- 1 - The Man Who Became a Gorilla
Chirp chirp, oog oog, kyakyakyak
I woke up in a place where I could hear many animal noises, not understanding the situation I was in.
When I try to figure out why my whole body hurts, I vividly remember yesterday’s events. Come to think of it, I was hit by a truck.
Where am I? I should have been struck by a truck in the city, not in a place like this.
Yes, not only were there animal noises, but there was even a forest before my eyes where animals might be, which made no sense.
Why am I in this place?
Realizing that I wouldn’t be able to respond effectively just in case something happened by sitting there, I put strength into my legs to stand up, but then I realized that something felt different. For some reason, my upper body feels heavy. My legs also feel short. Also, my body feel more energetic than usual?
Feeling something was wrong, I fearfully checked from the neck down. If there was a water source nearby, it would be a different story, but right now, there were spots in my body I could see before looking for such a place.
Now then, it’s about time I stop escaping reality and face it.
I look down and check my body.
(What the heck is this……?)
My body had lost none of its familiar skin color and was covered in thick black hair and seemed more muscular than usual.
Seeing it, I could imagine all parts of my body covered in fur that had become thicker, longer and darker, which is beyond my comprehension.
However, I endured it with the willpower and guts I had cultivated through my daily work at a black company, and then I reviewed my current situation.
It seems that I…… have actually become a gorilla!?
***
Fuuu…… Let’s calm down for the time being. There’s nothing to be gained by panicking here. Rather than panicking, it would be many times better to calm down and think things over here.
I haven’t checked my face yet, so I can’t be sure, but it’s possible that I’ve probably become an animal of the Primate order, the Gorilla genus.
Thinking of testing out my voice, I opened my mouth and vibrated my throat.
[GUOOOOOOOOOOOO!]
However, what came out of my mouth wasn’t a word, but a wild roar that could more accurately be described as a war cry.
I would like someone to explain to me in detail how all the words in my mind simply came out as “oog”, but if they just say it’s because I’m a gorilla, I’ll get angry, so I’ll just hold back here.
I mean, who’s even gonna answer my questions anyway?
For the time being, I know that I’ve become an animal that can’t speak human language, so that’s good.
If that’s the case, the first thing to check is what I should do.
Fortunately, it’s still daylight, so I’ve got some time, but I’m too unprepared to spend the night in the forest. It would be nice if there was at least some kind of cave, but I’ll just have to look for it.
[Oog (Alright.)]
I start to move with enthusiasm. It felt uncomfortable when I stood up earlier, so I ended up sitting again, but knowing I’m a gorilla, it’s no big deal.
If I clench my hands and thrust them forward, I could walk like a gorilla, so there’s no problem. This is the gorillas’ way of walking called knuckle-walking, and as expected, it seems to be easier to walk this way.
I start walking into the forest, weaving my way through the trees. It seems like this body is more flexible than when I was human. How should I say this…… It’s like I can think and act with almost no time lag.
The forest was quiet, with sunlight filtering through the tall trees, but if one looks at it another way, the fact that there wasn’t much around even though it was daytime felt a little eerie.
I go on with an oonga boonga, sometimes even grabbing branches and trying to move forward like they’re monkey bars. I look like a gorilla and act like a gorilla, but just as the saying says “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”, similarly, in this case, it’s more like “When you’re a Gorilla, do as the Gorillas do”.
[Oog oog, ooga (I can’t see a cave anywhere.)]
However, I couldn’t find a cave. To be honest, I thought finding a cave would be an easy task, but I was feeling hopeful that there might be a human settlement around.
Well, even if there were a human settlement, I don’t really think I could go there being a gorilla, so I changed my mind and that’s not relevant now.
As I was about to walk and search further, it appeared.
What…… is that?
