Chapter 90 The Hero’s Father Expects the Worst
“It seems the two of them have safely reached the hideout.”
Wiel, who had been observing the situation of the two remotely from the underwater nation of Dipsea, saw this. Both Croix and Neptune, who had been watching, let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“It’s good that they arrived safely.”
“Yes. I was worried for a moment there.”
“Fufufu, you didn’t need to worry so much. I made sure to draw a proper map, so they won’t get lost.”
[1]That was actually what we were worried about.
Unintentionally, Croix and Neptune’s thoughts aligned.
It was a relief that Mion, with her excellent sense of direction and intuition, was with Dona. If Dona had gone alone, he would likely have ended up lost and perished.
If that had happened, revenge would be the least of their worries.
Of course, they couldn’t say this to Wiel, or she’d sulk and be upset.
Clearing her throat, Neptune spoke up.
“But are they really going to be okay with just the two of them? Their opponents are elite members that even the Dipsea kingdom’s army couldn’t capture for years. Even with a month of training under Croix, it might be a tough battle.”
“Probably.”
Despite Neptune’s concerns, Croix responded with a nonchalant affirmation.
Neptune blinked in surprise at Croix’s demeanor.
“Are you not worried?”
“I am worried, but I believe they’ll be fine. After all, they’ve been trained for this very purpose.”
An unfounded confidence. Yet, Croix’s words carried a strangely convincing sense of assurance that made it seem like everything would be alright.
So it wasn’t something Neptune needed to worry about.
Neptune smiled softly.
“But you know, regarding that cave, it seems to have a somewhat odd structure…”
“Odd structure?”
“From here, it’s too far to see the whole picture. But, well… it seems unusually gigantic or perhaps too long in structure.”
“It’s an organization that has accumulated over many years. If they’ve been expanding it, eventually…”
Croix also noticed the oddity.
The organization, the Sea Gang, was formed by the fishmen expelled from the underwater nation of Dipsea. Even if there had been marriages and births within the organization, their numbers would be limited.
So why did they need to create such a long cave?
And how did they manage to infiltrate Dipsea, and kill Dona’s family?
“…Could it be…?”
“Hmm?”
“Croix, what’s wrong?”
Wiel and Neptune tilted their heads, noticing Croix’s change in demeanor. But Criox’s mind was filled with a hypothesis.
“Your Majesty, may I confirm something? Regarding your water area detection, what is the extent of its range?”
“Hm? Don’t underestimate me, Croix. My water detection is absolute. I can detect any location with water, anywhere in the world.”
“Then let me rephrase my question. If something is slightly floating in the air or has submerged underground below the seabed… How much can you detect?”
“Uh… If it’s floating, I wouldn’t know. And if it’s completely submerged underground…”
Neptune fidgeted awkwardly with his fingers.
The bad premonition was coming true.
“So it’s true…”
“Could it be…?”
“Yes, it’s exactly as you think. — The Sea Gang has been digging underground caves for many years to infiltrate Dipsea.”
Wiel and Neptune’s eyes widened at the seemingly impossible words.
“Th-That can’t be…! Is that really possible?”
“There’s a high possibility. If it were weak humans, it would be unlikely, but with the strength and stamina of fishmen, it’s a different story.”
“So, the innermost part of that cave is connected to…”
“To Dipsea. It’s likely that the cave is currently occupied only by the fishmen who are left behind to hold them off.”
Neptune contacted the commanding officer. But Dipsea is vast. There wouldn’t be just one or two entry points.
If there are ten or twenty holes and they don’t know when the attack might come, it would be impossible to defend them all.
“Wiel, let’s go. While moving, find and seal all the entry points.”
“Yes!”
Even Croix was seemingly flustered and dashed out of the castle at super high speed, heading toward the city.
