For I Am A Side Character - 87: Guilds to Choose
About a week has passed since the announcement for the Interim Guild Faction event, and as one would expect by now, for each class in this years batch of first years, seven candidates should have been already chosen to participate.
From what I know, Class-A already decided on their members so did Class-B, Class-D and Class-E. the only class that didn’t get to fully decide was our class. Class-C.
And the one person to blame for all of this was…
[Kimchi.]
With how much time has passed, we should have already chosen the full set by now, but as of the moment, for some reason he’s being quite difficult.
Mostly to me for some reason.
He’s chosen 5 candidates already including himself. Those being, Jessica, Thors, Marilyn, Zelisha, a classmate of ours who was proficient in healing and support magic, his name was Tony Caesar, and him our class representative, [KFC].
The only last member now was to be decided between me, the current strongest student in class-C against another classmate of mine, named Elly who was proficient more or less proficient in the use of a sword. Her level was mostly the same as the others, so I was kind of worried how [Kebab] would choose.
“Hmm, now let me see here…first of all, I can agree that Soril is a strong candidate…but he has some qualities that Elly simply surpasses him in.” he said as he looked between the two of us standing in front of him with doubtful expressions.
“Oh come on Kenji, why not be reasonable here. If you don’t pick Soril, We’ll just have to have a democratic vote here.” said Jessica who was getting annoyed by his attitude.
“Please Jessica, calm down. We need to have a proper evaluation here. On the first hand, he may be the strongest candidate we can have on our team, with enough strength to place him on the 4th rank…but Elly simply has something on hand that could possibly bring us our win.” said Kiwi as he looked extremely confident.
“Eh, and what’s that?” asked Zelisha who was also starting to get impatient.
“Elly has one property of arsenal that simply demolishes Soril’s current achievement. And that Arsenal is her womanly charms!!!” he said so proudly.
“Don’t be an idiot!! you idiot!!” said Jessica who gripped her fist so tightly, she was on the verge of pummeling [K-obama] on the head.
“Hmph! Let me present you the differences! First off, Elly is cute, and Soril is not!! look at him!! look at how smug and stupid his face is!!!” he said so proudly.
“…” I was a bit speechless how stupid this conversation was…but I let it play on.
“Second case is that Elly has one charm in her that simply takes my vote to a whole other level.”
“And what’s that?” asked Jessica.
“She has Boobs- Kughk!” without even finishing his statement, he was pummeled by none other than Elly who decided to sit back down on her own desk.
“You sure about this Elly?” I asked as I looked at her from afar.
Elly could only nod as she then looked at our stupid representative with dagger-like stares.
“Thanks Elly, Anyway, its clear that I’m going to represent as the final member, so lets end this topic now and move on to the next issue at hand.” I said as I took on the podium for leading the meeting.
“Is it about what Guild leader we should pick to lead our group?” asked Marilyn.
“Exactly, now we’ve already posted a few names that was favorable to some of you and you gave out 7 guilds, but unfortunately we’re only left now with three candidates since we took too much time deciding which guild can help us and the other class took those guilds away.”
From there, Marilyn helped me out by putting the names of some available guilds on the board.
The First Guild was called the [Under-Oath guild] which was renowned for their accomplishments in being able to have a success rate of completing B-ranked dungeon with a 98% chance of success and a 70% chance of success with a A-ranked dungeon. They only had 6 records of going against an S-ranked dungeon and mostly what they got out of it was failure. Each attempt to an S-ranked gate lead to their failure. It’s a typical guild with a good name and a good reputation with how 17% of the students graduating from the academy goes to this guild. And since this guild only has a branch here in Diamond Reef City, their reputation against any other guild was weak,
The second Guild was named the [Dragon-Order Guild] with a record of about 35 raids in a S-ranked dungeon with its success being about only 30%. they have a success rate of about 89% against an A-ranked dungeon and a 100% success rate in a B-ranked gate down to an F ranked dungeon. Their pretty well known in the public, with how not only are they stationed in one continent but they have 16 branches of their guild put out across the world, this explains why their record on hunting S-ranked dungeons were high, but still its success rate was small. As for their reputation, its pretty well-known to take in hunters with or without an education. So even if one doesn’t come from a renowned academy, as long as one is capable, they well take one in.
The last guild was named the [Hawk-Fest Guild] who were known for their renowned mercenary work. With over 7 branches put out across the world, they have been known to successfully raid 10 S-ranked dungeons with no fail whatsoever. Their success rate for hunting A-ranked dungeons down to F-ranked dungeons are always successful, but their records are always low since they rarely ever take on a quest to raid a dungeon if its not worth their time. They only take on dungeons with a high return profit. And since they rarely ever go to a dungeon, they are mostly hired as a mercenary group to protect merchants since this kind of work usually gives in a high return with less risk, making them known as a mercenary guild rather than a dungeon raiding guild.
As for the rest of the guilds picked by the other classes, Class-A choose the Black-Rose Guild who were known as the largest guild here in the Diamond Reef City. With one of the greatest guilds built, it should have been impossible for the academy to even reach an agreement, but because of Audrey Yagami’s influence to this guild, being that she is a part of it, the Guild complied to attending the event as Class-A’s leading idol.
For Class-B, they choose a rather infamous guild known as the Giant’s Guild where it was known to have been lead by a rather violent hunter. Knowing that Tyen-Lin wont be participating in this event, puts me at ease.
As for Class-D, I wasn’t surprised since I already knew of who was to lead this group…or at least I suspected it to happen.
From what Jessica told me, the Armadillo Knight’s Guild was the one to participate in handling Class-D’s group, meaning that Mile’s Miller, brother of Juel Miller was the one who volunteered to take action. This wasn’t supposed to happen though, because originally Miles died in the story and Juel was unable to participate properly I nthe event due to his lost, and in his brother’s stead, a rther plain guild was choosen to lead them ahead in the event.
But because of Miles survival, he became class-D’s current leader. And I’m somewhat worried of what’s about to happen from here on out.
As for Class-E, they were able to hire a retired Hunter who was about 57 years old. I don’t really have that much information on this old man, but seeing as how they were able to hire him, he must have been a Guild Leader once since the academy accepted their proposal.
Now then, going back to us, the Class-C, we were left with picking one of the three guilds to represent us, and one might think that if all you need is a Guild Leader, Jessica might have been a possible candidate, but there were restrictions to this event, and mostly because we needed an experienced hunter. Jessica couldn’t fill that gap.
After a long debate, the class decided on choosing the Dragon-Order Guild. Although I didn’t really had an opinion about them, I simply went with the flow. As long as the story proceeded, I didn’t really cared all that much about who was going to lead our interim guild.
When I asked about their reasons, Jessica said that she had a good feeling about them because of how experienced they were in the matters of raiding a guild. The Hawk-Fest Guild wasn’t really in favor because of how biased their experience was as a mercenary guild and the Under-Oath Guild simply didn’t give that much of an impression to any of the members.
Anyway, when it was decided, we passed our form to Sgt. O’riley and our class ended. After a while, lunch arrived and Jessica and I decided to invite all of the members who will participate in the event to come eat together to discuss the events of the future’s activities.
Although it wasn’t said what the events were, eating together as a group can help bring our camaraderierie together especially with how this is the first time we’re eating with Tony Caesar and our representative, [Korea].
Usually its just us five. Me, Jessica, Thors, Marilyn and Zelisha, but now with an added two other members, we decided to eat at the canteen this time.
The moment we all sat down, it was time to think of our plans.
But as we did, we all brought our lunches…or at least everyone else did, my lunch was with Jessica who made my lunch as well. She carried two lunch boxes, one she placed in front of herself and the other, in front of mine.
As she did this in front of everyone, all of a sudden, a rough cough was heard at the end of our table. It was Tony Caesar who was shocked to find that Jessica was bringing me lunch.
“W-what’s going on?” he asked as he was a bit too surprised by this.
“…Didn’t you know?” asked our Representative, [Kingpin] as he looked to Tony with a rather annoyed expression.
“Know what?” asked Tony.
“Their Dating, you dumbass.” he said.
“…Oh, huh. I thought it was only a rumor. I didn’t expect for it to be actually real.” he said.
“So you guys are finally coming out with it?” asked Marilyn as she turned to Jessica with curious eyes.
“When did you decided to make it public?” asked Zelisha.
“Wait, you guys knew?!” asked Jessica as she was a bit surprised about this.
“It was a bit obvious, although at first it was hard to tell whether or not you were just friends with benefits or less than that.” said [Kanye]
“Eh?!”
“Hey now, don’t assume that far ahead. Its obvious that Jessica is a bit obsessive, so its hard to imagine that she didn’t force herself to Soril first, but lets take into consideration that Soril did take action first. Maybe she took this to her advantage.” said Thors who was drinking his high-protein concentrated flavored juice-box.
“…so I’m curious, who made the first move then?” asked Marilyn as she was excited to know. She specifically turned to me for an answer.
“I’m not going to answer that. It’s a personal thing.” I said as I casually opened the lunch box that Jessica made for me.
As for Jessica, she was too beet red in embarrassment to even say anything.
From here on, the group decided not to pry on our relationship and decided to start eating.
But as soon as we all started to eat, I suddenly started hearing a group of footsteps coming closer and closer into our direction. I stop moving my hands altogether and decided to turn behind me. And as I did, the footsteps also stopped altogether.
And from what I saw, it was none other than Class-D who stood stiff in front of me. All seven participants of Class-D.
And the one leading this class was none other than Oliver Cracker, the 9th ranked student and beside him was Rudy Tumble who was ranked 10th and Juel Miller. The other four were also from class-D but I didn’t know their names.
With them standing in front of us right now, I can’t really imagine just what would happen right now, but I decided to let my presence known.
As I slowly let go of my spoon, I decided to turn around and face them up front. And with it, came a change in my presence all to quickly.
Like a cold hand that was able to grab hold of their own throats, I decided to show my dominance.
“!!?”
“?!”
“!?”
The three were a bit shocked by my stance, and to it, I gave a cold gaze.
“What do you want?” I said in a rather calm but cold manner.
From the way they reacted, it seems that they were afraid all too easily.
And soon enough, Jessica decided to stand by me as she looked as irritated as I was with how they disturbed our meal. She was a bit curious of their arrival, so she too asked a question.
“…We don’t have all day.” she said.
One would ask why we were acting like this… and it was simple.
It was to show hierarchy.
Although it was a bit unpleasant, with how the event was coming in close, we couldn’t act like as how we normally would. If we did, we would be looked down upon and be labeled as pushovers, and our entire group didn’t like that one bit. So acting tough right now gave the impression that we were more than just a group of students…we were Class-C.
