Chapter 19: Let’s Take on the Quest to Defeat a Demon Army Executive!
Today, Aria-san had some business to attend to, so we came to the Adventurers Guild together.
The guild is as bustling as ever.
Aria-san said she had something to discuss with the receptionist, Milena, so she walked over to her.
I followed after her… but.
There, standing with her back to us while conversing with Milena, was a long-haired woman with aqua-colored hair, Steridone.
“───Quests aren’t just about defeating monsters or gathering necessary materials, they’re also about helping the client who requested it.”
“With such a wonderful mindset when facing quests, it’s no wonder you’re the top achiever in completed quests.”
“I’m just doing what’s normal for adventurers every day… Hm?”
“However, there are some who don’t do the normal things as adventurers. Even among S-ranked adventurers, like Aria, who I’m responsible for.”
“Milena, I’ve come to accept the quest we discussed.”
Aria-san said, likely intending to intimidate Milena, who was about to speak ill of her.
Although Steridone, who had her back to us, seemed to have noticed us before Aria-san called out to her… Milena was at the reception, so she should have noticed us soon enough, but did she not notice us or something?
…That thought only lasted a moment.
“Oh, pardon me. I never thought Aria-san would keep her promise and accept the quest. I was about to let off some steam from my pent-up frustration.”
With that, Milena smiled.
It seemed that she had noticed Aria-san’s presence but was intentionally going to speak ill of her right in front of her.
Leaving that aside…
“Was Aria-san’s business accepting a quest?”
“Yeah, it’s a quest to defeat an executive of the Demon Army. To be more specific, it seems an executive of the Demon Army is preparing to attack a nearby town from here, so to stop them, we’re going to defeat the Demon Army executive… If it were far away, I wouldn’t have bothered, but I thought Adin-kun could be harmed, so I decided to deal with it immediately.”
“A Demon Army executive… Are you sure you’ll be okay?”
“It’ll be fine. I defeated a Demon Army executive unharmed two years ago.”
“But…”
“Adin Almarcus-kun is right. Aria Felste, if you underestimate them, you’ll be taken advantage of.”
“I’ll never be taken advantage of. Unlike a year ago… When I didn’t have anything important outside of my memories, now I have a reason to remain strong.”
With that, Aria-san smiled gently at me and lightly stroked my head… I could feel that Aria-san cherished me, both in mind and body.
After letting go of my head, Aria-san posed a question to Steridone.
“By the way, why is Steridone here at this guild?”
“After we finished talking at the armor shop yesterday, I followed Aria Felste and Adin Almarcus-kun and found out that they’re staying at the S-ranked adventurers’ accommodation in this guild. Or rather, I began using the room next to yours yesterday.”
“Huh!?”
Aria-san showed a great surprise at that fact.
Next to us… If that’s the case, I might have more opportunities to meet Steridone in the future.
“Oh! In that case, I want to spend some time alone with Adin-kun as soon as possible, so Adin-kun will be with me. Then, Milena, please take care of the troublesome paperwork… Shall we go, Adin-kun?”
“Yes.”
I bowed to Milena and Steridone, then left the Adventurers Guild with Aria-san.
“Aria Felste… Regarding magical power and its manipulation, she can be considered a top-tier mage without question, and her insight and coping abilities in combat situations are high as well, so she won’t easily lose in pure combat… However, it’s a precarious situation.”
“Yes, Aria can make optimal judgments during battles… but when it comes to matters outside of combat… it might disrupt Aria’s emotions…”
“Yeah, if anything disrupts Aria Felste’s emotions, we must… hope that it doesn’t affect the upcoming battle against the Demon Army executive.”
“…Indeed.”
