When I Reincarnated, I Became Even More of a Gorilla - 19
While the two were frozen in place, I poured my mana into my guild card and flipped it to the next page. I was told that the function apparently temporarily disables the magic circle that conceals the information that shouldn’t be shown to anyone other than the card’s owner.
Thereupon, what appears on the card are the things I can do. Displayed in the familiar card was the following:
Gorimatsu
Golden-Haired Gorilla
Body Reinforcement
Earth Magic
It’s very simple, but it seems that what is shown here is what I can do. Technique, Skills, Abilities, in the fantasy novels of my previous life, they were described in a variety of ways, but it seems that even in this world, there’s also something like that.
However, is this all there is to it?
As I was thinking this, Elena, who had recovered from the shock she had just experienced, seemed to be explaining it to me. As Father is still frozen, I don’t suppose he’s going to be useful.
[Gorimatsu. I’m certainly surprised, but I will explain. On the back of the Guild Card, the top three abilities of the person are displayed. It’s rare to have three abilities listed though.]
[Oog? Oogyoogo oogo? (Is that so? In that case, I guess this is all my abilities.)]
At my words, Elena shook her head. However, it isn’t that she’s denying me saying “this is all my abilities”, but suggesting that there are other possibilities.
[That isn’t always the case. Some individuals have four or more abilities, and when it comes to monsters, in the first place, it’s a whole different story.]
[Oog? (In the first place?)]
[Yeah, in the case of monsters, there are often skills that indicate the individual, just like Gorimatsu’s Golden-Haired Gorilla. These skills can have various effects and aren’t limited to just one. For example, in Gorimatsu’s case, it might at least have a roar or a shock-type effect. Skills with multiple effects like that are called Racial Skills for monsters and Job Skills for humans.]
Hmmm. Then, I guess that’s also the case with that bear.
[Oog oog? (Just like with that bear?)]
[Hmm? Ahh, that’s right. That one’s a little special too but…… It’s a similar case. I’m not well-versed, but I know a bit about it. However, I don’t know how true it was, but I’ve heard it said that there was a man who made one of them his familiar. Murder Grizzlies apparently have the skill “Killer Bear”. It’s apparently a skill that specializes in killing, but I wonder why it’s only limited to humans? And so, there’s a slight difference as the bear at that time wasn’t a Murder Grizzly but a Flare Grizzly. Flare Grizzlies are mutations of Murder Grizzlies. Mutations are often confused with evolutions, but mutations are ones that retain their original skills while changing other characteristics. That bear must have developed Fire Magic. If it had evolved, its Killer Bear skill should have changed.]
I see. But if that’s the case, does that mean that the Earth Magic in my skill section is a mutation?]
[I know what that expression means. You’re talking about this, right?]
Elena points to the Earth Magic section of my Guild Card and looks at me. I nodded and asked her to explain it.
[In Gorimatsu’s case, you probably don’t have any further evolution? If you don’t evolve like Humans, you probably won’t have any mutations either. Since it isn’t something taught in schools though, I’m not really sure. I’ll look it up next time.]
[Oog. Oog. Oog oog. (No. You don’t have to do that. It doesn’t really bother me.)]
I appreciate Elena’s suggestion, but I don’t think it’s gonna be useful, so I declined. It’s not like I’m going to need to know it anyway. If that’s the case, she should probably just spend her time on something else.
Well then, I guess that confirms all of the skills I have. I guess I really am a combat-oriented familiar huh.
Besides fighting, the only other things I have are intelligence, which was apparently inherent to my species, and Earth Magic. I think Body Reinforcement is that one I called Mana Boost, so I can’t use it for anything else. It’s a skill that only makes my strikes stronger.
At that moment, Father pulled himself together and regained his composure. It seems his interest is in my rank.
[Gorimatsu-kun! You’re pretty strong! Even though I’m just Rank 4, the legend about Goldbacks being wise and strong really is true huh. A Rank 6 one-year-old monster would be comparable to a Dragon!]
Excited, Father lifted me up and spoke rapidly. It seems that a Rank 6 is quite valuable. Monsters like Dragons aren’t something you come across easily after all.
I believe Father being a Rank 4 is due to his role as a defender on the frontier, but in that case, I’m probably quite the unusual familiar.
Elena, who was listening to Father’s story, looked at me with a slightly pale face.
[In that case, Father, wouldn’t it be bad if I bring Gorimatsu around? I mean, there are procedures and regulations for familiars like Dragons in the Royal Capital after all.]
[Yeah, that’s right. However, Gorimatsu-kun should be fine. If he’s in his small form, he looks like a normal monkey. They’re known quite a lot in the Royal Capital after all. Well, acting like them would be impossible for monsters that aren’t intelligent though.]
[That’s a relief then.]
[Ahh, but I think it would be better if you properly get in touch with the Royal Capital, or rather, with the academy. I think they will probably publicly announce him as either an Arm Kong or a Black Monkey.]
It seems like I would probably have to live as a different monster in the academy. Well, I guess that makes it easier for them to believe that I’m not dangerous. It would be troubling if people think I’m too weak of a monster though.
What if someone tries to bother Elena? Elena is my master. Anyone who dares make fun of her…… Unn, let’s think about it when that happens.
I may be small, but I still have my strength and my Down-B technique. I can punish anyone who tries as much as I want.
Now that I know what I can do, I have a better understanding of how I conduct myself in the academy. Things shouldn’t turn out badly even in the Royal Capital.
I don’t have the skills of a horse or a slime, but I’m convinced I can fulfill my role as a familiar just by being strong.
Unnn, I wonder what we’ll do now?
[Alright, now that we have Gorimatsu’s guild card, let’s set off for the Royal Capital.]
[Oogo. (I suppose so.)]
Speaking of which, Elena has to go back to school, right? School huh. I went to school quite a long time ago, so I’m looking forward to it.
Well, it’s not like I’ll be taking classes.
Now then, let’s get ready.
