- Having Had My Bride Stolen, I Just Want to Live Peacefully
- Chapter 6 - I Bought Bento Again, Brother-in-Law
I wear a tie in front of the mirror in the morning.
“He told me I was fired, but I didn’t get a notice of dismissal, so it’s invalid.”
That was my father.
I remember being fired after being yelled at in the waiting room by that person who was furious that he had been humiliated because the bride had been taken away on the day of the wedding.
I worked in the System Development Department of Ichinose Company, my father’s company.
Ichinose Company is such a large company that it can be counted as one of Japan’s eight largest trading companies.
But it was not enough to fit among the top five.
He didn’t think much of it and had an ambition to make his company bigger.
The Fujisaki Group, the father’s company of my ex-fiancée Himeno-san, is a large company far more than the Ichinose Company.
The Fujisaki Group was looking for a man to take over the company.
If he had established a strong relationship with someone who didn’t need someone like me, it would have been a wish and fulfilled it.
The marriage between Himeno-san and me was, so to speak, a political marriage.
In fact, even during the period after our engagement until we got married, we received more and more jobs related to the Fujisaki Group.
I guess my father had the will to make his company bigger by following me behind the scenes when I got married and took over the Fujisaki Group.
But that ambition was shattered.
Needless to say, the reason was that the marriage between Himeno-san and I was called off.
The executives from each company also came to celebrate the wedding of Fujisaki Group and Ichinose Company, the daughter and son of a large company.
It is within my wildest expectations that my father, who cares more about his appearance and reputation than anyone else, will be furious.
It was quite unexpected that he had never once said a word of thanks to me, his son, but rather said that it was my fault for being stolen away in the first place.
“He must have thought I was not his son, but a convenient pawn.”
While preparing, I pick up the cup set in the coffee machine and carry it to the table.
“Well, I didn’t see him as my father.”
I sat down on a chair, took a sip of coffee, and muttered to myself.
As it was common for me to work continuously, work overtime, and work on holidays, my daily routine was to drink coffee and drink caffeine to wake my body up.
“It’s more work than that. I’ve had a few days off, but I wonder if they’re all right.”
I was on vacation for the wedding, and I took a leave of absence because I was on vacation the day after the wedding.
That person in the sports association thinks that sales are everything and that it is a machine that can be created on its own if they instruct us in the system development department.
With this idea and the fact that the department has started in recent years, the system development department has tended to be looked down upon in the company.
This department, which is operated by unreasonable specifications, schedules, and small staff and budget, was always at the last minute.
In order to overcome the situation, a system development was launched, and it was finally on track near completion.
Then came my sudden dismissal.
I’d like to think that the sentence of dismissal is a lie, and if I really get fired, at least I need to do a proper handover.
I have no feelings for him or his company, but I am attached to everyone in the department, and I don’t want to cause any trouble.
I was about to have another cup of coffee while thinking about it.
Ding dong.
The intercom rang through the house.
“Who could it be this early in the morning?”
Huh? I think I said this yesterday.
While feeling a scratch on my chest, I stood up from the chair and watched the video of the intercom.
There was a beautiful girl I had seen.
It was Nene-chan.
Today, the red inner color was still reflected in her black hair, and there was a black choker around her neck, which showed that Nene-chan was very thin and delicate.
What’s different from yesterday is that she’s wearing a ribbon on her knit vest.
“Good morning, brother-in-law.”
Nene-chan greets me calmly, looking the same as yesterday.
“Nene-chan, what brings you here today?”
“I brought a bento.”
Nene-chan held up a bento with characters drawn on it so that it could be seen on the camera.
“Huh, again today?”
“Yeah, my mom was happy to be praised, so she made another one.”
I see, my thanks backfired.
Maybe Nene-chan will bring it again. I felt bad for Nene-chan.
“Thank you very much.”
I can’t help but take it.
However, I can’t bear to have Nene-chan bring it this far.
“I’m going to pick it up, so wait there―”
“Brother-in-law.”
Nene-chan calls me and cuts me off slightly.
No, this is probably because of the lug on the intercom.
Nene-chan won’t interrupt like that.
“Huh?”
“I came here to return something, apart from the bento.”
Nene-chan put away the bento and picked up something else.
It was the change of sweatpants that I lent to Nene-chan yesterday.
Come to think of it, I didn’t realize I didn’t get it back yesterday.
Did she bring it back to me, wash it, and bring it back? She’s a kind girl.
“I’m the one who borrowed it, so I’ll bring them back, right?”
“No, that’s…”
I was going to say it’s alright, but I noticed when I saw Nene-chan’s face look sorry with her eyebrows down.
If I go and get it myself, I think I’ll be patronizing.
She might want to repay the kindness because she’s a kind child.
I should be honest and accept her offer.
“Please excuse my intrusion.”
I was just going to pick it up at the front door, but she asked me, “Can you eat the bento now?”
I heard that mother-in-law asked her to tell her everything after seeing how I was eating.
So I ended up inviting her inside.
From the person who made the food point of view, it might be better to say that it was delicious than just one word.
It’s embarrassing to eat in front of Nene-chan, but it’s better than being filmed.
Also, I can return the bento by having it as breakfast, which is just right.
I forgot to tell her yesterday because of a lot of things, but I’ll tell her to stop making bento.
I’m grateful, but feel bad to have mother-in-law make it for me again or for Nene-chan to have to bring them over.
Because the Fujisaki family and I are just strangers.
“I’ll return this first, thank you.”
When I receive sweatpants from Nene-chan, it gives off a sweet and gentle smell.
I wonder if it’s a softener, but it smells completely different from what I’m using.
Did I smell something like this when I woke up?
With that in mind, I put up the sweatpants and headed to the closet in my room.
Then I quickly returned to the living room and sat down at the table.
The reason I hurried was probably because I wanted to eat that bento soon.
There was me trying to enjoy the bento even though I was trying to get them to stop making it.
The taste of the bento I ate yesterday stimulated my taste and filled my heart.
Then, I put them together and said thank you to the bento in front of me.
“Thank you for the meal.”
Ah, my mistake, it was his biological dad’s company he was working at. I suppose it is still good to go in and prepare for his dismissal in case he is fired.
He can get his severance check if his father has the power to fire him without a dismissal notice being sent out.
