When I Reincarnated, I Became Even More of a Gorilla - 27
Moving to a spot a little away from where Elena and the others were doing their barehanded kumite, I started warming up. I had already done it earlier, but that was just a nonchalant one to pass the time, not having any idea that I would actually be doing kumite myself.
For now, as my warm-up exercise, taking what Elena and the others are doing as a reference, I will do the radio calisthenics from my previous life. In the meantime, I will also organize the information I have on hand.
First of all, since this lecture wasn’t only about using weapons, I’m concerned about what the teacher intends to do.
He did have the students pair up and do kumite, so I’m thinking there’s no way he’s going to take up a weapon. Glancing at the teacher, I saw that he was cracking his finger joints, looking at me as if he was observing me.
It seems that the teacher knows about the Arm Kong monster, and he must be aware that I’m a little smarter than the Arm Kong he knows. Intellect alone is a factor that modifies the danger level of a monster upward. In his mind, this teacher must think of me as a tricky opponent.
I heard how he used to be an adventurer, but when I think of adventurers, they should be those people with weapons who used to hang around the Sage’s Forest from time to time. I would assume that he’s skilled in barehanded combat as well.
From what I can see based on the teacher’s mana, he doesn’t seem to be a magic-user. To be a magic-user, one must have the appropriate mana. It seems that humans inherently possess attributes as a definite matter, and whether they can use magic or not depends on whether they can manifest those attributes. From there, it’s apparently determined by the number of attributes whether one can become a mage.
In any case, this teacher isn’t a magic-user. Well, she should be able to at least use Body Reinforcement. Skills aren’t something people would tell others, so I don’t think Elena would know even if I asked her what his skills were, but I would know if I saw him using it.
After I finished my warm-up exercise, I was ready to go, and by that time, I noticed that the attention of the students around us had focused on me and the teacher.
Amongst them was the sighing Elena, who looked at me as if she was asking me what I was doing.
[Oog, oogogo. (Hmmm, we’re kinda standing out.]
To be honest, I’m now starting to regret accepting the teacher’s suggestion, but well, I can’t avoid this situation anymore.
Even if I say things like “On second thought, I give up”, it’s unlikely to get through to this teacher. I mean, in the first place, we don’t even speak the same language. Well, I do have the option of writing it down, but from the few interactions we had, this teacher seems to be the type who enjoys combat, so even if I were to try writing out my thoughts, he’ll probably attack first before I can finish.
And so, I’ll just obediently accept this kumite, and if I’m going to be scolded by Elena, I’ll obediently apologize.
For my part, I wanted to learn about the strength of the people in this world, so having this kumite was just right.
[Now then, are you ready? Don’t mind the gazes of the students.]
[Oog. (Unn.)]
[This is also a good opportunity for everyone to see how Arm Kong fights. Alright, you lot, watch carefully. You don’t get to see an obedient Arm Kong around very often after all.]
Saying this to the students, the teacher then moves away from me. It seems like the initial position for kumite here is done with a slight distance between each other.
And then, just as we were about to start, the teacher seemed to have realized something and turned to Elena.
[Ah, that’s right. Gladysbalt! I’m now going to have kumite with your familiar, you alright with that!?]
[Y- Yes.]
The teacher seems to be asking permission, but in fact, he doesn’t seem to have any intention of making her refuse. There’s a strong pressure in the way he said it. Elena too, although she’s an excellent student, doesn’t seem to have any intention of disobeying the teacher, so she agreed.
[Alright, we got the master’s approval. We’re now gonna have our own private match from here on out. Are you ready?]
[Oog, oog oogo. (Unn, I’m ready when you are.)]
Saying this to the teacher, I put my arms out in front of me. As a gorilla, I have no fighting style or anything like that, but it would be more efficient to be in a knuckle-walking position. The distance between us is 5 meters, so it’s better if I shorten that distance immediately.
[Alright then, Gladysbalt, what’s the name of this Arm Kong!?]
[He’s Gorimatsu. Gorimatsu! Sensei is one of the top adventurers. His rank is also as high as 6. Think of him as different from the adventurers you saw in the forest!]
Elena told the teacher my name, and provided an unbelievable piece of supplementary information.
The teacher was apparently a Rank 6 like me. I was honestly surprised because I had thought that people in teaching positions in schools would usually not be the type that could keep on fighting on the front lines like him.
I decided to put away all thoughts of holding back against this teacher and treat him with the same level of caution I had against the bear.
[Gladysbalt, don’t say unnecessary things! Well, whatever. Everyone! You probably already know the basic function of the collar he’s wearing, but with this Arm Kong, while it has been reduced in size due to the collar’s effect, everything else remains the same as when it was larger. Its small stature definitely doesn’t make it a weak monster, so it can still pose a significant threat. Make sure to observe how such a shrunk monster fights. You never know what will be useful in a battle. Knowledge you’ve seen before might come in handy in unexpected situations. Alright, let’s do this. Gladysbalt.]
The teacher gives one piece of advice to his students, and then silently takes a stance. It was a karate-like stance, with one fist forward and the other hand clenched in front of his chest. It seems he’s teaching barehanded combat because he’s good at it.
In response, I start moving quietly with my hands on the ground. Although it wasn’t explicitly stated, it’s all just a matter of time, so moving around isn’t that significant.
The one who even became flustered when I moved is Elena, not the teacher. When the teacher called out to her, Elena immediately raised her voice.
[Start!]
At that moment, our figures blurred and collided at the center. The teacher thrust his right fist against me, and I swung my arm down as if to crush him from above.
As can be seen from the situation, I decided to leap and attack from above right from the start.
There’s a difference in arm reach between me and the teacher after all. I was trying to cry my way through that.
Just like that, our kumite started. I ended up one-sidedly receiving the first attack though.
