Chapter 52 The Hero’s Mother Gives a Handmade Gift
The next day, Alka, Sakya, and Garnos were fully equipped and stood at the gates of the port town Acreana. Garnos wore a tailcoat and carried two slender swords—an outfit that didn’t seem suited for a journey. In contrast, Sakya wore a large cloak with a hood pulled over her head to avoid drawing attention as a High Elf.
“Well, we’re off,” Alka said.
“Alright. Take care,” Croix replied.
“If anything happens, Sakya will contact us, so be prepared,” Wiel added.
“Y-yeah…” Alka responded, feeling that there would be little time to rest in the days ahead.
Sakya and Garnos approached Nax and shook hands.
“Papa, I’m off,” Sakya said.
“Nax-sama, we part ways for a while,” Garnos added.
“Yes. Both of you have the chance to be part of something legendary. Do your best,” Nax responded with a calm smile, seemingly confident that neither would perish.
Sakya then approached Croix and bowed her head slightly.
“Croix-sama, thank you for giving me this opportunity.”
“I only made the suggestion. It was you, Sakya, who made the decision.”
“Even so, without your suggestion, there wouldn’t have been an opportunity,” Sakya replied.
Croix, feeling slightly embarrassed, scratched his cheek. It was just a coincidence, so the gratitude made him a bit uncomfortable. Watching this, Wiel smiled softly and handed Sakya a staff she had been holding. It was about the length of a forearm and light enough to be wielded with one hand.
“Sakya, this is a gift from me,” Wiel said, handing over the staff.
“Wow, it’s such a beautiful staff…!” Sakya exclaimed in awe.
“The shaft is made from the branch of the World Tree. The head contains a high-purity magic crystal, with the core being a bone of a Flame Dragon. The surface is coated with adamantite. I used only materials with excellent magic conductivity, so it should allow you to use magic efficiently,” Wiel explained.
“The World Tree… wait, what?” Sakya asked, suddenly unsure if she heard correctly.
“Yes, the World Tree. Along with the magic crystal, Flame Dragon’s bone, and adamantite,” Wiel confirmed.
“Those are all legendary materials!” Sakya exclaimed in shock.
“I wanted to use the Dragon King’s bone, but unfortunately, I didn’t have it on hand,” Wiel added nonchalantly.
“On hand!? Did you just say ‘on hand’!?” Sakya repeated in disbelief.
Each material was so rare that even a noble’s entire fortune couldn’t buy them. A staff made with such materials would be one of a kind in the world. Yet, Wiel didn’t seem entirely satisfied, a fact that made Sakya realize just how extraordinary Croix’s wife was.
Meanwhile, Mion looked enviously at Sakya’s new staff. Croix, noticing this, gently patted Mion’s head.
“Don’t worry, Mion-chan. I’ll make sure you get something just as good,” Croix reassured her.
“R-really?” Mion asked, her eyes lighting up.
“But only after you’ve done a bit more physical and magical training,” Croix added.
“Y-yes! I’ll work hard!” Mion responded enthusiastically, full of determination.
Seeing Mion’s sudden burst of energy, Croix smiled.
“Well, at the very least, you’ll need to be able to walk on water first,” Croix teased.
“Ugh. I’ll try my best…” Mion replied, her face twitching as she remembered the grueling water-walking training. It was tough, but she was determined to push through it.
After saying their goodbyes, the three—Alka, Sakya, and Garnos—left the gate, walking straight ahead without looking back. The trials awaiting them were still unknown to anyone.

“So, when are we heading out?” Mion asked.
After seeing the trio off and parting ways with Nax, Croix and the others returned to the hotel, where they were now relaxing comfortably on the sofas.
“We’ll be here for a while longer. Our next destination is Sutherland. We’ll be crossing the sea,” Croix replied.
“Sutherland… the desert city, half a month’s journey by ship. So, we’re waiting for a ship then?” Mion inquired, sipping her cocoa.
Crossing the sea meant they’d be using a ship—or so she thought.
“No, we’re walking. What do you think all this training has been for?” Croix responded.
It was the worst possible answer she could have imagined.
“…”
“Covering your ears won’t help,” Croix added.
“Nooo! I don’t want to! I don’t waaant to!” Mion protested.
“Throwing a tantrum won’t change anything,” Croix said firmly.
He wasn’t going to budge, and Mion knew it. As his disciple, she couldn’t really argue with him. And with Wiel smiling in agreement, there was no doubt they were both on board with the plan. Sensing the hellish journey ahead, Mion downed her now slightly salty cocoa.
