When I Reincarnated, I Became Even More of a Gorilla - 36
[Gyui? (What’s the matter? Why the surprise?)]
It seems like he doesn’t understand what I’m surprised about, but wouldn’t anyone be surprised if your species were suddenly guessed?
[Oog oog? (How did you know my species?)]
When I asked this, he casually explained as if it was nothing special.
[Gyui. (You see, it’s just a guess based on the information I have. When the young man from Gladysbalt, no, he’s now the lord, right? I’ve been there once when he was a student here. My partner isn’t only the Head of the Academy, but also a Monsterology Scholar. We went to investigate the Sage of the Forest in the Gladysbalt Territory.)]
Those are quite the astonishing pieces of information. Not only about how he guessed my species, but that aside, it seems like he’s the familiar of the Head of the Academy.
The Academy Head commutes here riding on his familiar then?
[Gyui. (In that forest, there were no Kong-type monsters, and we couldn’t meet any Goldbacks at the time. I had forgotten, but Goldfur’s aura shows that you’re very strong. Not as much as me though. That’s why I’m convinced this was the case.)]
I see. Since they’ve investigated Elena’s father’s territory, he knew that Arm Kong didn’t exist there.
However, I shouldn’t be emitting any strong aura at the moment. I currently have the appearance of a normal monkey, so I should have been able to deceive him at first.
By the way, why does he call me a Goldfur?
[Oog oog. (I don’t really understand, but that sounds amazing. Why are you so smart? Is it because you’ve lived for so long?)]
When I asked him, he cheerfully laughed and introduced himself.
[Gyugyu gyugyu, gyui. (Hahaha, indeed so. I’m the one who had been reigning over the skies for a long time, the Sky Dragon Beluga. I made a contract with my partner, thinking I could pass the time for at least a human life’s length, but I was able to meet some interesting people.)]
He unmistakably introduced himself as a Dragon. I had anticipated this from his huge body and the fact that he flew in from the sky, but with the things I could see with my eyes, I could only predict what he was at the moment.
In other words, I just had an encounter with an isekai creature. Dragons really are something straight out of fantasy after all.
[Oog oog. (I guess all Dragons are smart then?)]
[Gyui. (No, it depends on the Dragon. We Sky Dragons generally live in groups and have become smart in the course of our lives. Runner Dragons and the like don’t interact much with humans. That said, there are some smart ones.)]
When he said that, I changed my mind. I certainly had already met a Dragon. Frey seemed more like a sulking girl, so I didn’t even feel impressed when I saw that Dragon.
I see, well, Beluga-san has a build so huge that one could clearly call him a Dragon, so if I’m going to feel impressed about a Dragon, having it this way is much better.
[Oog oog. (Hmmm. Is that so? I hope the next Dragon I meet isn’t aggressive.)]
[Gyui. (Don’t worry. One rarely encounters Dragons. Besides, if they’re aggressive, they’re immediately exterminated. Strong as we are, that doesn’t mean we are invincible.)]
He said that with a slightly lonely look, but well, maybe something happened back then. However, that doesn’t concern me.
[Oog oog. (Oh well. Anyhow, can you teach me more?)]
[Gyui. (You’re the type to ignore things that don’t concern you huh. Well, whatever. So, what’s next?)]
He seemed to have a similar personality to mine. He looked strong too, so I wanted to know his rank and such, but asking about those things would be bad manners, so I decided to end that topic.
I opened the book and asked him to teach me the next word.
[Oog. (How do you read this?)]
[Gyui. (Umu, this one———-)]
And so, my private lesson with the Dragon began.
***
[—————–Gyui. (And so, while this may lead to minor squabbles, it wouldn’t necessarily escalate into a full-blown war. How is it, do you understand?)]
[Oog. (Unn. I understand. So there’s a rule like that. With this, I think I can remember the rest on my own. Thanks.)]
Beluga, being long-lived, was very good at teaching, and I finished reading through the book in about 40 minutes. It’s really nice to have a teacher.
[Gyui. (Is there anything else you want to learn? It seems like there’s still some time left, so I can teach you more.)]
[Oog? (Really? Well then, Sensei, can you use magic?)
Deciding to call him Sensei, I asked about magic.
[Gyui? Gyui. (Sensei huh? Umu, I like the sound of that. Goldfur. Magic is an essential skill for us Dragons. I specialize in Wind Magic.)]
Sensei taught me about magic with pleasure.
[Gyui. (As you can see, Dragons like us have large bodies, but our wings aren’t particularly large. That’s where magic comes in. As a Dragon, I can use magic of various attributes, but I specialize in Wind Magic.)]
According to Sensei’s explanation, when flying, he uses Wind Magic to supplement buoyancy and propulsion. Certainly, the wings I saw outside the window seemed too small for him to fly using them.
Sensei looks like a Western Dragon with blue scales, but since it’s so big, I was skeptical if those wings could really help him fly, but magic is a convenient thing.
[Oog oog? (It seems I can use Earth Magic, but I don’t know how to use it. Can you teach me?)]
When I said that, Sensei responded with interest.
[Gyui? (What? You can use magic huh. Goldbacks were supposed to be a physically oriented species, but this is interesting. Fumu, Earth Magic huh. Well, first, let’s see how much mana you can handle.)]
Since Sensei said that, I did everything I could do.
First, I strengthened my body and clad in mana, moved my arms, legs and head. I feel like I can move more smoothly than before.
Sensei looked impressed when he saw that.
[Gyui. (Those are quite impressive movements. However, you’re only using mana. What a waste. Can you not manipulate magicules?)]
Magicules are those in the air, right? Those are the magic particles I still can’t move much. I’d also rather move them if I could.
[Oog. Oog? (I still can’t do that. What should I do?)]
[Gyui. (Fumu, we should start from there then. If you can’t make use of magicules, you can’t use magic. That may not be the case for humans, but that’s how it is for monsters.)]
According to Sensei, humans can use magic just with their mana. Elena certainly was like that. I guess that won’t be the case for us.
[Gyui. (Make magicules outside of your body by releasing your own mana. Make sure not to sever your connection with it upon release though. Maintaining that connection, absorb magicules with that mana, otherwise, you can’t use magic.)]
I see. I try to release mana as Sensei says, but as soon as I release it, the magic power leaves my hand and converts into magicules. This is tough.
[Gyui. (Now, now, no need to rush. Even if you can’t do it right away, all you have to do is practice.)]
[Oi, sorry to keep you waiting. I’ve got the necessary goods. It’s about time we get going! Hm? What are you doing?]
Just as Sensei was giving me advice, I heard a voice from somewhere above the dormitory. Hmm, that must be the Headmaster then.
[Gyui. (Ohh, I’ve been waiting for you. Wait a moment. Goldfur, for now, continue what you’re practicing now. There will be another opportunity after all. Next time, I’ll teach you something a bit more difficult.)]
[Oog oog. (Unn. Thank you. I’ll practice so I’ll be ready by next time.)]
[Gyui. (Umu, I’ll see you later.)]
Saying that, Sensei lifted his head. Then, after talking to the Headmaster, he flew off into the sky.
Their presence fades away from sight, but as expected of a Dragon, I can still feel his presence here. When he arrived, it seemed like he had hidden his presence.
Although my reading lessons have been almost completed, unexpectedly, I was able to start practicing magic, so I won’t be bored when Elena has class.
I’m a little tired today though, so I’ll take a break and wait for Elena to come back.
