When I Reincarnated, I Became Even More of a Gorilla - 17
The first thing that was done when we returned to the room we had just left was to take my blood sample. When the Baron said he was going to check my rank in that room and took out a large syringe without any explanation, I certainly felt very nervous.
If Elena hadn’t stopped me there, I definitely would have gone berserk. I mean, with my stature reduced to this size, that needle seemed very thick and painful.
With that in mind, I expressed my discomfort to Elena, to which she instructed the Baron to provide an explanation.
The Baron seemed to think that explaining to me wouldn’t make any sense, but although surprised, he refrained from saying anything rude. I’m a Goldback, I’m called Sage of the Forest for a reason, you know? That might not actually be relevant, but I have the brain capable of understanding others.
And so, the Baron explained to me, but even though I asked him a question, my words won’t get through him. And so, I had Elena ask for clarifications and began to inquire about things I was not sure about.
According to him, the “rank” that we’re about to examine is like a value indicating the status of a creature. For example, in my case, it seems I would be a Rank 5 or Rank 6 Goldback. And for Elena, she said she would be Rank 3 Normal Human.
Even if the rank is the same, the criteria may vary depending on the species, but generally speaking, having a higher number means they’re stronger. However, if there’s a significant difference in size, it seems a comparison can’t be made in such a straightforward manner.
Also, Dragons and Goldbacks were apparently on a different level of measurement. I don’t really understand though.
And apparently, blood is needed to measure this rank. Although they apologized for trying to take my blood without explanation, it seemed like they hadn’t given up yet, as when I looked at Elena, she just silently smiled at me, and at that moment, I realized resistance was futile.
My skin is very tough, so I had a tiny bit of hope that maybe that needle wouldn’t penetrate my skin, but as it turned out, it did. It might be because I had subconsciously considered allowing myself to be pierced.
After all, somehow, when he tried to pierce me with that needle for the second time, it seemed like I couldn’t be pierced anymore.
And so, I’m now waiting for the measurement results to be brought here, but as a way to pass time, I asked Elena about her rank, and she showed me some kind of card. There were letters written on it, but I could only make out the numbers and Elena’s name.
And so, I looked at it with Elena’s help and was surprised to see that it wasn’t what I had imagined.
I thought it would be something that would depict status with numbers, something that has a person’s vitality written as HP and their mana as MP, but in reality, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Well, I suppose it’s understandable. When you seriously think about it, HP isn’t something that can be numerically depicted. People die instantly if they were beheaded after all.
The card Elena had shown me was like this.
Elena=Gladysbalt (15) Female
Normal Human – Rank 3
Frontier Count’s Daughter
Mage (Fire, Light)
This is apparently also called a Guild Card. At the Adventurers’ Guild, it’s an Adventurer Card, at the Merchants’ Guild, it’s a Merchant Card, at the office where nobles and commoners register, it’s issued as a Noble Card or a Commoner Card, and it’s generally called the National ID Card.
However, there’s an exception to all of these, and that’s in the case of monsters like me. It seems like it’s called a Familiar Card for monsters like me. That’s what I’m waiting for right now.
This Guild Card apparently reveals name, gender, age, species, rank and additional information.
In Elena’s case, it seems to say that her rank is 3 and that she’s a mage. The higher the rank, the stronger the mage, but Rank 3 is apparently not the level of a student, but that of a knight or a new court mage.
Among the commoners, there are many whose lives end without even being able to promote a single rank. Even the Baron was surprised when he heard Elena’s rank, so he must be Rank 1 or 2.
I was curious about the highest rank, so I asked about it, but I was told he doesn’t know because he doesn’t have access to complete information on the Adventurers’ Guild’s side.
However, it seems that Rank 8 is apparently the highest among the nobles. I suppose this may also just be because of a lack of communication.
Now then, it seems that it’s about time for my Familiar Card to arrive, but the Baron told me that there seems to be a bit of a delay. I wonder if there’s something wrong again.
Just as I was thinking that, there was a knock at the door and the receptionist I first saw came in. In her hand was a tray on which something had been placed. Well, it was my Familiar Card.
[Excuse my intrusion. Chief, here you go.]
[Umu, thank you. You may leave.]
[Yes. Elena-sama, if you’ll excuse me.]
[Yeah. Thanks.]
As the staff member solemnly accomplishes her goal, she promptly leaves the room. The expression on her face was complicated though, as if she wanted to stay a little longer for some reason, but at the same time, she looked as if she wanted to leave immediately. However, she seemed relieved when she was told she could leave, so I guess it was better that she wasn’t here.
Elena is the eldest daughter of the Frontier Count after all, so it’s inevitable that she’ll face severe consequences if she does anything wrong. I think both the Baron and Elena knew that, and that’s why they allowed her to leave immediately.
[Well then, Elena-sama. This is, errr, Gorimatsu?-sama’s Guild Card. In the future, whenever you need to have it renewed, you can come to any government office, and we will assist you.]
[Yeah, I got it. It isn’t like we’d have it renewed often though.]
[Oog? Oog oog? (Arehh? You aren’t going to check it here?)]
As Elena sounded as if we were about to leave already, I curiously asked. Hearing my words, Elena quietly explained to me.
[Gorimatsu is considered part of my forces after all. It’s wise to keep some of my cards hidden from others, isn’t it? I don’t expect him to disclose information about you to others, but we can never know what might happen.]
But in that case, there’s one more thing I’m curious about.
[Oog ooga? (But they’ve seen your card though?)]
[Ahh, I don’t mean to be conceited, but I’m reasonably well-known in the Royal Capital. I’m a mage after all. It wouldn’t make much difference if it spreads further now. Besides, it’s not like that shows everything in my skill set.]
She had full confidence as she said this, but perhaps thinking it wasn’t suitable to discuss further here, she concluded our conversation and turned towards the Baron.
[Well then, we will be excusing ourselves here. If you need anything else, please inquire with the Lord’s mansion or the Royal Academy.]
[Ooga~~ (See ya~~)]
We’re not heading back to the house where Father is and check out my Guild Card.
I’ve been through a lot of strange and difficult things since I came to this world, but I’m finally being able to find out about myself huh. I’m looking forward to it.
After Elena and I left the government office, we got on a carriage and started moving back to the mansion.
