- Chapter 36: An Image Change With The Help of a Normie
Episode 36 – An Image Change With The Help of A Normie
It was the day before my date with Rin, so I decided to prepare for it.
Then, an unforeseen circumstance arose.
I’ve realized that I don’t have any decent clothes to wear.
“You have got to be kidding me…”
I just wore a jersey everywhere I went.
To my part-time job? Jersey.
When I go outside? Jersey
Even I know it’s not a good idea to wear a jersey on a date.
I don’t want to ruin her reputation by going on a date with her in a jersey.
So, that’s why I’m here picking my clothes.
“I don’t know.”
I picked up the clothes and tried them on.
Then I stared at the mirror.
No matter how many clothes I try on, I can’t tell.
Maybe it looks good on me, maybe it doesn’t.
“Which one should I buy.”
I check the price tag on one of the shirts.
‘3000 yen’
I have no idea if that’s expensive or cheap.
Moreover, the clerks are also talking to me.
I wish they would leave me alone.
Well, I haven’t been able to choose yet.
I should have studied magazines and such earlier so I could have known what would be in fashion.
The Goddess isn’t here today.
She would definitely be a good advisor if she were here, though I would feel embarrassed if I wore the clothes she picked out for me on our date.
Rin is not here so it’s my chance!
“Huh…”
All I did was sigh even though I tried to be enthusiastic about it.
“Huh? What are you doing, Towa?”
“You’ve got the wrong guy.”
I tried to run away from the familiar voice.
“Hey, don’t run away!”
He grabbed me by the shoulders; I failed to escape.
That power…
This is the power of a man who is perfect in everything.
“Huh? Wakamiya isn’t here today?”
“Yeah, first of all, contrary to popular belief, Wakamiya-san is not always with me. And second, she’s got some business to attend today.”
“Hmm.”
“Kenichi and Fuji-san, aren’t you on a date right now? Go have fun and don’t worry about me.”
“It’s just the two of us, but it’s not a date.”
“Yeah, you know, we are together on weekends.”
The two were so stylish that they looked like they could be interviewed on the street.
Ah, amazingly gorgeous.
And here I looked like a suspicious-looking guy in a jersey, searching for new clothes.
So this is a stratified society.
“What are you doing, Towa?”
“As you can see, I’m picking out clothes.”
“Towa?”
“Umm.”
They scanned me from head to toe, carefully analysing me.
Then they both shrugged their shoulders as if disappointed in me.
“Kotone, we’ve got to do something.”
“Kenichi, I’m in.”
“What? You’re both…”
They both had looks of determinations on their faces
They faced each other and nodded in agreement.
What sparked this drive within them?
“I’ll get ready at home; I’ll join you when I’m done.”
“I’ll see you later.”
She ran off, leaving Kenichi behind.
She’s fast.
“Now, we’re going to choose clothes. What do you think is the most important thing in fashion?”
“Shirt! No, pants? Well, it’s somewhere around there?”
“You don’t get it, do you? It’s your feet!”
“You mean shoes? I thought sneakers and sandals were fine.”
“What?”
“What’s with that look in your eyes? Looks like they have seen something terrible.”
“What are sandals, anyway?”
“Flip-flops?”
Kenichi’s mouth opened wide as he stood there motionless.
“Are you alright?” I asked as I waved my hands in front of his face.
“Did you get a critical hit? Well, that’s divine retribution for you. Did the prayers of the unworthy men of the world come true?” [TN: It’s a reference with a game]
“I’m not dead! Don’t make that declaration!”
“Well, that’s too bad.”
“I forgot how illiterate you are when it comes to fashion. It’s my fault, I should have known better.”
“I won’t deny it, but that’s a terrible thing to say.”
Even I can tell that my outfit is out of fashion.
I never thought about going on a date with someone before.
“Towa, what’s your budget?”
“I’m not sure. With my part-time job right now, I want to be frugal. Also Kenichi…”
“Hmm? What are you doing standing there for?”
“Thanks for the help the other day. And thanks again for today.”
“Haha, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Come on, let’s go!”
After that, Kenichi was selecting clothes for me to wear until evening.
He kept on saying, “This doesn’t look right.” To be honest, I felt like a dress-up doll with the amount of clothes he made me try on.
◇◇◇
“Hey Kenichi, why am I here?”
“Why? We’re all here for the same reason.”
“Shut up, Tokiwagi-kun. You’re distracting me.”
“Yes ma’am.”
The sound of buzzing passes through my head.
And each time it passes, my hair would scatter on the floor.
“This needs to be taken care of properly.”
“I’m glad Kotone’s home is a beauty parlor! Thank you for letting us use your place.”
Fuji stopped cutting my hair.
It was because Kenichi was stroking her head.
Her pupils dilated, her cheeks flushed, and her mouth opened. She looked happy.
“Can you two do those kinds of things after I leave?”
“Boomerang” [ ED: “Boomerang“. A Japanese slang. It refers to a hypocritical criticism that is thrown at others but also applies to the person who makes the criticism.]
“Dude. I mean, I have no idea what I’m talking about…”
“Damn you.”
“I hope you get kicked by a horse.”
You guys are really close.
Even the cursing fits perfectly.
Is it possible for them to be so synchronized even if they say they’re dating?
I’m not sure how long they’ve been together, but if they’re this close, they must have been dating for a long time.
“Speaking of which, doesn’t Tokiwagi-kun cut his own hair? It’s unbalanced, messy, and disappointing.”
“I just look in the mirror and cut it off. I’m an amateur, so I can’t help but feel disappointed when I’m cutting.”
“What makes you think you can cut?”
“Isn’t that anything but scissors? You can easily use them.”
“”Huh.””
We both sigh!
“Kotone, you know how disappointing this is, right?”
“Yeah, this is serious.”
“What’s with those pitiful looks?”
He looks at me as if he’s looking at a disappointment.
I don’t have a choice, do I?
I hate going to get my hair cut. I don’t like talking to the hairstylist.
“That’s right. Kenichi, take that.”
“Oh, that’s it! I thought I’d be told, it’s already there.”
“Really. Fufu~, Kenichi is the best!”
“Well, I know what Kotone is thinking.”
“I’m the same…”
The two of them look at each other with blushing cheeks.
The mood might have been better, if I wasn’t here.
“I envy them.”
I muttered with a sigh and closed my eyes.
I’m going to quietly wait until they’re done.
I can’t stand to watch the two of them flirt.
It’s embarrassing.
“Hey, Towa. You can keep your eyes closed.”
“What’s with the normie thing?”
“Have fun tomorrow.”
Kenichi knew that was going to be embarrassed about tomorrow’s date.
“Shut up…” I muttered and nonchalantly acted towards Kenichi.
