- Chapter 6: Let\\\'s Have a Mock Battle with Milena-san!
Episode 6: Let’s Have a Mock Battle with Milena-san!
I’m currently alone at the Adventurers Guild. Today was Milena-san’s day off, and on her day off, Milena-san was supposed to teach me magic and swordsmanship, so I thought I’d visit her. Since I’ve never had Milena-san train me before, I’m looking forward to what her training will be like.
I immediately approached the receptionist, who wasn’t Milena-san today.
“Excuse me, is Milena Mirias-san here?”
“Yes, she’s here. Please wait a moment.”
With a smile, the receptionist brought Milena-san to me.
“Adin-san? What brings you here today?”
“If Milena-san is available, I’d like to ask her to train me.”
Milena-san smiled and clasped her hands together.
“You remembered our previous conversation! Leave it to me! In place of Aria-san, I’ll teach you properly!”
With that settled, Milena-san and I headed to the training grounds at the guild. Since she wanted to assess my abilities first, we decided to have a mock battle. There are no restrictions this time, so we’ll be using both magic and swordsmanship.
“It’s fine for Adin-san to make the first move.”
“Understood.”
I wielded a wooden sword with both hands, while Milena-san held one with just one hand. Although Aria-san and I are both humans, Milena-san is an elf, and elves are often taller than the average adult male human. Milena-san is much taller than me. While I might surpass her height in a few years, for now, I’d prefer to not face her directly.
I pretended to move straight toward Milena-san but feinted, swinging the wooden sword behind her instead.
“Hah!”
However, Milena-san easily caught my trick.
“I’m impressed… With that much force, you could defeat monsters that are much stronger than slimes. Why hasn’t Aria-san sent you on any quests yet?”
As Milena-san was saying something quietly, I continued to swing my sword, not forgetting that we were still in a mock battle. Then, Milena-san took some distance from me.
But… I used water magic to pressure her while she was moving.
A pressurized jet of water headed towards Milena-san, but she easily deflected it with her sword.
…She’s strong. I can’t believe someone who usually works as a receptionist could move like that.
“Adin-san, you’re stronger than I expected… However, your lack of actual combat experience, especially not having been on a quest before, proved to be your downfall.”
Right after Milena-san spoke, my hands and feet were bound by something incredibly hard.
“Regardless of who your opponent is, especially in battles with any elves, you always need to be mindful of the ground… Otherwise, you’ll end up restrained by plants like this.”
As Milena-san said that, I looked and saw that indeed, what was binding my limbs were plants… It’s earth magic, manipulating plants freely. I never expected them to grow this quickly without any warning… When I tried to burn the plants with a fire spell, Milena-san pressed her wooden sword against my neck.
“It’s over. You’ve lost.”
“…Yes.”
With the mock battle concluded, Milena-san released the earth magic, freeing my limbs from the plant.
“While it was just a mock battle today, in real combat, you must be careful, especially with magic that can immobilize you like this. Adin-san has a good-looking face, and thanks to Aria-san, you have a considerable amount of magical power, so if you get restrained, you might experience various… unpleasant things.”
“Unpleasant things?”
“If you’re interested, would you like me to teach you at my place?”
“Your place…? You’re not going to teach me here?”
“Well, it’s a bit difficult here… But perhaps it’s a bit too early for you, Adin-san.”
Milena-san said with a blush.
“Is that so…?”
“Yes, I’ll teach you gently once you’ve aged a bit more, or if I can’t hold back anymore.”
Saying so, Milena-san smiled gently. Although I didn’t quite understand, it seemed there were things I didn’t quite understand with my current self, so I decided to give up for today.
“…But still, Milena-san is really strong. Shouldn’t you be an adventurer instead of a receptionist?”
“I’m said to be the part of the strongest among A-rank adventurers, but not any S-rank ones.”
“Eh…!? Y-you’re that strong!?”
“I’m not so conceited as to evaluate myself that way, but I believe I can demonstrate a certain level of strength.”
I had a mock battle with such a powerful person… Although it was just a mock battle, Milena-san seemed to be mostly observing my movements, so she probably wasn’t serious at all.
“So, if you’re okay with me, Adin-san, I’ll continue to teach you magic and swordsmanship especially when Aria-san isn’t around.”
“Thank you! I look forward to working with you in the future!”
After ending the mock battle and receiving some basic earth magic training, my training ended and thus I returned to the dormitory.
