When I Reincarnated, I Became Even More of a Gorilla - 14
For some reason, we headed for the lord’s office under Elena’s lead. Of course, following her second is Misha with me in her arms, and the actual owner of the office, the girls’ father was last.
In my opinion, I think the girls’ father should be the most distinguished person here, but when I saw the way he presented himself as a doting parent, it seemed so natural that it’s quite mysterious.
[Oog? (Hey, Elena?)]
[What is it?]
[Oog oog. (What kind of place is this Gladysbalt territory?)]
We had some free time until we got to the office, so I asked Elena some questions about the territory. So far, all I’ve seen are large farmlands and strong-looking soldiers, and I’m wondering what else is unique about the place.
Elena is willing to answer my questions. That said, even though she’s still learning and wouldn’t know everything, I’m sure she knows more than I do, so I listened carefully.
[In our territory, or rather, in Father’s territory, the Gladysbalt territory, as you could see before, the citizens in the Capital City mainly engage in cultivating wheat in the agricultural lands outside the capital from morning till evening. Various crops are cultivated here, but the main one is wheat. There are some farmers who grow unusual crops, ah! That’s right. There are also farmers cultivating bananas, you know?]
Bananas!? Did you say bananas!?
Knowing the unexpected existence of my favorite food nearby, I unconsciously struggled out of Misha’s arms.
[Hey, Gorimatsu-chan! Stop moving around!]
[Oog. (Sorry.)]
Misha scolds me and I calm down, but I still give Elena a look as if urging her to continue with her story. Bananas are that important to me.
In my previous life, I was constantly told that I looked like a gorilla since I was a child, treated in a way that I would consider bullying nowadays, but I thought that even though they were joking, me getting all the free bananas made it so this gorilla face isn’t so bad.
For someone like me who loves bananas to the point where such bullying becomes insignificant, that information about getting bananas was precious.
[Hahaha, we’ll buy some bananas soon. Look, we’ve arrived while we’re talking.]
[Elena, Misha. From here on is Father’s room, so I hope you’ll leave things to me. Now, down you go. Come in!]
Since we already arrived, there are still many things I wanted to ask, but it can’t be helped. Trying to muster some dignity, the girls’ father led the way into the office, and despite finding it amusing, I concealed my thoughts and entered along with everyone.
Once inside, I sat down on a chair as Father suggested. My position ended up being on Misha’s lap. Elena and Misha are sitting opposite Father, and perhaps because no one’s sitting beside him, he looks somewhat sad.
Unn. I’m an adult. Let’s sympathize with his feelings.
I got off Misha’s lap and sat down next to him. Well, leaving aside whether it’s appropriate for me, the main topic of this conversation, to sit on Father’s side, it’s certainly better than being on a girl’s lap throughout the conversation.
Misha isn’t happy that I have moved, but Father and Elena seem impressed. I guess they find it curious that a monster like me could be that considerate.
Well, I’m apparently this Sage of the Forest, right? I could at least do that much.
[Oh my, I did hear about this being the case, you really are smart.]
[Ye. As I told Father, Gorimatsu could even make use of letters. I still don’t know why he uses the ladies’ language though.]
Elena told him I could make use of letters, but she just said that quite surprised me.
Eh!? I’m using ladies’ language? I didn’t know that.
And so, I pulled out the book from my magic bag that I’d been using as a textbook and showed it to the two of them.
[Oog ooga. (I found this and studied using this.)]
[Hmm? This is the elementary book for ladies’ education. How nostalgic. You used this book before too, right, Elena?]
[Right. Gorimatsu, I now know why you’re using that language. Fumu, Father. Do you have a book that you use? Could you lend those to Gorimatsu?]
As soon as Elena was able to solve the mystery of why I use such language, she thought of something and suggested what came to her mind to her father.
That’s certainly something I couldn’t have wished for.
[I’m fine with that, but you can speak telepathically with him now, right? Those things in your palms, those are the symbols of a familiar, right?]
[Yes. However, it doesn’t mean that he won’t need to communicate with someone in the future. It’s better to learn it just in case.]
[Oog oog. (I also want to study with that language.)]
[See! Gorimatsu says so too!]
Elena gains momentum and earnestly requests her father. From my perspective, I believe that learning the letters will undoubtedly be beneficial in my future gorilla life.
Father is a bit overwhelmed by her enthusiasm, but agrees to her request.
[I can’t understand what Sage of the Forest-dono is saying though. Unn, it’s fine. It seems like he can understand our language anyway. If he can understand words and letters, I’m sure it would also be of help to Elena.]
[Thank you very much!]
[However, if he’s going to learn it from the book, Elena would have to teach him, right? Can you do that?]
[Of course I can! I also taught my underclassmen, and I wouldn’t say I’m good at it, but I’d be alright!]
And so, it was decided that I would learn how to read and write, but before that, did he approve of me becoming his familiar?
[Oog oog? (Is he alright with me being a familiar?)]
[Hmm? Yeah, of course it’s alright.]
[What’s the matter?]
My question was answered by Elena, but Father didn’t understand what I said. Elena translated for me. Being able to read and write would be useful in situations like this.
[Gorimatsu seems to be bothered if it’s okay for him to be my familiar. Mainly about whether Father would approve of him, I think.]
[What, just that huh. I wouldn’t deny a familiar my daughter approves of. In the first place, the Sage of the Forest Goldback from our forest is well-known even in the Royal Capital as a rare and powerful monster. While your rarity may attract trouble, it’s not a reason to deny you.]
After laughing for a moment, a corner of his lips turns up to a ferocious grin.
[And if troubles come, it’s the Gladysbalt Frontier County’s way to devour and crush everything, including that trouble!]
[That’s right!]
[Yay!]
Just like their father’s smile, Elena and Misha also had ferocious smiles on their lips. One may wonder what a girl’s ferocious smile is like, but that’s the only way I can describe it.
Let’s not be deceived by the atmosphere in that cheer Misha’s raising here.
Well, for the time being, it seems I have been approved to be Elena’s familiar. I was kinda worried about it, but I’m glad it was decided so easily.
With this, I was safely welcomed into Gladysbalt Frontier Count’s family.
From what I’ve heard, it seems like Elena returned here when school was out, and she’ll have to go back to school relatively soon, but I wonder if I’m going to go with her?
Whatever it is, it seems like I would be able to help Elena out.
