Chapter 23: Let’s Capture Adin! Part 2
“Adin-kun! Since things have calmed down and we’re done with all our activities, like the magic tournament and the subjugation of that Demon Army Executive, let’s go out together for the first time in a while!”
“…Taking a break is important, but training──”
“I was really worried during the Demon Army Executive subjugation that you might be in danger… My plan worked out well, but if something had gone wrong then, we might not be spending time together like this──”
“I understand, let’s go, let’s go.”
“Yay~!”
I wanted to focus on training if possible, but feeling guilty for breaking the promise with Aria-san at that time, I had no choice but to agree when it was brought up.
So, Aria-san and I went outside together to go out.
“Today,──”
“Hello Adin-san, Aria-san.”
Just as Aria-san was about to start speaking, Milena, the receptionist from the guild responsible for Aria-san, came out from the neighboring lodging.
Aria-san seemed displeased at being interrupted, speaking angrily to Milena.
“Milena! I was about to tell him today’s plan, so don’t interrupt me!”
“I just greeted you… Are you two going out somewhere today?”
“Yes! Today, I’m planning to let Adin-kun ride a dragon.”
“Eh… a dragon!?”
I couldn’t help but get excited at the sound of it.
A dragon, like those big ones with wings… right?
Since I was a child, I had always wanted to ride a dragon, so I was genuinely happy to hear Aria-san speak about such a plan.
“Exactly, Adin-kun! Happy about it?”
“I’m really happy… but, how are we going to ride a dragon?”
“I have an acquaintance who is the captain of the Dragon Knights directly under this country, so I asked him to let us ride a dragon as a special treat for you! You’ve been wanting to ride a dragon for a while, right?”
The Dragon Knights… if I recall correctly, they’re the ones who ride dragons into battle.
“Master, thank you so much!”
“It’s nothing! How about it? Do you like me?”
“Yes!”
As I energetically responded, Aria-san’s cheeks softened, showing a happy expression… and Milena, who must have heard the entire conversation, muttered quietly.
“I see, trying to increase your favorability by fulfilling Adin-san’s wish, huh?”
“Wh-what!? Milena! Can’t you say something nicer? I’m just trying to make Adin-kun’s wishes come true with pure intentions! Adin-kun, let’s go away from this woman who’s pretending to be nice!”
“Yes, let’s go… Milena-san, see you later!”
“Yes, take care.”
I didn’t quite follow the conversation flow, but I still bowed to Milena, who smiled and said that.
Led by Aria-san, we arrived at a wide grassland near the city… there stood a man in armor who Aria-san said was the captain of the Dragon Knights, and a large red dragon.
“A dragon…! It’s my first time seeing one in person!”
“Ah, it seems like you’re enjoying yourself, Adin-kun. Today, not only will you see the dragon, but you’ll also get to ride on it. How do you feel about that?”
“I’m ready!”
“Alright then! Get on! Let’s take a leisurely flight around the city for starters.”
With Aria-san, the cheerful captain, and me on its back, the dragon took off as soon as the captain gave the signal, beginning its flight… It flew through the sky at a very fast speed, giving us a view of everything from the city to nature.
…What an amazing sight.
“Adin-kun, how do you feel after actually riding a dragon?”
“It’s amazing! The dragon itself, and the view from its back…”
“Haha! That’s good to hear! Since you’re a disciple of Felshte, you’re always welcome to visit the Dragon Knights anytime. If you ever feel like it, drop by.”
“Thank you very much!”
I couldn’t see any path other than being an adventurer for me now, but I felt genuinely happy to be invited by the captain.
“…Adin-kun, what an amazing view, with just the two of us…?”
“Captain! Is piloting a dragon really difficult?”
“It’s not that difficult once you get used to it, but I think it’s better to start with a smaller dragon at first.”
“I see…”
“…Adin-kun, are you okay with heights? If you want, you can hold my hand…”
“Captain! What other types of dragons are there?”
“Hmm? Well, there are black dragons, blue dragons, pretty much any kind of dragon you can think of. But the one that surprised me the most was the story of a rainbow-colored dragon. I’ve never seen one myself, but it’s said that there’s a dragon somewhere in the world that shines with rainbow colors.”
“I’ve heard that story!”
“Is that so? In that case, let me tell you about────”
During our flight around the city, the captain and I had been happily talking about dragons the whole time.
In no time, we finished our flight around the city, and I thanked the captain before returning to the city with Aria-san.
“Aria-san! Thank you very much for today!”
I thanked Aria-san for today’s outing… but.
“What? What’s so great about dragons? I care so much about Adin-kun, and even today, I thought if I could make Adin-kun happy, we could talk and get closer while riding on the dragon’s back, but why are you getting excited about talking about dragons with him? Dragons are just a little bigger and can fly in the sky, but I can fly in the sky too…”
Aria-san was muttering something in a voice I couldn’t hear… I’m sure Aria-san was also shocked by various things about dragons as well.
“Today, capturing Adin-kun failed again…”
I walked quietly along with Aria-san, who had been murmuring something, and we returned to the lodging together, deciding to have Aria-san give me training again starting the next day.
The next day, Aria-san seemed slightly sulky for some reason.
