- Hey, Best Friend. How About A Kiss Today Too?
- Chapter 61: "It's all good! It's all good!"
“It’s all good! It’s all good!”
“Since I went to visit yesterday, I don’t know what happened, but today Akahori, you seems super sweet on Yakumo-chan.”
Seated across from each other at the learning desk, Hasegawa, a large man, sighed as he said those words to me
Me being sweet on Sagiri…? Hahaha, that’s ridiculous.
“…Isn’t it natural if she’s a close friend?”
“Even if she’s a close friend, guys and girls don’t go to the bathroom together, right?”
“Uh, that was just to the entrance, you know?!”
“Even just until the entrance is too much!”
The large man raised his voice in the small club room. His pressure was unbelievably strong.
Certainly, what Hasegawa said was correct, but the person in question is Sagiri, and going to the bathroom together… huh?
“Could it be that I’ve done something outrageous…?”
“Well, even if you say you’re not dating, nobody would believe you. Things were crazy in the class after you and Yakumo-chan left, you know?”
“We’re not dating though…”
“That’s why it’s the biggest mystery.”
Even I find it mysterious.
Why do Sagiri insist on maintaining the relationship of us being just close friends? And even though we’re just close friends, we kiss, hug, hold arms, always stay together, and embrace in bed…
Looking back, it feels like we effortlessly cross the line of being just friends every day. But if that’s what Sagiri wants, I want to respect it, and as I said yesterday, I didn’t want to see her troubled.
“…Hey, Hasegawa.”
“Yeah?”
“…Is it a bad thing to want to do something for someone you like?”
“Huh, why the sudden question?”
“Just think about it. For example, do you want to see Yuzuru in trouble?”
“Yuzuru-chan!? I definitely don’t want to see that!!”
An immediate, pressurizing response.
But with this, I’m sure.
“So that’s how it is, Hasegawa…!”
“I see, so that’s it, Akahori…!”
A handshake.
Hasegawa was on my side after all.
“But still, going to the bathroom together is definitely a no.”
“Hasegawa!?”
Just as I thought, I was suddenly betrayed.
Maybe I should reconsider my behavior as a friend from now on.
“Come to think of it, you and Yakumo-chan have been calling each other best friends for a while now, haven’t you?”
“Uh, yeah…”
Ignoring my shocked expression, Hasegawa forcefully changes the subject. I wanted to complain, but since it’s about best friends, I suddenly felt tense.
“…If I call Yuzuru-chan my best friend, do you think we could become even closer too?”
But that question wasn’t for me, it was Hasegawa’s own concern.
“…I think she’ll just smile and brush it off like always.”
“Oiiii…!”
The big guy started crying.
Hasegawa directs his affection openly toward Yuzuru, but she doesn’t pay any attention to him at all. Whether it’s due to the long-standing relationship, or she doesn’t see him in that light, or maybe she’s simply not interested in romance, I don’t know.
But I can’t help but feel sorry for him, making such strong advances with no effect.
As Hasegawa and I commiserate over our respective troubles, the door to our club room burst open.
“I’m home!”
Leading the charge was the most beautiful girl in the school, Sagiri, with her long, flowing white hair. This isn’t home, but her smile is dazzling, so it’s all good.
“Hello, hello! I’m home, I’m home! Sorry to keep you waiting, hello, hello, hello!”
Behind her was the president of our club, the smallest girl in the school, Yuzuru. She also said “I’m home,” perhaps influenced by Sagiri, but considering she’s the one who created this place, maybe it’s appropriate for her.
“Y-Yuzuru-chan said ‘I’m home’ to me…!? Then this must be my house!!”
And with that mysterious logic, the big guy was impressed, clasping his hands over his mouth in joy. Should I tell him, as a friend, that such behavior doesn’t suit the top student in the school?
As I marveled at the usual antics of the members of the Selfhood Research Club, who always seem to veer off in strange directions if left alone, another figure caught my eye.
“U-um, um, um… S-sorry for intruding…”
“…Kusakabe?”
The timid girl with her eyes covered, Kusakabe, was here. It was her second visit in a row since Monday. Although we’ve started talking in class, it doesn’t feel too unusual, but she looks as startled as a cat who wandered in and forgot its way home.
“I brought Hina-chin because she seemed bored!”
“I-I’m sorry for intruding…”
My childhood friend who answers everything even when not asked is a bundle of bubbly excitement, while the humble girl who doesn’t know what to apologize for is a bundle of modesty.
“Sagirin is back, and Hina-chin is here too! Let’s start our activities, just like the other day!”
“Whoaaaa! It’s the usual gang of five!”
“N-no, no, not at all!”
“I-it’s quite intimidating, isn’t it?”
Yuzuru, making declarations without sitting down, Hasegawa, being entirely supportive, and Sagiri, joining in the excitement, while Kusakabe looks terrified.
Someone needs to intervene before chaos ensues and someone faints from the confusion and temperature difference.
“…Why not take a seat for now?”
“That’s right! Why not!”
“Yuzuru-chan pointed at me, right…?”
It was an unavoidable combo move, with the president of the Selfhood Research Club pointing at me while the big guy glared at me resentfully. Hasegawa seems to envy everything Yuzuru does.
This is impossible.
“Come on, Hina-chin, take a seat, take a seat.”
“T-thank you… very much!”
And here I am, left out in the cold.
A peaceful exchange of seats between the two is happening right in front of me.
Kusakabe, who was offered a seat by Sagiri, sits next to me. Her back is stiff with tension.
“C-can I really sit here…!?”
And just like that, she starts trembling. She seems quiet, but she’s quite the busy one.
“Oh yes, indeed! It’s not good to always let that happen! No, not good at all!”
President Yuzuru nodded vigorously in agreement with the situation.
As I mentioned before, there are only four chairs in this club room.
“Well, why don’t I just stand like before?”
“Th-that’s not necessary at all!?”
“In that case, I’ll make a quick run and grab some random chairs!”
“S-sorry about this…”
My suggestion was rejected, and Hasegawa seemed like he was about to dash off when suddenly…
“It’s all good! It’s all good!”
Sagiri’s voice echoed in the small room.
“Sagiri?”
“Sagirin?”
“Yakumo-chan?”
“Yakumo, san…?”
Amidst all of us paying attention to her confident demeanor, Sagiri quietly moved.
“If we do this, everyone can sit!”
And then she sat… on my lap, as I was already sitting in a chair.
