they crashed against a wall.
*Thud!*
Here, as Tofan and Rocky tried to stand up, Rocky immediately tried to make a fire to light up the room, but to his notion of doing so, he suddenly notices that the room that was dark a minute ago suddenly started lighting up with a green glowing light.
“…What is this?” asked Rocky as he turned to look at the ceiling.
There, he saw moss gathered at the ceiling and glowing its beautiful light.
And to its light, it showed the very door that stood in front of Rocky and Tofan.
To his curiosity, Rocky didn’t hesitate to open the door. Having to push it open, the door made no efforts to be locked and opened its path to Tofan and Rocky.
“”!?”” and to their amazement, what appeared before them was nothing but the scene of a ruined city.
Here, lied the past city of the Hearts Kingdom. The Place known as the Heart of the Kingdom.
With its center being a deep pool of clear untouched water, and its surroundings being that of a crumbling and delicate city, the heart of the buried kingdom remained somewhat ominous.
Having been curious, Rocky made the lead to step into the buried city.
“What is this place?” asked Martin as to his bewilderment, he spoke of a comment.
“…I don’t know. But we have to find a way out. Climbing our way back up the slope wont do us any good with how far we slipped down.” said Rocky.
“right.” said Martin
“Good, but before that, we should get ourselves dry. Slipping over sewage water for minutes on end isn’t really a good thing for our bodies. Let’s wash our clothes by the water and make a fire.” said Rocky.
With that, Tofan made the decision to put Genevieve and Martin down next to the water while Rocky was looking around, searching for firewood in the ruined city.
As Rocky was looking for firewood in the silent ruined city, all of a sudden, he hears a thumping sound from above the city.
*Ba-dump*
From where he stood, it seemed as though he was hearing a heartbeat from the sky.
“…What is that?” he asked himself.
*Ba-dump*
And then another came to his ear.
As if a giant was stepping on the very ceiling of the city.
*Ba-dump*
*Ba-dump*
*Ba-dump*
*Ba-dump*
Soon it became frequent.
*Ba-dump*
*Ba-dump*
*Ba-dump*
*Ba-dump!*
*Ba-dump!*
*Ba-dump!*
*Ba-dump!!*
*Ba-dump!!*
*Ba-dump!!!*
It became very frequent and much louder that Rocky was getting more and more nervous as the ceiling began to shake nd debris began to fall.
*THUMP!!*
Not long after, the ceiling was pierced through by an undetectable falling object.
One was the sight of a monster who was screeching like a mad dog while the other was a man covered in black flames, screaming in a maddening tone.
As quick as he could, he dropped his collected wood and ran back to where Genevieve and Martin were.
*Boom!*
There, a sounding boom occurred as the two falling objects fell on the water.
As he stared at the pool of water, he heard the mumbling voice of two people that were somewhat familiar to him. It came from above.
As he turned his head up, Rocky saw the faces of two young women, supporting each other as they tried to not fall into the water.
Those two young women were none other than Shirley and Princess Abigail.
“Tofan!! Quick, get back here!” shouted Rocky.
And with his call, Tofan came running back with a pile of wood stacked on his arms.
“..!?” asked Tofan.
“There! Up on the ceiling, the princess is there!” said Rocky.
“W-What? How is that possible?” asked Martin as he looked up the ceiling.
How was it possible? It all happened a few minutes back right when Rocky and his group went down to hide in the sewers. It was at that time, that Shay and Pestilus were still fighting non-stop.
***Shay’s POV**
‘How is this possible? The Castle walls are still not broken despite the fact that I kept on punching down on them.’ he thought as he was trying to break through the castle walls.
What he wanted to do out of the desperate situation that he was in was to reveal the battle towards the people outside the castle.
Seeing as how loud their battle was, it would have been normal for the guards to barge in the castle and see what was going on, but out of the minutes that they have been fighting, not once did a single guard came to inspect the situation.
Something was keeping the guards away from the castle room.
“Why are you hitting the walls? Are you that curious as to what is going on?” asked Pestilus as he smiled at Shay with a confidence that was ever so brimming with the plague.
And with those words, he raised his hands and he conjured an army of the living dead straight from the ground.
“…Ruin him.” as the Count said these words, the dead army came lounging themselves at Shay like they were dogs.
“Tsk!” but to his vigilant skill in hand to hand combat, he was able to quickly kill off the dead with just one punch each to the head. Its be his common knowledge that a zombie dies by being hit in the one place that functions as the base of command. And that place being the brain.
One hit and his hand was easily able to pierce through the mushy heads of the zombies.
“Your incredible strength is one that can make men envy, how is it that someone like you has never been made notice by the public eyes of those kings and nobles?” asked the Count.
“Shut the fuck up, What’s up with this place? A minute ago, I fell through the roof like it was made of biscuits, but now even with my strength, I can’t pierce through the walls..its almost like its been layered and reinforced by some magic.” said Shay.
“Now now, you don’t have the right to ask the questions. Not when you were the one who intruded in my domain.” said the demon count.
“…”
“Its obvious that not one of our attacks can harm each other. You with your amazing regenerative powers and incredible strength. Me and my vast powers of magic that could rival a country, one could say that we’re even with one another.” said the Demon.
“…”
“Don’t be so savage…but fine, if you want to talk, lets talk. Since I want it to be fair, we get to ask questions about ourselves…to one another.” said Demon as an untrustful smile appeared on his face.
“Fine.” answered Shay.
“Since, you asked first, then I’ll gladly answer you. Yes, the walls and roofs of this room have been fully reinforced with my magic. An illusion that completely blocks any sound or vibrations to the outside world. I made it happen the moment I smelled your scent in this room.” said the Demon with a smile.
“…”
“Okay then, my turn to ask the question. What kind of God do you worship? Was it the God of Strength and Battle? The God of Health? Or are you a simple man simply born with the scent of a God’s blessing?”
“…I serve the God of creation.”
“…Tellus? You serve under her? My, aren’t you honest. That explains why I can’t hurt you…that explains a lot.” said the Demon as his presence suddenly turns rancid.
With it, his power suddenly surges throughout the room and with it, black flames erupted from the ground. Causing cracks that spewed smoke that made Shay nauseous as he had a faint smell over that gas. But he didn’t fell down so easily, he had kept his stance even when Pestilus’s presence changed.
“We should just end this now…knowing that a God has sent her messenger upon me, I know well enough for my safety that my death was already made certain.” said Pestilus as all of a sudden, his body suddenly became muscular all over and his face completely tore off and showed its skeletal look down unto Shay.
“…” Shay couldn’t help but feel that the Demon in front of him has gotten stronger.
“But that doesn’t mean anything, if I kill you first. You may have strong regenerative powers, but you are not immortal.” as he said this, he conjured a staff on his arms and that staff showed the severed heads of many people who he killed in the past. One of which was the face of the king who ruled the Hearts Kingdom.
“…”
“You may be God’s messenger, but I am Death Defined.” as he said this, the moment he let his staff touch the very floor spewing weird gas, it started growing thorny roses all over, and with it, all of those thorny vines, came turning to Shay with a venomous sap dripping on their thorns.
The moment the demon count stepped his foot, the thorns took action and launched themselves at the man with the intention to spear through him like a kebab.
Seeing this, Shay felt fear more intense than that of a gun being pointed at his head, no, this was more likely a machine gun rather than a simple pistol.
Having felt the fear, he could only do the one thing that he could at the moment. And that was to dodge.
But to his decision to do so, he didn’t take into account that it wasn’t just one group of sturdy thorn vines being controlled, it was all the thorns all over the floors of the castle. The moment he jumped, another bundle of thorns came flying off the ground and it struck him right on his chest. There was no escape to this attack.
“Khk!!” it was a clear strike that made Shay cough up blood.
“Hmph, Death awaits you, Farmer.” said Pestilus as he raised Shay off the ground and he positioned him in a cross pose.
“…!!” Shay couldn’t do anything but squirm in pain as the thorns dug themselves into his flesh like a tapeworm.
Here, it seems like Shay was at his end.
