For I Am A Side Character - 91: Seraphina Greets Herself to Class-C
Its been a while since Seraphina had a job other than raiding a dungeon or studying a dragon’s autonomy, but thankfully right now, she finally got the break she always desired. Far from the dangers of a dungeon, and now here in an academy filled with an array of students she can lead into becoming better hunters for the future.
Now, first impressions are important. So without hesitation, she greeted them with her own sense of character that showed she was open minded.
A big smile and open arms.
“Hi kids, so you must be the one who contacted me in joining your activities.” she said as she looked very eager to know the students.
“Hello Mrs. Drakonis, it’s a pleasure to have you with us.” said Jessica as she greeted Sera first.
“Hmm, you must be Jessica Young, its pleasure to meet you as well and please call me Sera instead. Its easier than way. ” she said as happily greeted her back.
“You know me?” asked Jessica.
“Of course. After all, your family is one of the most prestigious merchant families that is currently on the rise. ” she said, clearly showing praise to Jessica’s family.
“T-thank you.” said Jessica.
“Hmm, and I’ve also done some digging on your identities.” she said as she looked to the others.
And one by one, she called to their names.
“You must be Zelisha, I heard you had a talent for alchemy, that talent would be extremely useful in a dungeon raid, especially in a long term one.”
“Thank you.” said Zelisha.
“And you’re Marilyn, basing off from your outfit, you’re a support mage…interesting.” she said as she tried assuming her element.
“I’m mostly a light mage.” said Marilyn.
“Ah, I see. Although Light mages aren’t as common as the other kinds mages are, in my experience, light mages are always recommended. They are a well-rounded piece in a party, both acting as a support and possibly even as the front force against certain elements of monsters.”
“I see, well I do know a bit of healing magic, and my attacks have been improving lately.” said Marilyn as she was proud of her own growth.
“Good, now you must be Thors.” said Sera as she looked to a boy who was on the verge of looking like a man from how big his muscles were. It was strangely bigger than usual.
“Hmm.” Thors could only nod his head in affirmation.
Truth of the matter is, this was all that Thors did in his training. Increasing both his size and strength to accommodate his ability as a man carrying a heavy hammer.
“Now, you must be Tony.” she said as she looked at the main support of the team. Tony was the silent kid…barely saying anything, but was known enough to be quite the resourceful fellow. His skill has already been tested by Soril himself in the past week. So his role was vouched really well.
Moving forth, she turned to Kenji who made the first move by raising his hand for a handshake.
“Kenji, right?” she asked.
“Yes, I’m the representative of this group, so anything you want to know, I’ll be there to answer it.” he said confidently.
“Hmm, glad to know.” she said.
And finally she moved to the last person to greet her.
Knowing how she did a proper background check on the rest of the students, it was no different for her to look into the last one. Knowing each strength and character they possessed to which she can use to her advantage in the event, she knew the last student to have quite the history in the academy.
And that was the suspicious part. Because before he had any time in the academy, he was just like any other civilian in the city. Apart from his talents in large mana pool in his past records, nothing so special stood out from him.
And yet as he arrived at the academy, his growth suddenly sprouted out of nowhere.
It hasn’t even been half a year and yet the rank he achieved was simply outstanding. From an F-rank to that of a official B-ranker, no one would doubt that he was a hidden gem. So Sera was extremely curious about this boy, and now she finally had the chance ot see for herself just who this person was.
“And finally, you must be Soril.” she said as she acted very natural-like.
But the moment she raised her hand for a shake, she meet his eyes.
“…”
Calm…too calm for her own comfort.
As an S-rank, one who gained an incredible amount of experience fighting in different dangerous situations…she knew just how well it is to trust her instincts in a matter of a situation.
And that instinct simply played itself to fondly in this moment.
Because the moment she meet eyes with Soril, her heart literally skipped a beat. At an instant, she paused at the simple stare of his gaze, and Soril could hear it…he could hear the change of her own heartbeat.
“…Are you okay?” he asked in his calm tone.
“…” and in response, Sera twitched unnaturally.
She stared at his figure and knew just when to speak of danger…but she kept it to herself.
‘This boy…is it an illusion?…no it can’t be. I’m not feeling any sort of magic right now in the air…so this boy really is just that…this boy is on another level compared to the kids in this academy.’ she thought.
And the one reason behind that evaluation was the pure killing intent behind Soril’s eyes. No matter how much you try to cover it behind a calm gaze, intentions are always spilled simply because you grew up to be around some very dangerous environment. You can’t hide the way you’ve lived your life.
From one person who lives a life of danger to another, Sera just knew the danger behind this boy’s life.
Feeling the tension, she tried keeping her face together and soon enough, she gathered herself well enough and she turned to him with the same calm cheerful smile as before.
“I’m fine.” she said.
“Really?” asked Soril as he was a bit surprised seeing as how, her heartbeat was starting to calm down.
‘Hmm, professionals really know how to keep it all together.’ he thought.
And from there, Sera raised her hand and attempted to shake his hand properly. And from there, Soril cautiously accepted it.
And the moment they felt each other’s grip, they knew instantly;
‘This is the touch of a boy who has experienced death up-front…’ she thought as she can tell from the feel of his spirit and will…the boy has not lived a normal life.
‘This is the hand of a mage who fought in great perils inside a dungeon.’ he thought as he can tell simply by the calluses of her hands. This woman has lived a rather adventurous life.
And from there, they understood each other’s hardship.
“I’m Soril.” said Soril as he introduced himself to the Guild leader.
“I know.” she said as she smiled knowingly.
“Ahem.” said Jessica as she pretended to cough, seeing as how their handshake lasted about five seconds.
“…Hmm, it seems this group is a rather promising bunch.” she said as she smiled at all of them.
“We hope you’ll guide us well in this event, Ms. Sera.” said Soril.
“Trust me kids, I’ll lead you guys to first place without a doubt.” she said as she smiled confidently.
After the introduction with each of the Guilds and groups, the academy gave time for each of the groups to show their worth in front of the Guild Leaders.
By showing their capabilities to the Guild leaders, the Guild leaders in return can evaluate the cards they are given with in this event. Those cards being the students.
It was a personal time given for the students to bond with the guild leaders. so for the most part, they visited the training grounds in the attempt to see their skills.
For Class-A, it was no surprise to find that Cloni Suvack had a rather amazing array of students lined up before him. Mostly, the three main candidates were pushing his favorability, that being Jason, Audrey and Jessabelle. It was not a joke ot say that each of these three could handle their own in a difficult dungeon.
For Class-B, Thoran Stonefist was rather interested in the sight of two particular students before him. Those being John Bishop and Conner O’niel. Their raw paw and fierce fighting spirit had the potential to win the event.
For Class-C, Ms. Sera was quite taken aback by how well sync the five candidates were. Those being Zelisha, Marilyn, Thors, Jessica and Soril. From the way they were fighting, she could tell just how well they complimented their skills even without the orders of some leader. And it was especially noticed in the two, Jessica and Soril who fought as if they instantly knew when and what to do in certain situations. It was as if, they have already recognized each other’s skill to a point that no words were needed to be said.
But from the scene of their actions, Sera knew instantly that Soril was holding back. Unlike the others, he barely even broke a sweat and his eyes remained calm…all to a point where he was even monitoring the others as they fight. Even at this state, he looked after his group. When a problem occurred, even without Sera’s call or notice, Soril quickly approached the problem and fixed it.
“You’re a bit behind Tony, make sure to not waste your buffs on the others unless necessary. Seeing as how low your endurance is compared to the others, try applying the buff to your own body. You need to keep up with us to continue on supporting us even if it means costing your own mana to yourself. Remember, you are not a tool, but a member of a group.”
“O-okay.” Tony nodded and went on with the exercise.
Watching this, Sera knew Soril had the capacity to become a leader…
Moving on with class-D, Miles Miller saw the state of his own group and tried his best fixing the errors of their actions. Compared to the rest, it seems like Class-D was the one who had the lowest chance of succeeding the event. But he can’t do anything other than play his cards right.
While Class-E on the other hand simply listened to the wise words of the wise old man. Not a lot was made in their group. It seems as though they had already given up before the event has even started, seeing as how calm and listless they were.
From then on, the day was nearing its end. But before it was completely over, the academy announced the first event.
[Dungeon Resource Liberation Event.]
From the title given, it was an event where each group was to undertake a dungeon with a potential resource value. To complete this event, one must secure the dungeon boss room without interfering with the dungeon boss itself.
There are only three objectives to this event.
*Defeat all marked monsters
*Secure the Resource Spots
*Collect a limited value of that resource.
Once the group collects resource needed they must exit the dungeon and give the resources as proof of the completion of the event.
But aside from this simple objective, there are also other ways to win the first event.
One is to kill the boss dungeon from a rival group before the rival group could complete the resource collection process.
And the other way to win is to completely eliminate all the candidates of that group before they could pass on their resources as proof.
The event only happens once a week, so once this event is over, the second event will occur by next week.
Reading the rules, the guild leaders had a night to plan a way to win this event. The event is placed in a real dungeon, not a simulated one, so the risk are very high when a student is injured.
