How to Create a Farm with the All-Known Fantasy Book - 26: Catch the Fear
Fear. One of the things that humanity always has a severe notion to avoid…
On earth, fear has never been a changing aspect of a man’s experience. A man will always come in contact with fear…a man will never escape fear because fear was eternal in every existence. It didn’t only apply on a man’s being, but also with animals…all beings with life experience fear, where in nature, prey is simply fearing the predator. Even on Astra, fear existed.
From a scene found on a horror or to an experience of pure anxiety…and to even the sense of meeting a life or death scenario…fear is always in the corner of a man’s soul, waiting when the moment is just right. And when a man comes to meet his fears, each man comes with a different experience altogether in his own fear.
One example being as when a moment where a man is meet with a situation where he knows he was going to die before the second even passes, his only action to take was to accept his death. His mind would turn off and his muscles would relax….because he knew death was unavoidable.
Like in wars, when a man is meet with a bullet…he feels that he is going to die, he knows that he is going to die…and ultimately, death awaits this man in his untimely manner.
A man cannot simply react faster than the speed of a bullet…not because he was slow in his reaction, in fact research suggest that if a man is trained enough, he has the ability to catch a bullet with the assist of a thick glove…the only thing that kills a man with a bullet was his fear of the bullet’s function to kill him. A man who knows or don’t know the pain of a bullet simply will fear it…but a man who fears no bullet can simply avoid it or catch it face to face…
Once in the moment of war, there was a saying that comes a time when a man experiences a sense of adrenaline so high and so fierce, he, as if in wonder of this moment…sees the bullet as if it was moving at the speed of a snail. His eyes could simply follow the flow of the bullet.
He could see a bullet fly because of this wonder…because of the adrenaline that came of fear
A man who was living in the moment to see the bullet fly continues to live in such a heinous environment…he can only see it because of both his fear and adrenaline…
This experience had no title…but it was true to their experience.
For Shay who has lived under the environment where he would be shot in his sleep for the crimes that he did, he himself has lived a life of constant war against all enemies that he has made.
He knows the feeling of having to watch as a bullet passes by him and through him…he knows the pain of a bullet.
And because of that, a drive within him knows that he must survive if it happens again. Anything…anything must be sacrificed all for the sake of his survival…
He was thief…
And a thief was greedy by all accounts…
But most of the times, his greed in the most dangerous moments, sparks fear within him…and this fear can only ever overwhelm him to a point that he wants to be greedier than ever before.
In his greed to survive…his greed to simply want to dodge a bullet…his greed to want to catch it…everything comes from his greed…his greed alone made him survive as a thief.
Shay was a greedy man…
So when he saw an arrow fly to him in such an inconspicuous timing, his greed to simply catch the arrow builds up within him…and so, like a madman, with a mad body, Shay simply lets the arrow intersect with his hand in a simple instinct to survive.
And compared to a bullet, the arrow was slower than anything he had experience that brought out his greedy fear.
A greedy catch if one can say…
*THUD*
In a quick second, Shay was standing with his eyes wide open…and the arrow between his fingers.
“Kyah!?” Elaine who saw this happen, shrieks in shock.
“…” but Serena who did not see it, not until the last second of when the arrow was held by Shay, she was speechless. She knew the context of what just happened…but even still, her mind was shocked to find Shay catch an arrow.
Yet despite this moment, one single arrow was not enough…because right after, two more came flying from the window…and without hesitation, Shay went and intercepted those arrows in ease by hand.
*~Swoosh~* *Catch!*
*~Swoosh~* *Catch!*
“…” it all came from one direction, the opened window…and because of this, Shay stared at this window with the intent to figure out who fired this arrow.
And at the last second, he saw a man in black jump off from the roof of the mansion. He did not hesitate to exit the greenhouse at such haste and made his way to the presumed location where the suspect jumped off from.
But when he came to the spot, he was met with no evidence of a single person in sight.
“…” looking all over, he could not find a single piece of clue left behind of the chance did came…but at the edge of the roof of the building, he saw a bent and cracked tile piece of the roof.
‘…It seems as though someone did fire the arrow.’ this assumption lead him to think of the chances that he was in danger.
As he stared at the three arrows in his hand, he could only sigh in relief that his instinct worked.
“…Shay!” and calling out to him, Serena followed by and soon caught him looking around by the side of the mansion.
“…Lets go back. Its not safe to be out in the open like this.” said Shay in a cautious tone as he grabbed her shoulder and lead her back to the greenhouse.
“W-what was that?” asked Serena, worried over the fact that someone tried to kill them.
“…I don’t know, but maybe Madam Elaine has an explanation for this.”
When they walk back inside the greenhouse, Madam Elaine was seen having a hard time breathing from the recent attack. It was clear to see that she was a delicate person…and they need to be careful of her health.
There, when she turned to look at Shay, her reaction changed to a serious type. She seemed to know what was going on with this whole incident enough…but that might only be true if she did knew what was happening.
“…Mr. Shay…Your fate has started. The hunt for your head has begun.” said Elaine.
“…What does that mean? Explain to me what happened Mr. Shay? Why were you attacked!?” asked Shay.
“…Like I said before, you need a helping hand to survive.” said Elaine
“Why? Who was the one who shot at me?” asked Shay as he stood rather cautious of his surroundings.
“…It can be explained with the involvement of a certain enemy who I do not know the name of.”
“…And how are you so sure about this?” asked Serena.
“…During my time searching for my husband and for the Goddess Tellus, the only clue I came to receive gave hints of her existence as well as her enemy…it was said to be the “Death that Rots the World”…I can only assume that this was a God that goes against Tellus.”
“Going against a goddess of life?” asked Serena.
“The Gods were believed to fight against one another in conflict of their existence…they would wage wars and sometimes others would simply fight head on…this was once told from a book of the past…yet now, no wars were waged and instead in their own religious prospects, the followers who worship certain Gods will do anything they can to simply obey the words of their God…I can only assume that this “Death” is someone who is worshiped by some dangerous occult..and if that is right, it might explain why Vendigo had to leave…and why you were targeted.”
“Do you have any proof of this?” asked Shay.
“…No, but years of study and investigating lead me to believe that I’m 55% right at something…its not a speculation I can just throw away…”
“That isn’t enough to
While the two were looking at each other in conflict of how Elaine did not tell this to her son, Shay took the chance to ask the All-Known book about the truth behind Elaine’s words.
“…Is everything she said true?” asked Shay in a quiet voice.
[ANALYZING…ANALYSIS COMPLETE. ABOUT 89% OF HER WORDS WERE TRUE…THE GOD THAT IS AGAINST THE GODDESS TELLUS IS NONE OTHER THAN THE GOD OF CORRUPTION. NAMELY, THE GOD CALLED RAPTURE. HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF ALL THINGS.]
[RAPTURE IS AGAINST THE EXISTENCE OF TELLUS AS THIS GOD PLANS TO TAKE OVER THE PHYSICAL WORLD OF ASTRA. THEIR RIVALRY HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE THE DAWN OF THE CREATION OF ASTRA, AND WITH THE TWO EXISTENCE OF SUCH GODS. BOTH LIFE AND DEATH. ONE TRIES TO MAKE BALANCE WITH ALL THINGS…WHILE THE OTHER IS IN THE CONCEPT OF TAKING EVERYTHING FOR HIS OWN VOLITION.]
[YOUR FATE CONNECTING TO THIS SAID GUARDIAN ROLE IS STILL NOT SET. BUT YOU HAVE THE HIGHEST CHANCE OF HEARING THE VOICE OF TELLUS IN DUE TIME…UNTIL THEN, LIVE YOUR LIFE.]
Looking back at Elaine, Shay wondered why Elaine herself could not handle the enemies. With the backing of the entire Percival household, it would be easy to simply have them go under her orders. This would have easily been dealt with if that was the case. But instead, she suggested that another party gets involve. That party being Serena and the Modelva Household.
“Madam Elaine, why did you suggest that I would need the help of the Modelva house? Why can’t you help me instead? Why not your entire household if you will.” asked Shay.
“…The troubling thing about this is that I don’t have power over the household anymore…everything comes in the decision of my son. But his priority should not be in the involvement of such a fate…I cannot let him be involve in the world that took his father away.”
“…”
“But you are a part of that fate…you have the chance that will bring back my husband…only you and no one else…”
“…” looking at the pleading eyes of the old woman, it was clear to Shay how determined she was despite how powerless she was now.
But Shay could not promise anything to her. He could not accept it so easily because of the uncertainty of this road. But he is determined enough to simply remember what she said…and if this certain fate does end up giving him an advantage in life…then there might be no harm in trying to at least lower the worries of the madam.
“…I can’t promise you that I’ll be the one to help you find your husband, but I can at least take it to heart and help if the chance arises. But know that despite the fact that I’m being hunted right now, this has nothing to do with you…I don’t want to be involve in something so dangerous like being hunted down but knowing what happened, I don’t have any other choice.”
Stating that he doesn’t want help, not from Elaine or from Serena meant that he will handle this on his own…his eyes spoke of no fear in that promise, but he was still scared of the chance that he was going to be killed. But nonetheless, him having the powers of the blessing of the soil was the start of his path in being a farmer, and having this blessing simply involved a much bigger issue…an issue involving the occult.
Its not their problem to take in…its his.
So if the chance does come and he might meet the people who are after him…the only thing he could do by then is survive.
He knows this as it was the very foundation of his very life. Surviving even in the easiest times and surviving in the harshest…he was a man who had a chance at living both worlds.
And with that, he simply turned his back away from them and made his way out of the greenhouse. By then, he had nothing else to do in the Percival household, so he planned to go back to the Imperial Palace along with Josy who was done with his presentation on Bruneheart.
With the two of them making their way back, before they could exit the entire territory, they were meet with a lady who stood by the road. Lady Serena who simply stared at Shay…wit her expressions of concern, she stood in front of the iron Stead and simply made her stance.
“Mr. Shay…I see that you are already planning to go back, butI haven’t repaid you yet for what you’ve done for me…for the Empire.” she said.
“…and maybe you don’t have to. I only did what a typical person would do when they needed my help. But granted, I wouldn’t help just anyone simply because they need help.” to Shay, it seems as though he really did not need any sort of reward for accompanying Serena back to the empire. A lot of time has passed since then and knowing so, he felt bothered by the idea of entering another house of a noble. It felt like a burden if anything, so he had to decline her request.
“I can’t let that happen. Not with my pride as a noble of the Modelva House.”
“…Fine, then what do you want me to do then?”
Troubled by the gift he had in his hands, and the potential of a great advancement in medicine, Serena saw an opportunity before her. She can’t just let him walk away now knowing what she knew herself.
“Come to our house and let me repay you.”
“…No, I can’t.” in his mind, he simply felt like being used or will be used if he comes to visit her house. Entering another noble’s house will simply let himself be introduced to a world heavier than his own plan to simply be a farmer. it was like meeting a politician you have no information on and because of this, you would naturally have doubts about it…
“…I will simply offer you my gratitude, nothing else….and if you want, I can take the hail-mary plants off your hands, that way, you don’t have to worry about wasting your time selling them across the empire.”
“…Really?” although he doubted her words, but knowing her enough to know that she was a good person, Shay was troubled by the two forms of offers.
“yes, I’d be honored to help my benefactor.”
“…Being called a benefactor is a bit much though, but okay. I guess I’ll accept your offer after all.”
Although it was a bit forced, Shay could not simply throw away the offer that Lady Serena gave him. But still in his heart, he worries for the fact that maybe this is more risky than anything. He already fears high authorities and now he plans on going to visit another noble’s house…it just seems like he was digging himself into a deeper pit.
