- 28: Compliments of a Painter
The painting…yes the painting…it no longer was the same with the original. It was my own very expression of the lady who stood between the sun and the sea…
Although the art style was completely different with a more realistic approach, the way the sun was up and about but had the reflection of its very own sanctimoniousness, where its light reflects the very surface of the sea, and how the clouds separate and signified the distance of of both entities of nature, the lady simply stood with a solemn and envious look to the beauty before her.
It wasn’t about the lady anymore, but instead it was about the scene of a lady who say the beauty of such existence. The existence of two worlds where she herself could not entertain…
But just like the first painting, it was as sad as it could be…
All the same, the lady simply wanted something from both paintings…
“…incredible.” words of astonishment came from the Duke.
With how the Duke had not incorporated the sun into his paintings, it lacked the visual stimulation of a bright day…it was as dreary as the everyday life of rainy city in London…
As not only did I presented such skill in my pace in the art, I showed a painting with such detail… it made me wonder…
How was I able to do such a thing? How was I able to paint it as such speed?
The only answer that came before me was the skill I had called the blessing of the craft.
With how this blessing affected a lot of the dexterity in my past skills as a human of earth, from carving to sketching and to even painting, I have been truly upgraded.
Although my skill and expressions in the art remained, I was surprised to see that my greed towards finishing the work at such a pace, completely overwhelmed me.
The skill boosted my work time as well as my very personality towards an obsession…
In the moment that I was painting….I felt my heart race and my body ache….but my obsession simply won over me and it resulted in the very painting that was on the canvass..
It showed in my obsession towards painting a simple scene of a lady looking over an ocean.
“…I…I am very sorry with how I acted.” I apologized
“Sorry? Why are you sorry?” said the Duke as he held on to the canvass y his two hands.
“…I…I acted like a madman…” embarrassed by what I just did, I wanted to bury myself in a grave.
“You have nothing to apologize for…because for a master painter like yourself, you have let me witness the truthfulness of art itself.” his hand shakes as he holds on to the painting unto his face, blocking his very expression with the canvass.
“Never have I ever seen such a gallant sight of the ocean…of my wife…” he turned away from the canvass and unto the direction of his wife with a soft smile on his face. And there, she was seen walking back to our direction, wondering why her husband was looking soft on her way.
“Ah! Sorry about this…yes, yes I can’t forget, your business towards selling your plants, I will take them.” he said.
“Thank you.” and I joyful of his answer.
“Father…” but Serena wanted to let her father know about the irregularity of the plant itself.
“…Its okay Serena, I understand that you want to focus on that matter, but please take consideration on the thoughts of our guest.” said his father.
“…Yes father.”
It seems as though the Duke as respected the fact that I am connected to this sort of irregularity. But in a world of different types of people, maybe the Duke was the same as the Emperor…he respects the privacy of some people.
As he got a look at the Hail-Mary plants, he turned to me and even more intrigued.
“…Mr. Shay, not once in my life have I ever seen this happen to a Hail-Mary plant. I can only assume that you have something to do with this.”
“…I do.” I answered truthfully.
“…Why did you tell the truth? If you lied, I wouldn’t have bothered to care any longer.” he asked.
“From one artist to another I respect you Sir Duke, and as a man, I greatly respect your principles in respecting a man’s life…so in return, I told you the truth.” I said.
“Hmm, I see…thank you for the honesty, Mr. Shay.”
“Your welcome.”
“…if you do plan on presenting your skills unto us in the future, I would like nothing more than to accept your offer with open arms.”
“Thank you Sir Duke…but at the moment, I can’t do anything to improve your advancements in the fields of Medicine. My life is still starting.”
“Your life?”
“I’m planning on becoming a farmer…being one needs complete focus, that was why I needed the money. I needed to buy some seeds.”
“Ahh, I see. Very well then. Then I hope that you may succeed in this path and may we come to cross each other again and paint as companions…”
“that would be nice…thank you Duke.”
As I gave my thanks, it came to a surprise that a Lady with white hair suddenly appeared and walked up next to the Duke. It was his wife.
“Welcome back, darling.”
“Arah, and who might you be?” she asked.
With her white hair and blue eyes, she was quite a eye catching person. Like a blue diamond found in snow, the woman before me simply was a gem unlike any other. And with how she looked, she was very similar to Serena herself, sort of like a older version with white hair. It was clear to see that she was her mother.
“Mother, he’s the one who I talked to you about. My benefactor.” said Serena. As she explained, the her mother went and pulled out a pair of glasses from her purse, there, she began to put them on.
“Ah yes, the travelling coachman from the wicked borders of the Flat Bioma…I’ve heard of you.”
“Its nice to meet you, Madam.”
“Hmm, it is nice to meet you too. My name is Estella Modelva” her soft smile paired with her round glasses made her out to be a soft and gentle type.
“I’ve heard that you came and presented an Artifact to the Emperor. One that might help in retrieving the princess.” said the Estella.
“Ah, yes I did.” I said.
“I couldn’t see how it was presented but I heard that it was similar to how mages created magic shields. They said that it was a barrier, an item that can last all night and protects you with the strength to block a beast’s claws…somewhat like a grizzly lion.” said the Estella.
“Yes it was…”
“It must have been quite an artifact then…Hmm?” as she was conversing, she noticed that by her husband’s hand, a piece of artwork was made. One that was not in the same work in the hands of her husband.
“Who painted this?” she asked.
“Ah, he did mother.”
“You did? And at such a short amount of time? Are you sure?”
“…Yes my love. I’ve seen him work with my own eyes, he is truly a talent behind the brushes.”
“I see, you’re an artist as well.”
“Thank you madam.”
As we conversed, time passed by and the sun was about to set…and seeing this, we had to go back to the palace. I’ve been paid as I gave the plants to the Modelva family and with it, I can finally buy a set of seeds to plant…but not right now.
Preparing for a rescue takes precedence. The seeds will have to wait.
Riding to the Empire, I’ve met a lot of people…
From encountering a lady and her knight in a dangerous forest, to a blacksmith and his ambition to create a long lost magic sword, to a king and his request to save his daughter from a demon out in an opposing kingdom, to presenting the sword that wielded flames and finding a fate that goes beyond simply becoming a farmer…and to meet a painter who made me feel emotional to a point that i shedded some tears…
A lot of things have happened…
And not once have I ever felt so free with meeting these people…
It was fun…
It was…an adventure…
And I’ll continue on this adventure…
