How to Create a Farm with the All-Known Fantasy Book - 23: A Burning Choice
With the demonstration over, a lot of the nobles came to greet Josy in the hopes of getting their own piece of Magic sword, but to their surprise, Josy was not accepting their offers yet. He explained that he had to rest for a while since it took a lot out of him simply to make this one single weapon.
Still, he promised that after he has rested, he will proceed on making another set of a Magic Sword. But because of what he said, It meant that only one sword was available for commission. With that, he manipulated the game by letting them talk themselves through by betting who was the most willing to purchase this order.
They bid and bid and bid until finally, it came to one victor of the most richest person there was in the room. That being Lady Serena herself who came with the full permission to have access with the Meldova Riches.
Everyone else left very dejected but still, they had hopes in their hearts to see to it that one day they too would own their very own Magic Sword.
With Everyone else leaving the Sparring House, all that was left was the Percival Family and Lady Serena herself who wanted to speak to me about her paying me back.
Tyson Percival, Orion Percival, Sheila Percival and the Patriarch, George Percival all stood in the ring with this feeling of anticipation in the room.
Only one thought was being made in the room, and that was…Who was going to be the one to wield the sword itself.
“…Before we decide, it is important to note that out of all of us, I am most definitely the one to use it in battle.” said George.
“”Ehh!?”” the rest complained.
“Obviously not! Most of the time, your not even in the battlefield anymore. Your just in your office all the time, handling the stupid paper work. Its supposed to be me!” said Tyson.
“And what makes you say that!? The most talented person to wield the sword should be the one to carry it! And that’s a fact!” said Sheila.
“And that should be you!? Um, hello? Who here is a part of the Imperial Dragons, raise their hand.” said Tyson as he mockingly raised his own hand in pride.
“Khk! Just because I wasn’t old enough to join the Imperial Dragons doesn’t make me any less talented than your stupid ass!” said Sheila.
“Oh really!? you wanna go you stupid Gorilla!?” shouted Tyson.
“Bring it on you Ogre!” and with that, the two fought like a couple of stupid siblings, rolling around and out to win a item they both liked.
“…” the eldest brother on the other hand simply stood their and sighed as he watched his siblings act immaturely. Their, he simply turned away and looked to me instead.
“Say, how did you do it? How did you handle the sword’s fire?” he asked me.
“…What do you mean?” I asked back.
“Weren’t you scared of being burned by its flames?”
“Hmm, at first I did, but when I saw the sword itself while it was unsheathed, I felt like I wasn’t going to burn. I might sound crazy, but I felt the sword talking to me…” I said, trying to remember back to when I was demonstrating the show of the sword.
“…so I was right. You called this sword Bruneheart, am I right?” Asked George as he turned to Josy with a serious expression.
“…that is his name.” answered Josy.
“I see, it may sound absurd, but the one who can only wield the sword is someone who is accepted by the sword. In other words, this magic sword has an Ego.” answered George.
“And how would you know that?” asked Josy.
“I know because it is the same type of sword as my Father’s.”
“Vendigo’s sword was a Magic sword!?” Josy, surprised by what he just heard, turned to george with prying gazes.
“…No, it was a normal sword, it didn’t contain any special type of attribute like fire or any other element. But it was alive…it had a voice.” said George.
“…Is that true father?” asked Orion as he looked to his father with a curious gaze.
“It is. Back when he was still here, he had never put down his sword for anything other than for when he sleeps. One day, I asked him why he always carried his sword, and he answered that his sword was special. I was still a child back then and through to my curiosity, I held the sword without his permission when he was asleep.”
“…And what happened?” asked Orion.
“…The sword spoke in my mind. Its voice was like that of a raspy old man…someone who seems like a good drinking partner.”
“Did it speak to you with a voice?” I asked as I looked rather intrigued by his words.
“…it spoke through my thoughts. Communicating as if he was alarmed that a new hand was able to touch him. After that, it took me a minute before my father found out and he warned me not to ever speak to it again. Mother also knew of this, and both of us kept this to our hearts. And although it was never meant to be a secret, I always pondered myself since the day he left that maybe a part of why left was because of that sword…it bothers even to this day.” he said as his eyes furrowed in guilt and regret.
“…And now that we brought you back the sword handle, were you able to speak to it?” I asked.
“…Sadly no, the voice never came and the feeling when I came to touch it once again was different compared to before…it was as if it had lost its life.” he spoke.
“…” I only gaze at his reaction, saddened by me bringing back the sword hilt, feeling worthless to its end.
“Compared to my father’s sword, Bruneheart is still but a newborn. My father had carried his sword since his childhood, and as he aged, so did the sword…if we compare the situation of both swords, in time, Bruneheart will have its own voice.” he said.
“…For now, we will decide who will be able to wield Bruneheart as he is in his newborn state. Even if it is a child, know that it has an Ego to choose who he seems fit. Just like when Shay holds the sword, he was not burned, instead he was accepted by the sword. And I’ll leave this sword’s fate to you three.” as he spoke, he turned to look at his three children who stood at the ring.
“…” Tyson stood with sweat nervously dripping down from his face. With the warning brought upon by his father, and the show of power from Shay’s demonstration, he and his siblings knew just how delicate, how powerful and how serious this event was for them.
“…Be careful on who will first decide to grab the sword, if Bruneheart decides that you are unfit, then you will suffer a major burn. With your current reflexes, you might just be fast enough to let go before you get attacked, but still, be careful.” warned Josy as he looks to the three, wondering who was the most fit to wield the sword.
“I don’t really know the logic behind how the sword chooses, do you?” I asked as I turned to Josy.
“Hmm, I don’t know either. We just have to hope that this doesn’t turn bad..if anything, we have to prepare ourselves for the worse to come.” he said.
“Hmm, I do have something to help with injuries, I’ll go get it in the wagon.” I said as I made my way back to get the hail-mary plants.
“Ah, Shay, Where are you going?” asked Lady Serena as she notice me exiting the Sparring house.
“I”m getting something from the wagon, I’ll be right back.” I answered.
“Oh I see, okay Hurry back, I still have something to speak to you about.” she said
As I left for about ten minutes, just as I was about to return, from a distance of the sparring house, I saw an explosion of fire that came from its window.
*BOOM*
“!?” hearing this happen, I quickly made way, rushing on with my stead. And getting off with the barrel that contained the healing plant.
*Thud!* “…What happened?!” I screamed as I bursted through the door in worry.
“…!?”
But all I saw in front of me was the scene of Orion gently holding on to the sword with a nervous expression. All eyes were on him and but out of it all, Sheila and Tyson on the other hand were seen with an injured third degree burns on their arms that also affected their clothing.
“Tsk.” I quickly dropped the barrel down and pulled out four leaves of Hail-Mary plants. Rushing to their direction, I had to apply it fast.
“W-what are you doing?” asked Tyson as he was seen me holding on to a piece of nothing on my hand as I tried to hold it against his burned mark. Knowing that the properties of the plant was to blend in the surroundings and turning invisible, Tyson was only right to react that I was touching his burned mark. But just as he was about to push me away, he felt his arm healing at a fast rate.
“.…Huh?” and seeing this, he turned to me with a puzzled look.
“Try to hold on to this and spread it out across your arm. It might help with healing it.” I said.
In return, he nervously nodded at me and did the work himself by applying the plant’s surface all out to his burned marks.
“…W-what are you doing?” asked George as I he could see me treating Tyson.
“I’m just helping them with the burn, go help your son.” I said as I turned back to Tyson who was sweating and irritated by his burn.
“…O-okay.” and with that, George approached to hep his son.
“…” next for me to help was Sheila who was laying by the ground as she held on to her arms, in pain from the burn. From her reaction, it seems as though she was not quite use to pain as much as Tyson was. Serena was there, supporting her with what she can.
But before I could approach, I saw Josy running back with a pale of water in his hand. He then went and poured it on the windows and all the other burned places. Now that I just noticed it, it seems as though the building was on fire.
“…Shit.” I ran back to Sheila and tried to give the plant to her, but before I could, one of the supporting trusses on the roof fell to the ring.
*Boom*
“We have to get out first!” said Serena.
And I nodded.
Without hesitation, I picked up Sheila from the ground and we rushed out of the burning building. Serena followed us with her and we both got out of the building. After this, I had to go back to help put out the fire and help everyone else escape. But before I could move, I gave the leaves to Serena to let her heal Sheila’s wounds.
“W-what is this?” she asked as she felt some left textures, on her hand.
“This is the same plant that healed Shirley back in the Flat Bioma. Please, treat Sheila’s wound.” I said.
“O-okay.” without question, she accepted the leaves, but she felt hesitant to do anything else since she seemed curious as to why I still had this plants in the first place.
I ran back inside with the Elemental Water crystal on my hand, but before I could go in, I saw George and Josy, helping out Tyson as they walked out of the building.
The Smoke was getting worse, and I noticed that Orion was still inside the building.
So without hesitation, I ran inside with the smoke blocking my vision.
“…” as I passed through, I then drenched myself in water to help against the heat and there, I tried searching for Orion by calling out ot him.
“Orion!!” yet with the smoke still continuously growing, I was having a hard time looking around.
“…What the-” but out in the distance, I saw Orion with the sword on his hand. He was simply standing there with no trouble at all, but I was still worried so I ran to him as fast as I could.
But as I did, I saw another piece of a burning wood fall from the ceiling and it made its way directly down to Orion’s place.
“!!” having to act fast, I reinforced my body with mana and I had to pour a continuous amount of water down to one of my hands.
Running as fast as I could, I then jumped to Orion to push him away.
“..!?” Orion was suddenly shocked by what just happened, and saw that I was already making my way out of the building with him by my back.
With the building continuously burning apart, I made it out of alive with him safe and sound.
“…Hmm.” the fire was only getting worse from there on, and a lot of Soldiers in training came to assist with a bucket of water on their hands.
With what seems like a tragedy, no one was fatally injured. So I was relieved.
But I sigh, knowing just how tragic this day was to its end.
“Don’t worry about the damages. I can always have it rebuilt.” said George as he stood by me, reassuring that I don’t have to worry about this.
Well, knowing this family, I guess I don’t have to worry about their financial situation.
