When I Reincarnated, I Became Even More of a Gorilla - 9
Am I dreaming?
I’m Elena=Gladysbalt, the daughter of a frontier count of the Paruvena Kingdom. Even so, I’m a mage with top grades in the Royal Academy. As a mage, I manipulated two attributes, one of which is fire and the other is light, which is apparently a bit unusual.
Such isn’t possible for me in reality at the moment. I was involved in a battle between monsters.
Why am I in a situation like this?
Two weeks ago, when I went with my escorts to the Sage’s Forest in my family, Gladysbalt territory to get a familiar for my school homework, when we were attacked by Goblins.
I was able to deal with the attack itself without any problem, but in a moment of carelessness, my mother’s memento was stolen by the retreating Goblins.
Wearing a pendant may have been a misfortune, as it seemed to have fallen off during the battle, but when I realized it, the Goblins were already nowhere to be found. The escorts persuaded me to leave that day, but I was determined to come back for it one day.
Disappointed, I returned to my parents’ home, but my misfortune didn’t end there, as my little sister Misha found out that the memento had been taken and said she would go looking for it.
I somehow managed to put the matter under control, and after that, I had to give some reason for her to stop looking for the memento, like how I couldn’t go because I had school, but when I went back to my parents’ house for the holidays, there was a commotion about Misha’s absence, and the mansion was in an uproar.
I went to the Sage’s Forest to see if I could find her, and sure enough, there she was, wandering alone in the forest. Fortunately, she didn’t seem to have met any monsters, as I myself might be in danger fighting monsters while protecting Misha. I regretted not bringing an escort at that time.
I was able to join Misha soon after, gave her a light scolding and was about to leave the forest when we were attacked again by a group of Goblins.
As I said before, it was difficult for me to fight alone while protecting Misha. As I was thinking of a way to somehow make sure Misha survives, even if it’s just her, the Goblins overwhelmed me with their numbers.
That’s when it appeared. At first, I thought it was a gorilla, but when I looked at it again, I could see that the fur on its back was golden, so I immediately knew what it was.
The gorilla was a rare monster generally known as a Goldback. The last record of one being subjugated is from a long time ago, and the only taxidermied specimen I’ve seen is a smaller one displayed at a museum in the Royal Capital.
However, in our Gladysbalt territory, Goldbacks are famous for their intelligence, and we have avoided meddling with them, calling them the Sages of the Forest. There was no merit in fighting them anyway. The last Sage of the Forest should have died 500 years ago, so this must be a different Goldback.
After that, I was surprised. It really seems to be as clever as the literature says, as it seems to be somewhat fluent in using letters. I promised to meet that Goldback, Gorimatsu, again before we went home.
After returning home, I immediately reported to my father. The purpose was to discuss how we, Frontier County Gladysbalt, would deal with the situation.
Father was skeptical at first, but as Misha supported my report, as a result, it was decided that if it was possible to interact with it, we would do so.
A week later, I went back to my parents’ home again for the school holidays and headed to the appointed place. I didn’t have escorts with me last time, so I also went to this spot by myself. However, I can’t be really sure of what would happen and with my father worrying too much, I left Misha behind.
And so, when I finally got to see it, Gorimatsu handed me a satchel and was hurriedly writing letters.
I was surprised that a Goldback would have a satchel, but I was more surprised by what it had just written. After all, written on it were the words “monster, come, hide, oneself, monster, beat”, which should mean something was coming.
Even if he says a monster was coming though, I’m not sure if it could even be a threat. However, Gorimatsu did seem flustered, so I hid behind his back, but the monster that appeared really surprised me.
I didn’t expect to find a Murder Grizzly here in the Sage’s Forest. Moreover, with the fire-attribute mana it held in its body, I realized that it was an evolved monster.
I had an idea as to why the Murder Grizzly had come here, and it was about as dangerous as a Goldback. I was ready to die. I thought I would never see my family again.
However, Gorimatsu stood up, as if to reassure me, and let out a war cry. It was a roar so loud that I couldn’t even block it by covering my ears, and the drumming that followed was incredible. The first collision was also extraordinarily powerful.
The Murder Grizzly, perhaps provoked by the drumming, stopped looking at me at all and started concentrating on Gorimatsu. Moreover, it seemed to be furious and was trying to intimidate Gorimatsu with its fangs bared.
However, the battle from there on could only be described by one word: spectacular.
The two monsters collided in the center and started striking each other with their strength, exchanging attacks one after another. All those attacks would normally have been a killing blow, and no monster or adventurer would have survived to receive a second strike.
Still, what I can see is that the number of times Gorimatsu is attacked is gradually decreasing. How should I say this…… It’s like Gorimatsu is getting better at using its body or maybe it’s getting accustomed to fighting the bear.
I’m not going to have a future if Gorimatsu doesn’t win here. Even if I don’t say it out loud, let’s cheer for Gorimatsu.
(Do your best! Gorimatsu!)
I don’t know if my support reached Gorimatsu, but from that moment on, Gorimatsu’s movements visibly improved.
