Gluttony Demon King with the Swampman ~A Man with No Magic Power Who Dreamed of Magic, Wielding Knowledge from His Past Life Through Steady Research and Hard Work to Become the Most Vicious Final Boss~ - Chapter 28: Great Oni Subjugation
Chapter 28: Great Oni Subjugation
“H-Haro-kun, are you okay…!?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks.”
I got blown away.
As the lightest one here, I went flying first, but Egiy clung to me and caught me.
The dust cleared.
Standing there was a goblin so huge it could rival a troll.
He was clearly the boss of this whole area.
“G-Goblin King…!”
“No way, that’s B-rank level!”
One of the adventurers shouted the name.
Goblin King. I knew the name, but this was my first time seeing one.
A monster that leads hordes of goblins and uses their terrifying reproductive power to build entire kingdoms—the literal king of goblins.
In ancient times there are even records of individuals that became “Demon Kings.” A pure lump of growth potential.
Now, what should we do?
I confirmed Noiche and Zaria up front were safe, exchanged a quick glance with them, and thought for a split second.
But completely ignoring us—
The first to move was the old dwarf, Zilmoza.
He didn’t even glance at the Goblin King and started walking toward the cave.
“Hey, old man! Where are you going!?”
“The cave. We’re going ahead. I have to dig up that thing. Aljan, Kaliyon, Egiy, and half the adventurers—come with me. The other half hold the goblins here.”
“Wha…!?”
The disciples’ eyes went wide in shock.
The adventurers looked half-convinced, half-doubting.
…What is “that thing”?
Magic ore, or something else entirely?
“What are you saying, old man!?”
“That thing could become a Demon King—it’s dangerous! We should go back and report to the guild right now!”
Despite the disciples’ reasonable protests, Zilmoza kept walking unsteadily toward the cave.
My eyes met Aljan’s eyes.
Zilmoza was clearly acting strange. We couldn’t let an old man in that state go alone.
Go with him—I signaled Aljan with my eyes. He nodded bitterly with a “sorry” look, and the disciples followed Zilmoza along with the other adventurers.
Then Zilmoza suddenly turned back and glanced at Egiy.
“I-I’m staying! I can’t leave Haro-kun and the others!”
“…Got it.”
With that final reply, Zilmoza and his group vanished into the darkness of the cave.
That left four of us here: me, Egiy, Zaria, and Noiche.
Facing us was the gigantic Goblin King and the swarm of underling soldiers pouring out from the bushes.
“…Hey Haro, what should we do? That dwarf grandpa is obviously weird.”
“I know. But we can’t just ignore this huge guy either.”
“Hmm, true!”
Zaria let out a deep sigh. Noiche stayed perfectly calm.
Oh well, no choice. Honestly, I didn’t feel like we could outrun something this size.
Even if we escaped, the blacksmiths and the other adventurers wouldn’t get off lightly.
Regardless of Zilmoza’s strange behavior—
The best option was still for us to deal with the Goblin King.
“How’re you two feeling?”
“Well, way easier than a dragon!”
“Same here.”
“Yeah, thought so.”
Surprisingly, none of us were shaken. No fear at all.
Seeing that, Egiy squeaked “Y-you guys are so reliable…!” and hid behind a tree.
And the battle began.
The Goblin King moved first.
He grabbed a whole uprooted tree in one arm and hurled it with tremendous force. The incoming mass would kill anyone it hit squarely.
We split left and right to dodge, and the turn passed to us.
“Rise, fire whale; at dawn, clear the darkness and light our journey here.”
Zaria stabilized her mind with faith in the fire whale sun and chanted.
In that instant, countless lines ran across the Goblin King’s body. Glowing red veins with brighter points here and there—her original magic that exposed the enemy’s weak spots.
Zaria attacked from the right, I from the left, both leaping at the Goblin King.
“Clothe.”
“Ricochet mark pinball, chain crown chainsaw.”
Zaria’s magic-clad sword flash and the chain crown chainsaw I fired from high in the air—
Both struck the weak points precisely and carved deep into his flesh. Great feedback, blood sprayed everywhere.
“It’s super effective!? Guess that dragon really was the weird one!”
“He’s surprisingly soft…”
The main reason was Zaria exposing the weak points, but even so, he was fragile. The Goblin King screamed in pain, writhed, and faltered.
The lesser goblins grew agitated.
That scream might have been a “command” to the soldiers.
The goblin army charged at us like an avalanche—
“Noiche!”
“On it.”
—that was when Noiche unleashed her magic.
It was the first time she had shown high-tier magic.
Normally she mowed everything down with machine-gun-like basic spells honed to perfection, but this time there were simply too many to handle that way—
So instead, it rained down from the heavens.
“Magnificent view, owl heaven descent.”
Suddenly the world turned pitch black. The sky that should still have been bright was covered in stars.
Countless black spears poured from the indigo night and pierced every single goblin in one sweep.
“No way… Noiche, you can even create a whole night sky…?”
Her magic loses power unless it’s night. I never thought she’d force night to happen.
The night sky cleared and the sun returned.
The ground, now lit again, was a sea of blood. That single attack had left almost all the small fry half-dead.
“Fuel efficiency is iffy, but there were too many for magic bullets. Nice one, Noiche—perfect!”
“Yeah, I can’t fire a second one.”
Noiche answered in her usual tone and flashed a peace sign.
The black spears from the sky had mercilessly stabbed the Goblin King too.
Zaria and I pressed the advantage on his reeling body and hammered slash after slash.
No scales, no ice—just skin hardened with magic.
Normal swords probably couldn’t scratch it, but with the weak points lit up where the magic flow was poor, it was a different story.
We sliced through the spots where the hardening was weak.
It cut beautifully—cut, cut, cut.
After who knows how many strikes, we finally severed the tendon behind his knee, and the Goblin King dropped to one knee.
“Ugh! My sword broke!?”
With a crisp snap, Zaria’s iron sword shattered. As expected, it was too brittle to channel magic.
“I’ll finish it.”
“Sorry! Thanks!”
As the kneeling Goblin King swung his massive arm low, Zaria and I used ricochet mark pinball to leap away—
“Chain crown chainsaw.”
—and here, for the first time, I threw the chain crown chainsaw.
The ink blade that had always spun at my left hand’s tip pierced straight through the Goblin King’s mouth.
High intelligence made him easier to fool.
He never expected it could fly—his resentful glare said exactly that as the ink punched through from throat to back, blowing a huge hole clean through him.
“S-seriously… Haro-kun, that was way too easy…!?”
“Whoa! Haro, nice one! That was brutal though!”
“Perfect surprise attack.”
Everyone’s good at praising—I didn’t mind it at all.
More importantly, I proved I could beat something stronger even without my right arm. That builds confidence.
In the shower of blood, the Goblin King collapsed without much fuss.
—Thus, the monster that might have become a Demon King died.
But then the ground shook.
Even though the Goblin King no longer moved, the tremor came from deep underground—
No, from deep inside the cave we were heading toward.
Something was coming from the darkness.
