Chapter 58: Milena-san Makes a Declaration!
“Hello, Milena-san!”
I greeted Milena-san as I came to the Adventurer’s Guild today to take on a new quest.
“Oh, Adin-san! Hello!”
Milena-san looked pleased to see me, but after a moment, she looked around at my surroundings and asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity:
“Is Aria-san not with you today?”
“Yes, Aria-san wanted to come, but after going on several quests together since our first one, I thought it was time for me to start handling quests on my own.”
“That’s a wonderful idea. Since you’ve reached D-rank as an adventurer, you’re able to take on these quests now.”
“I see… Then I’ll take this quest, please.”
I pointed to one of the quest request papers, and Milena-san smiled and replied, “Understood.”
Usually, Milena-san would offer some words of encouragement, but today, she asked me a different question.
“Adin-san, how have things been going lately?”
“How things have been going…? Oh, you mean with the quests? It’s been going smoothly. Thanks to the training I did with Aria-san for a year, I’ve been able to complete quests without much trouble.”
“No, I mean, how are things going with your relationship with Aria-san?”
“Eh…!?”
My relationship with Aria-san… Ah, I see.
“So, you’re asking about our romantic relationship, right?”
“That’s right.”
“Well, it’s hard to say how things are going… But Aria-san has been telling me what she wants to do with me, and I just go along with it. I’m grateful that she tells me what she wants, though.”
“I see… Adin-san, you’re such a kind person, so Aria-san is lucky.”
“No, I’m the one who’s been helped by Aria-san’s kindness many times.”
When I said this with gratitude for Aria-san, Milena-san looked a bit thoughtful and then said:
“If you were about three years older, I might have fallen for you, Adin-san.”
“Eh…!?”
I was stunned by her words, but Milena-san smiled as she continued.
“What’s surprising? I still have feelings for you, Adin-san, though it’s about half as much as I do for you as a family member, not just as a romantic interest.”
“Romantic interest… I’m not sure what you mean, but I think I understand the family part. I don’t have any siblings, but if I had an older sister, I think it would feel like how I feel about you, Milena-san.”
“An older sister, huh… That sounds nice.”
Milena-san smiled in agreement.
“But, in a few years, maybe just one, Adin-san will have gained more experience as an adventurer, and you’ll become even more attractive as a man, too… When that happens, I may end up really liking you, not just half as a family member but fully as a romantic partner. At that time, I’ll approach you without worrying about Aria-san, so please look forward to it.”
“Eh!? That’s… troubling…”
Just as I was about to respond, the door to the Adventurer’s Guild suddenly burst open, and I saw Aria-san standing there. She shouted–
“Adin-kun! Now that I think about it, I was going to be alone with Milena during the quest registration, so I was supposed to come along, but—Ahh!!”
She ran up to me and, looking angry, turned to Milena-san.
“Hey, Milena! Just because it’s the two of you alone, you didn’t say anything weird to Adin-kun, did you?!”
“I didn’t say anything weird. I just made a declaration that if Adin-san becomes more attractive as a man in the next few years, I will approach him without worrying about you, Aria-san.”
“What!?”
The two of them started arguing, but I quickly muttered, “I’m going to take the quest now…” and left the guild to head to the quest location.
—One hour later, after I successfully completed the quest purely by myself for the first time, I returned to the Adventurer’s Guild to report my success. However, when I arrived at the counter, Aria-san and Milena-san were still arguing, and I had to rush in to mediate their dispute.
