- 34: A Mad Mage's Reform and the Introduction to a Talented Farmer
***Aprecius Khali’s POV***
With the mage in front of me continuing his work towards turning into a part demon-part man, I continued to lay in the cage that I was tied in.
“…its really quite something.” said the mad mage.
“…?” to my curiosity, I weakly turned to him with so much effort but with so little turn.
“so this is what being a demon is like.” said the mad mage. And as he does so, he showed me his hand.
With a beating heart on his right hand, and a parasite on the other, he dropped the parasite down to the heart and let it eat the heart like it was its meal. A minute passed by and already, the heart was completely devoured by the parasite.
“…” shock and disgust was all that was place on my faced as I saw the gore of it all. As by the end of it all, the parasite was as big as the heart itself.
“Now then, time for me to claim my feast.” as he said this, he raised his hand holding the parasite the size of a heart, up over his head and he simply smile and opened his mouth like a gate. His gnawing mouth was as horrid as the parasite itself, it made me feel shivers down my spine.
Not a second later, he drops the parasite into his mouth and swallowed it whole like snake who hasn’t eaten in weeks.
He licked his mouth in the delirious imagination that it was fruitful, and turned his head to me with a rather lustful gaze.
“…”
He smiled and spoke.
“Kh-!!” but before he could finish speaking a single word of my name, all of a sudden, his whole body fell to the floor as if he was carrying a one-ton sized weight, and to this, he struggled to stay up on his feet.
“KhhhAAAAHHH!!!” he screamed as if he was in agonizing pain. Struggling to stay put, he rolled all over like a worm. Feeling so uncomfortable in his moment, he started sweating like a faucet and he started spewing steam like a kettle.
To this unbelievable heat, he tore his shirt off as easily as he could, and with that action he showed the state of his body.
It was by then that as he laid on the floor, shaking as if he was in fever, that a few black spots suddenly started popping out and devouring the color of his skin.
Each spot was swirling as if each of those spots were alive and crawling all over…just like the parasite’s movement.
This painful view continued until the spots finally came to its unmoving state…and what it ended in, was the sight of the mad mage who seemingly stood up from the ground.
His body was still the same except for the fact that black spots were all over, yet his eyes, his face…
They were all contorted with the expression of a smiling corpse.
“Khali…I did it, I finally did it.” said the mad mage.
“…You did, and it turned you into an unfeeling demon.” I said as I looked disappointed to his determined smile.
“Half-demon, I couldn’t risk losing everything that makes me who I am…if I did, the minute I turned into a true demon, you would have been eaten as my snack.” said the mad mage.
“…either way,you look hideous.”
“Oh, but I’m a mage. Its easy to trick the mind of the common folk with a simple spell…I can easily turn back to my original form as I please.” as the mage said his piece, he casted a spell on himself to turn back into the noble-looking man he used to look as. With his clothes and everything back to normal.
“see? It’s much easier now.” he said.
“…if a mage were to see you, he can easily smell the scent of a demon on you. Even now, at my weakest point, I can tell that you’ve completely made yourself into part-demon.”
“…Is that so?” looking at me with a rather glaring and blood-intended gaze, he turned his way to my blood and he smiled.
“hehehe, I’m a bit parched. Do you mind if I drink a bit of your succulent blood?” he asked.
“…”
“Good, it doesn’t seem like you mind.” he said.
And as he slowly reached for the blood, he suddenly stopped midway and turned his back to the entrance to this room.
“…somethings off, I smell a human nearby.” he said as he turned into his alert mode.
And as he walked closer to the entrance, all of a sudden, a fist suddenly punches straight to its wall and an arm grabs his neck.
*Boom!*
The wall crumbled bit by bit until finally, an open entrance was made. And outside this entrance, the sight of a young man was out there, holding tight on the mad mage’s neck.
“…”
***Shay’s POV***
****A few minutes back***
“…Hmm, looks like I have to sneak in to the castle.” I said as I stood at the back entrance of the castle that leads straight to the kitchen.
The moment I got into the area, a lot of the guards were already watching guard. I had to let my iron stead by tied into a tree somewhere a bit far from the castle so that he wouldn’t get spotted. By sneaking here for about 15 minutes, I finally got into the kitchen, and to my surprise, it was occupied by two maid who were working on preparing a meal.
Having to quickly use my skill to sneak, I was invisible to their sight.
And having to follow the guide provided by the All-Known book, I easily made way across the halls. The guide was like a small map that showed itself at the left bottom corner of my eye, it didn’t really bothered my movement, so it was good.
(AN: just like in the video games..)
Being a past thief, sneaking into a house or any building was second nature to me. It didn’t take long before I finally arrived to where the guide pointed me to.
“…This is weird.” because all it pointed me into was a wall with no doors.
I had to climb up the tower, but seeing as how I arrived at a dead end, it seemed strange to me.
“What is going on AK?” I asked.
[ANALYZING…ANALYSIS COMPLETE. IN FRONT OF YOU IS AN ILLUSION MADE BY THE COUNT OF PESTILENCE. IT IS MEANT TO PERSUADE YOU AND FOOL YOU INTO TURNING BACK AND FORGETTING YOUR REASON FOR COMING HERE. ONE REASON YOU WERE NOT AFFECTED BY ITS MAGIC IS BECAUSE OF TELLUS’S BLESSING. IF YOU WANT TO BREAK THE SPELL, SIMPLY BREAK THROUGH THE WALL WITH A HAND COVERED IN MANA BODY REINFORCEMENT. BUT THE MINUTE YOU BREAK THE SPELL, IT WILL ALERT PESTILUS. YOU HAVE TO ACT FAST ON ATTENDING TO THE DYING LIGHT MAGE.]
“…Hmm, is there anything I should look out for on the other side of this wall?” I asked.
[ANALYZING…ANALYSIS COMPLETE. CURRENTLY THERE IS ONE MAGE WHO IS IN CAHOOTS WITH THE COUNT, MEETING HIM AND FIGHTING HIM HEAD ON WILL ULTIMATELY PREVENT YOU FROM HELPING THE LIGHT MAGE IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU WANT TO CONFRONT THE MAGE AND SUBDUE HIM IMMEDIATELY, PLEASE HIT THIS SPOT IN UNDER THE COUNTDOWN.]
As the AK finished analyzing the situation, it showed me a target within the wall that I had to strike. And in that target, it had a timer that counted down starting from 14 seconds. It slowly started counting down and as it did, I started preparing myself to handle striking the wall.
Using the Mana Body Reinforcement, I strengthened my left arm.
5 seconds remained…
4 seconds…
3 seconds…
2 seconds…
1…
By the second the timer ended, I didn’t hesitate to strike through the wall.
*Boom!*
And as easy as it was, I broke through it like it was glass.
And to my surprise, I was able to snatch the neck of a person as well.
As the smoke started to clear, I was in handling of a neck that was owned by a ugly looking person.
“…Uhmm…are you the light mage?” I asked.
“W-what the F-”
“No! I am the light mage!” said the man that was locked in a cage.
“Oh, that makes more sense. But what’s up with this guy?” I asked.
“…He turned himself into a demon…the best course of handling him is to kill him.” said the man in the cage.
“…Really?”
“Yes.” said the man in the cage.
“…” having being doubtful of his words, I asked the All-known book.
And to its reply, it was similar. So I couldn’t complain all that much.
“Okay then.”
*Snap*
Although I was hesitant, I snapped the man’s neck and dropped him on the floor.
And with that said, I quickly made way to the light mage to assisted him.
“…Your as pale as a ghost…what happened to you?” I asked.
“…” but as I asked, Khali, remained silent.
“Khali?” having wondered why he was silent, I called to him.
“…Its weird but I want to ask, Who are you?” he said.
“I’m Shay Winston, me and the ten Imperial Dragons have been sent here to recover the princess and…if there was hope, you as well.”
“..Did you save the princess already?” he asked.
“No, right now, its more advantageous to free you than the Princess first.”
“Why? If you escape now with the princess, it will surely benefit us more.”
“We have to take the Demon first before anything else, if not, we might lose because of this demons nature and the Hearts Kingdom might fall to ruin.” I said as I grab hold of his caged and forcibly ripped it apart.
“…but still.” having doubts in his mind, he didn’t seem secure with the idea.
“Well, if your that worried, we can probably get to the princess next if you want.” I said as I tried to ease his worries.
“…that would work, thank you.” he said.
“Now then, how can I help in healing you? You look like your about to die any second now.” I asked.
“Hmm, seeing as how you were able to break through the wall of illusions made from the count of Pestilence’s dark magic, I can only assume that you yourself must be blessed with mana as well.” he said.
“Well, your not wrong about that.” I said.
“Good, first off, grab that bucket of blood from the corner over there and bring it to me.” he said as he pointed to the rusty bucket filled with blood.
“…Is…is this your blood?” I asked.
“Its horrible, I know. Mostly, the kind of blood that I want is one flowing inside of me…” he said, jokingly.
“..ah, haha, funny, but we don’t have a lot of time on our hands. If we waste anymore time, the
Demon might arrive any minute now.” I said worryingly.
“Sorry, your right. Please, grab the bucket and place me flat on the middle of this room.” as he said this, I carried him over to the center of the room and cleared away all the furniture that was in the way. Placing him down next to the bucket.
“Next, this procedure will require a lot of skill…forming a magic circle exactly like this one.” as he raised his finger, he showed me a quick glimpse into a circle that appeared on top of his finger.
“!?” I was surprised to see him show this type of skill.
“Please, as fast as you can, imitate this magic circle.” he said so pleadingly.
Luckily for him, I was an artist…a man involved in the life of art and imitation that was simply a process of creating a portrait.
The moment I caught glimpse of the magic circle, I was caught in its beauty…on how each light within its mark was so captivating, it would take an entire day for me to forget one single detail within the circle.
In that single moment of looking at the circle, I was able to memorize the details like the back of my hand.
“…I know it seems impossible, but seeing as how you are a mage, I know you have the capacity to create the magic circle.” he said.
He seems to think that I was a mage seeing as how I was able to break through the illusion spell. If I said I wasn’t otherwise, I might be doubted at this moment and doubt isn’t something I need right now.
So I kept quiet and quickly made way to draw the magic circle.
“Use my blood as the material…” as soon as he said this, he lost all strength in his finger as it falls to the ground like a limp.
“…you don’t have to worry, I got it.” as soon as I said it, I quickly made way and like a mad artist, I grew a fever of wanting to imitate that magic circle for its beauty.
As I draw and draw on the dirty floor, I was suddenly interrupted by a footstep down the halls.
“…Someone’s close by.” I said.
“W-what?”
“Should I go check?” I asked.
“N-no, if a guard appears, I can still take him down with my remaining magic, all you have to do on the other hand is focus on creating that magic circle.” he said tiringly as he sweated like a faucet.
“.…Okay.” having not stop on the occasion, I continued to draw and draw until two minutes later, I finally succeeded.
“Okay, I think I’m finish.” I said.
“W-what?” he looked surprised.
“What? what’s wrong?” I asked.
As I moved back, I was satisfied with the end result of my efforts on drawing this magic circle.
“…O-okay, if you say its finish, then we can move on to the next process.”
“And what’s that?” I asked.
“…” but he remained silent. He didn’t answer me as I asked.
“Khali?”
“…haa….haaa…..haaa….to think that you would snap my neck like that. What a bad man you are.” said that voice that came behind me.
It was breathing heavily.
“!?” and to my surprise, I turned around slowly…only to see that the man who I snapped his neck, was standing before me, looking ever so fresh.
“It is a great benefit to be a half-demon…you don’t die as easy as that of a weak feeble human.” he said.
“…run.” said Khali.
And as he said so, all of a sudden, a dark and ominous feeling came rushing over me. As if a predator was looking at me for my meat.
“…” having to look at the mad mage’s eye, I was eye to eye with his glaring view.
It was filled with blood-curling intent.
Unconscouisly, I gripped tight on my hand, ready to fight him.
And in return, he licked his lips as if he found a delicious meal.
Without warning, he then conjured a magic skill within his two hands, each forming a loop like disk.
“…RUN!!” shouted Khali.
But before I could, the demon threw his disk-like magic unto me and I unconsciously blocked with my two arms.shielding my face and stomach.
The moment the disk crashed unto me, an explosion was made that erupted not just the entire roof of the tower but also its walls.
With the clouds of dust covering the entire floor of the tower, it was hard to see what happened after.
Soon as the clouds of dust starts to clear off, the demon smirked and saw how much his power has risen since before being a man.
He was confident that he had eradicated the young man into a the same clouds of dust in the air.
He laughed.
“Hahahahahahha!! did you see that Khali!? I hav become more than a mage!! I have become a man stronger than anything else in the world!!!”
“.…” Khali was shocked to see this happen. He had a face of fear placed on him.
“hahahahahaha!!” The demon continued to laugh and laugh and laugh, until suddenly, a voice was heard.
“…What so fucking funny…you bastard!!” said a voice within the clouds of dust.
“!?” the demon stopped laughing and turned to look in front of him.
As out beyond the clouds of dust, stood a man who was as clean as a baby’s bottom.
He was standing unscathed by the Demon’s attack, and seeign it so, the demon was shaken to his core.
“H-how!?” he screamed.
But without saying anything else, the man dashed forward as quick as the sound of his step and immediately, he was able to grab hold of the demon’s neck yet again.
“Khk!?” the demon suffered pain as the man grab him by the throat, even tighter than before.
And with it, the man raised his hand up in the air and started beating the demon so forcely, that each strike to the face caused the tower to shake a little.
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
*Thud!*
The punching continued and continued and the demon didn’t even had time to plea for mercy.
It continued until finally the demon fell unconscious.
His face was distorted like a mashed potato…but something more redder and more gorish.
And seeing him not even move an inch, Shay stood up from his place and turned back to Khali with a satisfied smile.
“haaa….now that was refreshing.” he said.
“…” Khali only remained shocked and surprised.
To think that a man was able to overwhelm a demon in such a fashion…it wasn’t something he would normally see…but to see it face to face, it made him question who this man was in front of him.
“…W-who are you?” he asked.
“…What? Didn’t I already introduced myself? I’m Shay Winston, an upcoming farmer.” he said.
