For I Am A Side Character - 83: Back to the Academy with a Young Teenager's Mind
As random of a day it was for a certain red-headed mage, she found herself standing in the back of the academy school. This particular place was simply known for its renowned teen-like experience of being able to confess to one’s interest and win his heart. Simply put, the environment in the back of the school was designed to look very romantically inclined.
With two trees misshapen to look like a heart and with its bushes blooming with pink flowers to symbolize the femininity of the atmosphere, paired with a small lake that was home to a pair of geese, this place simply spoke of opportunity to confess one’s feeling to another.
And here…Jessabelle was simply blushing as she unconsciously found herself in such a place.
‘W-what am I doing here?!’ she thought as she started feeling nervous for some unknown reason.
With her heart beating twice as fast and how flustered her cheeks were, with the pairing of how uneasy her legs were from all the shaking, she would have assumed that she was about to fight a beast of great difficulty…but that wasn’t the case for this situation.
Because as she waited, all of a sudden, a certain man walked into the very same place she was and he was found carrying a box of chocolates and a bouquet of red roses that resembled her fiery hair.
From the look of his face, she can tell just how nervous he was…with how his eyes darted from left to right, not making eye contact to her directly, and how his heart was beating so loud that she could faintly hear it…
When she look at his face, she recognized just who this person was…and from it, she found herself smiling so softly…
‘…’ she couldn’t help but take a small step forward and lift her hands to caress his nervous face.
“…Are you finally going to confess?” she asked as her face turned even more flustered than before.
And in return, the boy who stood before her, softly reached out to her caressing hand and he felt the warm embrace of her care.
With how his dark-blue eyes reflected her face, and how his dark blue hair swayed against the winds…his expression who seemed ever so confident now that he was able to reach for her touch…
He spoke.
“…Jess, I-”
But before he could say anything, Jessabelle found herself awake because of the alarm clock ringing beside her bed.
“…”
*Ring**Ring**Ring*
“…”
*Ring**Ring**Ring*
“…”
*Ring* *Ring* *Ri-*
*Crash!*
Without a second thought of it, the alarm clock was destroyed by her fiery rage and she looked ever so distraught and embarrassed by what she has just dreamed about.
She then proceeded to hold a pillow over her face and screamed ever so loudly by what she has just seen.
‘…aghhhhhhhhhhhh!!’
By reacting just like what every girl would for dreaming about their prince charming, she reacted in a different way.
For she reacted because she was in denial.
‘What the fuck was that!!!’ she thought to herself as she remembered every bit of that dream in her head.
Over and over again, she felt just how light-hearted she was in that moment.
And being in denial, she ran out of her bed and into the bathroom as quick as she could. And without doubt, she drowned herself in the water-filled sink, making sure that she forgot every inch of that dream…
Over and over again, she would dunk her head into the sink whenever she would see a glimpse of that dream even once.
This took for about twenty minutes until she finally left the bathroom soaking wet from head to toes in her pajamas.
And right after, she crashed straight into her carpet-filled floor as if she was past-out, only to be called out ot her father who walked past her bedroom.
“You’re going to be late Jessabelle, hurry up and get dressed for school.” he said as he continued walking past her.
“Ughh…”
As she laid on her floor, she just remembered that today was the day that school was finally back.
And to her less expressive intentions…she pushed herself up and made her way to her closet to get dressed.
Hours later, she found herself seeing the school gates upfront as she was riding at the back of her luxury car.
And as she got off, the first person to ever greet her was Jason who was confidently found swinging his sword in the middle of the school.
“You’re still doing that?” she asked as she looked extremely tired early in the day.
“This is just one of the training exercises I have to do in the day. Doing 10,000 perfect down-swings is just the first thing I have to complete before moving on to the next exercise.” said Jason as he looked extremely confident.
“…Mind explaining to me why you’re doing this again?” she asked as she couldn’t bother to remember the reason for him doing this exercise.
“Don’t you remember our last raid in the dungeon? It turns out I’ve barely opened up the categories of skills inside my original arcane swordmanship. If I want to grow stronger, I need to open finish up the quest set up by the book. Didn’t Audrey said that this was a rare occurrence in a skill book? What did she say it was again? ”
“Hmm, I think it was an awakening. It only happens to the people who are truly in sync with their skill books. Your lucky to have been able to actually activate the awakening of your book. Audrey said that only 1% of the people who owns a skill book actually get to activate it.”
“Right…along with this, I also have to train my birth skill.” he said as he looked bothered by saying those words.
“Oh yeah, how well are you improving in that area?” she asked as she remembered the blue flames that Jason was able to produce to show to Jessabelle and Audrey.
“Its not going great. Its like you said, birth skills are a mystery. I’m barely able to produce it even just once. And right now, I’m still the same as before I got it. If only there was a person who was extremely knowledgeable when it comes to birth skills. Like a professor or something.” he said.
“Well, my Dad can help, but I don’t think he has the time for that.” said Jessabelle as she knows just how busy her father has been recently, as he tended to his own daughter at controlling her own birth skill.
“Oh well, I’ll take this one step at a time.” he said as he continued swinging his sword.
All of a sudden, as Jessabelle was watching Jason swing his sword, a motorcycle suddenly drives into the school and parks right near the entrance along with the other parked vehicles.
“!?”
There, Jessabelle could see one person riding the motorcycle. A person who was wearing the same uniform as the other students but he had a helmet over his head. It indicated that he was a student as well.
As he took it off, Jessabelle was shocked to find out who this person was.
With how sweaty his face was from the heat of the sun and how tight his helmet was, she couldn’t help but be mesmerized by his sweaty features.
She had to swallow her own spit in the nervousness of it all and become flustered simply from the sight of his face.
“Oh, its Soril.” said Jason as he was surprised by his entrance as well.
But as Jason was talking, it didn’t take long for Jessabelle to simply run away from that area.
‘Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!Fuck!’ cussing as she went, she hated how this was making her feel.
and as she ran, she found a restroom and decided to go in.
With no else in the restroom, she turned on the faucet and started splashing herself awake and back to normal.
With water splattering everywhere, she was as wet as this morning. but even with her uniform being drenched in water, that wasn’t a problem because soon after she used her magic to dry herself off in just minutes.
“Fuck!!” she said as she screamed one last time at the mirror. But even as she did, she could still see how flustered she was.
“What is wrong with me!!?” she said in a fit of rage.
‘I don’t get it….I genuinely don’t get it…why is he making me feel this way?! Why him!!?’
As she got a good look at herself, she remembered back to her dream…
How it made her heart flutter…how heated it made her in a different sense than what magic could…how she brought a soft smile in front of him simply from his appearance…
And back to it more, she remembered when Jason told her that she actually likes him…but she denied it…
She hated the idea of it…
But now as time passes, and as the summer was finally over, she could no longer control her feelings…
One way or the other, she has to do something about this.
‘…I have to do something about this.’
As she shook herself back to gain some sort of resolve, she walked out of the bathroom…but as she did, she suddenly bumped into someone.
“ah!” she said as she fell to the floor.
“Are you okay?” asked a voice who she quickly recognized.
As she looked up, she saw him…the boy who made her crazy for God knows why…
And not long after this, her breathing suddenly turned heavy and her sweat suddenly dripped in the nervousness of it all.
As this boy reached his hand to help her back up, she unconsciously reached out to receive his.
And as the boy pulled her back up, she could only look ever so flustered to a point that she gripped her fist tight to control her emotions.
“Kh-…Khyaa!!” and without even takign into account, she swung her fist and struck the boy straight on his face.
*Thud!*
But to her surprise, she meet a heavy hand.
“!?” she was surprise to find that the boy was able to catch her fist this time.
“Umm…is this how its going to be every time we meet each other? You punching me in the face?” he asked as he looked quite worried.
“Y-you idiot!!!” she screamed as all of a sudden, five large flame spears appeared at her back and struck the boy all over the place.
Giving her the chance to escape and gather herself properly.
But from her attacks that caused quite the damage in the school hallway, with how the smoke was everywhere, it was found that the boy was unscathed by her attacks.
“Geez…whats up with her?”
Not long after, Jason came by looking ever so distraught by the noise of Jessabelle’s attacks.
“W-what’s going on?!” asked Jason.
“I don’t know, I bumped into her in the hallway and she just suddenly attacked me yet again.” said Soril.
“W-what?! Are you hurt anywhere Soril?!” asked Jason in worry.
“No, I’m fine. But we have to explain this to Professor Morrison. His Daughter is really causing a commotion in the academy today.” said Soril who looked really worried for Jessabelle’s actions.
“Doesn’t this make it the second time she attacked you out of nowhere?”
“I guess it does…by why though?” asked Soril.
“Ah- hahaha, I don’t know. But either way, try not to get mad at her…she’s just probably going to through puberty right now.” said Jason as he tries to act dumb for Jessabelle’s reasons.
“…Right, anyway. I have to go now, Classes are about to start and I don’t want Sgt. O’riley yellign at me again.” said Soril as he left.
“Oh, okay.”
As Soril left, Jason could only took a long look at the damage and think of Jessabelle’s stupid outburst.
“Geez, with the damage this big. The next time he meets her again, it’ll probably involve the entire school…and I don’t wanna see that happen. Hmm…”
As he thought hard about it, he decided to do something about her issues.
“Haa…if she can’t do anything about this, maybe I should be the one to bridge those two together…I’m not just doing this because I’m interested in the reaction she’ll make, but I’m doing this for the greater good of the academy!” he said to himself as a self-justification.
and off he went, grinning as life would be so.
