- 29: On the way to the Hearts Kingdom
The day finally came when everything was finally settled for travel. Ordered by the Emperor, we will journey across the Dangers terrain known as the Flat Bioma.
As I stood by the wagon, tending to my stead.
I looked back and saw that all of the ten imperial dragons were ready as well. There, by the time that the sun was about to rise, I was called out to the emperor for one last detail.
“Sir Shay…please keep safe in this journey, the people of this empire relies on your success.”
“I’ll promise that I will succeed, your highness.”
“Hmm, may the fate of the flames guide all of you across the danger…”
“Thank you, your highness.”
And with that, we began our journey.
All in all, we were a group of 11 people.
Having to use two wagons on this journey, one being mine that carries half of the dragons and another that carried the other half as well as the equipment. We rode at a fast pace.
Josy himself did not join us back to the town since he still had to gain the reward for delivering Bruneheart to the Percivals. As it will take about a few days to process
Usually it would take about half a day of travelling to Desvey town, but seeing as how the king made it clear that we cut the travel time in half, we rode on in quite the pace.
Although it was bumpy, we rode and we didn’t stop for one bit.
Through the journey, we finally made it to Desvey town. Here as we entered the town, the first one to great us was the town chief.
We had to rest for about 30 minutes and had our carriages checked for damages during our ride.
“Any damages?” I asked one of the Imperial Dragons.
“No, there doesn’t seem to be any.” said Bedever as he was the one who checked the condition of the second wagon.
“Okay, we’ll move on to the Great Eden Wall then.” without stopping for any, we rode ourselves to the Great Eden Wall, but most seemingly, The Town Chief and a couple of other townsfolk joined us on our way there.
As we finally made it to the gate of the Eden wall, All of the Imperial Dragons aside from Genevieve Whitney, the Dragon saint went and approached the gate.
This was the first hurdle that we had to handle. By making quick work of the gate, we had the nine Imperial dragons handle the opening of the gate. Me and the Dragon saint simply sat back and watched as they handled the work
I tried to offer help as well but they inclined that I simply watch since I was going to be the one to manage the carriage when we start to ride.
“…It has been a long time since I’ve visited this place again.” said Alexander as a soft smile appeared out on his face.
“Lets get started then” said Orion as he grabs hold of the wood on the gate.
” The Gate opens to our direction so find some way to grab hold on the gate, either use a dagger or a hook, just anything that you can place your hand on to lock on the the wood.” Said Bedever as he searches around and picks his position.
“Ah, we can help with that.” said the town chief as he introduces a thick rope with a hook at the end.
While everyone was trying to install the hook, Genevieve came and spoke to me.
“How did you pass through this gate, Sir Shay? Did Shirley assisted you on opening it?” asked Geneveive as she stood close by me.
“No, it was hard but I managed to open it because I was at the other end of the gate. Pushing it was heavy but I managed using magic.” I answered.
“Hmm? Did you use a mana reinforcement skill?” she asked.
“Y-yeah, its called a Mana Reinforced Body.”
“Hmm…interesting. Can you show me this skill?” she ask.
“Um, sure I don’t mind but maybe after we get the gates open first.” I said.
As everyone got hold of the rope that was connected to the door, everyone got a place grab the rope and waited for the signal to start pulling.
“Okay Everyone, on my mark….1…2…3…PULL!!”
With everyone’s cooperation, the gate was slowly opening up and seconds later, it was big enough for the wagons to pass through.
“…haa…haaa….haa…” with the tired scene of the people, they fell to their knees and rested as th scene of the flat bioma was out for them to stare at.
“Hmm, it has been a long time since I saw such a majestic scene.” said the town chief.
“How are we going to close back?” I asked.
“Ah, don’t worry about that. We will be closing it back again after a few moments of rest. Please leave it to us.” said the town chief.
“I see, well good luck with that and also, thank you for assisting us on our mission.” having given my thanks, me and the dragons passed through the gate and started making our way to the hearts kingdom.
It’ll take three days but seeing our plans, we decided to hasten it and make it there by two and a half days to plan for the situation of entering the kingdom. And the one who can give that answer is none other than Shirley herself who escaped the kingdom.
Passing through the flat fields of this territory, we went in the same passive path that no animals came to interfere in.
***
As the sun was about to set, we decided to stop on our tracks and rest. The two horses that carried the wagon that I didn’t owned were seemingly more exhausted than my own stead. We had to take account on their condition as well.
With the fire ready and the barrier being put up, everyone was settled inside the barrier. And although the sun was just setting down, already a group of Grizzly lions came and watched as our own group looked back at them.
“Hmm, so this is what being up close to these monsters looks like.” said Tyson as he curiously puts his hand against the barrier’s end.
“Be careful Tyson, Grizzly Lions are a ferocious bunch. We don’t want them thinking that we’re helpless or anything.” said Orion as he warns his little brother.
“…Do you think you can take one on?” asked Alexander as he looks to Louis who was tending to the fire.
“…Maybe I can take on three…but a dozen at the same time is just suicide.” he said as he tends to the pot that he was cooking in silence.
“How about you Sir Shay?” asked Alexander as he looked to me with a curious look.
“…I don’t know. I never actually got to take one down before, but ultimately, I don’t want to test myself in that kind of situation.” I said.
“You might be right. Its hard to think that my sister actually was able to experience this up close right before I could…how was she when she saw these beast upfront? Was she scared?” Asked Alexander as he wonders about the experience that her sister went through.
“Not sure, I think that she didn’t really think too much about these things. By the time I met her, it was already sun down and Shirley was really injured back then…they probably fought a few before they could find me by the road.” I said.
“!?…Is this true Shirley?” asked Alexander as he looks to Shirley with a furrowed look of worry.
“…Five, I fend off five while trying save miss Serena.” said Shirley as she looks leans back on one of the wagons.
“…Thank you Shirley, you’ve done a great job protecting my sister. I will honor you and commend your works to my father.” said Alexander.
“…” Shirley went back and simply laid by the wagon in a quiet somber.
Meanwhile, a man in complete black attire that was similar to that of a ninja was standing on top of a tree, scanning the area for an other dangers that might pop up.
Martin Canada who was eyeing across the dark night felt a disturbance in the wind. He could hear a rustling sound on one of the trees…and soon after, a flock of birds came bursting out of this tree and into the front of the shining moon in the sky.
“.…” he wondered what made the birds move on such a night…but thinking that it might have been a simple coincidence or a monster like a grizzly lion passing through, it must have been nothing.
So he drops from the tree and walked up to check on the food.
“…Is the food ready?” he asked.
“Almost, just bring in the rest of the plates and I’ll start serving.” said Louis.
For some reason, for him to look like an edgy teen who looks like he would adore Punk Metal, I was surprised to see that he was the one who could cook out of all the groups. And being curious of his character, I went and approached him.
“…What are you making?” I asked.
“We didn’t bring a lot of ingredients, but I made a simple stew out of lamb meat and a set of a couple of vegetables. I made a lot to cover for tomorrows journey so that we’ll eat while we ride.” he said.
“…I think the horses wouldn’t keep up to tomorrows run if we keep overworking them like this.” I said as I look back to the resting horses.
“Hmm, your right. But we need to prioritize the time that we have to manage in getting there as fast as we can before the Imperial Army reaches the kingdom first.” said Bedever as he sat next to me with a plate on his hands.
“Adding the time that we’ve spent in riding here, the Army has probably already arrived at a village managed by the hearts kingdom. The hearts kingdom probably knows already that the army came for the princess, by then its safe to assume that the heart kingdom’s focus would all be on the army and not be expecting us.” said Orion.
“That’s the problem though, if the Army was found out by the hearts kingdom, they’ll question the fact on how it was even possible for them know that the princess was captured. They’ll suspect that information has been passed through to the Empire, so that would also mean that they might suspect that maybe lady Serena and Shirley had the small chance to pass through the Flat Bioma. Their the only people to have given us this information. So the Kingdom might suspect that there was a way to traverse the Bioma and that maybe a chance will occur that they would be suspecting us to arrive.” said Orion.
“…Maybe, but that suspicion will only work if they could see us coming. We might be able to avoid their eyes if we pass through a passage. So Shirley, where did you and my sister escape to?” said Alexander.
“We escaped pass the gates that were made by the hearts kingdom. We broke through then, but now it might have been fixed since that gate protects the kingdom against the dangers of the flat bioma. I don’t think that there’s any place that we can pass other than the gate itself.” said Shirley.
“…that’s a problem then.” said Alexander as he looked bothered.
Everyone else was also bothered by this fact. Knowing that there was no other way to pass through the kingdom’s walls that protects them from the Flat Bioma, they were bothered by the question on how they should pass through the walls quietly.
“Should we just jump over the walls like we originally planned?” asked Genevieve.
“We can’t know for sure yet. If there’s going to be a lot of eyes over the other side of the walls, we might reconsider on jumping over it.” said Orion.
“How about through it? Cutting through would be best and silent.” I said.
“…and how do you propose we do that? The man-made walls at the hearts kingdom is half the size of the walls over at the Great Eden Wall and you know just how thick those trees are over the great eden walls.” said Tyson.
“Are you telling us that you also have an artifact that’s capable of such thing!?” asked Orion as he glanced with anticipation.
“N-no, nothing like that. Sorry…” I apologized.
“Hmm, Well, either way. We’ll only be able to think of this after we see the situation at the their walls. For now, we have to rest and move out early in the morning. ” said Alexander.
With that said, everyone ate and soon after, they went too sleep.
One by one, they took places watching over the camp in this night.
****
It was around midnight…
The sun was nowhere to be seen and the stars were as clear as anything anyone could gaze upon. Right now, it was Tyson who was looking over the cam as he stood silently looking at the campfire.
As he continued to watch over the flames, he suddenly felt the urge to want to take a turn sleeping…
He went and tried to call out to his brother that was sleeping on the wagon, but he fell asleep on his place before he could even get up.
Although it felt unnatural, this unwavering feeling to want to sleep took over is body and he felt as if it didn’t matter in th least.
That night, everyone was asleep…
No one to look out for and no one to warn if an enemy was near.
All except for one man who suddenly heard a roar out in the deep forest.
“…” Shay was simply in his wagon sleeping, but hearing a roar in the woods, made his awake.
Although he heard it, he was doubting himself in the thought that maybe it was just the wind’s blow against the forest. But he heard it again.
*ROOOOARRR!!!!!*
A much louder roar appeared and this called him to stand up from his rest.
“…What was that?” when he got off the wagon, he saw that the rest of the imperial dragons were still sleeping.
“…” he wondered why they could not hear that roar, and thought that waking them up on their sleep to ask them would assure his curiosity. But before he could take another step forward, he suddenly felt this unnerving pressure.
“!?” he quickly turned his head to where this presence came from and as he did, he saw the gaze of a beast that had the eyes of a blue star.
“…” he’s show of fear was clear as the dripping of his sweat came down from his forehead.
A monster that was ten times bigger than that of a grizzly lion simply watched him.
It was just like a lion…but its blue eyes and completely white fur and its ginormous size simply differentiated its existence from those animals.
{You must be the one who has been living in my domain for the past few days…}
It spoke…Shay could hear his words coming into his head despite his closed mouth.
“W-who are you?” asked Shay as he stood in complete fear.
{…I am the king of this land, the ruler who bends balance into his own will and the will of others…the king of this jungle…I am Mkuu.}
“…Mkuu?”
{It has been decades since humans had the patience to traverse in my lands…tell me, what is your reason for trespassing?}
“…W-we came here on a mission. To traverse to another kingdom on the opposite end of this path.” he said.
{…What do you have to offer for you to grant my permission?”
“O-offer!?”
{Offer a gift of gratitude or be crushed by my prowess.} he said in a calm tone.
“W-what is it that you want to receive my king?” he asked in the desperation of the moment. Surely it can be seen that in front of him, a monster that caliber is simply a monster that can easily destroy them.
{That is by your choice…}
Having been put into a spot, he turned to the All-Known Book.
And in result, it gave its answer.
[THE KING OF THE JUNGLE ONLY WANTS ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY…THE GIFT OF PURE ENERGY. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU GIFT HIM YOUR MANA. SEEING HIS SIZE, ALL OF YOUR MANA WILL SUFFICE.]
“Eh?…are you serious? And how am I suppose to give my mana to him?” he asked.
[STATE THAT YOU WILL GIVE HIM YOUR ENERGY AND IN RETURN, HE WILL HANDLE THE REST. JUST SIMPLY REST YOUR HAND ON HIS NOSE.]
“o-Okay Then…”
Having no other choice to make, Shay simply followed the orders given by the book.
“…I-I offer you my Energy, King of the Jungle.” he said in a shaking voice.
{Very well.}
Having tapped his paws on the ground, the barrier like that of a simple glass cup, and out the king moved his head to have Shay offer his hand.
As he slowly leaned over his hand, the Lion King began the process of absorbing his energy.
“!!” the moment the king started the process, Shay felt a shallow pain over his hand. It was like he was being sucked out like a small milk cartoon at a canteen. It was bearable, but he felt very woozy after wards.
*cough* *cough*
Coughing up in a sickly manner, he turned to the king of the jungle and looked anxious by the minute.
{You have given me enough, so you may pass.} said the King as he turned his back and started walking away, leaving Shay dried up like a prune.
{Until we meet again.}
The barrier was suddenly made up again into its perfect condition and Shay couldn’t help but collapse under the weight of the pressure. He couldn’t help but wonder if the king might appear again the next night.
But for now, he rest…
