Episode 15: Let’s Have Our First Almost Real Battle!
“Now! In the third match, we have the unknown figure Adin Almarx, who is the disciple of Aria Feruste, she showed a fierce battle in the first match but has yet to reveal her true power, and Rento Rendel, a rising star who has accumulated various experiences as a party support member and has already received scouts from numerous parties, both are aged fifteen! It’s a showdown of the people of the same age!!”
The announcer’s voice stirred up the audience. …Being declared as Aria-san’s disciple and someone who’s yet to reveal her true power? That’s true, but the hurdle seems too high for me… Since I’ve been introduced as Aria-san’s disciple, I originally planned to win, but now I can’t afford to lose to uphold Aria-san’s honor.
The opponent is a boy with orange hair, apparently the same age as me.
…Being scouted by numerous parties already, he must be quite talented. I need to stay focused.
“Now, let’s start right away! The third match, Adin Almarx versus Rento Rendel, begins!!”
First, I tried to assess the opponent’s moves, holding my sword and focusing on Rendel… but then, I heard a loud and clear voice from the audience directed at me.
“Kyaa~! Adin-kun! You’re so cool~! Do your best~!”
“…”
Aria-san was shouting so loudly that she’d embarrass herself, but I decided not to let it bother me and focused on Rendel.
“Take this!”
Rendel shouted and threw fire magic at me. It’s quite slow compared to Aria-san’s, so I could easily dodge it. As I dodged the attack, the audience seemed to get a little excited.
“He dodged…!?”
Rendel also seemed surprised, but I calmly counterattacked with water magic.
Rendel couldn’t avoid the water magic and was lightly blown away by my magic… But being scouted by numerous parties means he’s definitely much stronger than someone like me who can’t even defeat a slime. He’ll probably use this opportunity to assess my strength and come up with various strategies to fight back.
“Rendel…”
“The third match is over! The winner is Adin Almarx!!”
“Wow!!”
“Huh?”
I was puzzled by the announcement of the match ending, but upon closer inspection, although he didn’t seem to be that injured, Rendel seemed to have lost consciousness due to the impact earlier and couldn’t get up.
“…Did I win?”
…It’s true that I won, but after watching Aria-san and Steridone-san’s battle, the match feels too quick for me to feel like I’ve won.
As I was feeling conflicted about my victory, I heard Aria-san’s voice that I had deliberately tuned out during the fight, so I went back to her.
“Welcome back, Adin-kun! You were so cool!”
“Aria-san…! It’s embarrassing when you shout such things so loudly!”
“Eh~ I’m just telling the truth~? I’ve been cheering for Adin-kun the whole time during the match!”
…Although she had been cheering for me quite loudly throughout the short match, I’ll try to not tune into whatever she says out loud in the future.
“Thank you… It doesn’t feel like I won, but I’m glad I won my first almost real battle!”
“Yeah, yeah! I think Adin-kun has definitely grown a lot just from today alone, gaining experience and everything!” With that, my mentor lightly patted my head.
After that, since I was only a trainee, I only had one match, but Aria-san continued to win her matches and eventually won the magic tournament, so in the evening, I went to Aria-san’s victory celebration party.
