For I Am A Side Character - 76: Filler Days
Here in the academy, it was time to discuss the event called the [Interim Guild Factions]. From here, a lot were discussed on the matters of the event. With mainly the teachers being in this meeting, a lot of opinions and issues regarding the last event was needed to be said.
“Since this is our 15th event for the [Interim Guild Factions], it shouldn’t be an issue to simply redo our past activities towards our current participants.” said one of the teachers who was leading the meeting.
“I object, we’ve done the same obstacles for the last fifteen generations. I think its time we kick it up a notch by throwing away the undesirable events and move forward with new events that would simply involve the students as a whole more.”
“Are you saying that we should add more participants today rather than its usual 5 member limit? Let me remind you that about three years ago, riots under our supervision occurred and it lowered our image to such a degree. It even affected the numbers of the students who enrolled the year after.” said one of the based professors.
“I’m just saying that to even the odds, we should add more numbers in to the play.” said one teacher.
“Even the odds? What do you mean by that?”
“Just like how in the past year, with how the Class-B participants were able to dominate the event because of their overwhelming power. I think this would occur again specifically the Class-A students. Its already clear that the top three students are favored by many this year.”
“That doesn’t matter!” said one of the teachers.
“And why not? If the chance for them to participate in this event raises their morale, then so be it. I’m not saying that we add a whole class against one another, I’m saying that maybe add 5 more into the fray, that in itself should create some improvements.”
“I object!” suddenly out of nowhere, in this dark room came the echoing kicks of a fatman walking with such gusto.
This particular fat man was a greedy but successful man whose luck knows no bounds. He was also one of the greatest contributors of the academy. And his name was none other than Mr. Wildebor.
“Wildebor? What are you doing here at this hour?!” asked the head principal as he was shocked by his appearance.
“I simply came here to join the meeting. Apparently I didn’t get my invite so I just came by…anyway! I object to the idea that we should limit our participants with just the number of being around five…why not double it? Make it more festive and involve the people who are just as interested in this event like any other.”
“What are you saying?” asked professor James Morrison.
“I’m saying that this is a perfect event to finally fix our image. With the terrorist attacks a few days ago, our stocks have really plummeted to the ground since then. The image that this academy once held is now down at the dumps…even when you tried to fix it by inviting celebrities to perform, that itself isn’t enough since its not sending the proper message.”
“This event is simply to test the students in their capabilities relating to issues found in the dungeon where it test their strength and experience…its simply something that would facilitate what having to handle a guild should be like. Its not a show for you to monopolize on.” said the head principal.
“I get that…I really do. But this is also a contest to prove who is simply the greatest or has the most potential. The city of Diamond Reef has yet to see the potential that these kids have and we can give it to them.”
“And how do you suppose we do that?” asked James.
“…Record it and turn it into a live show. I’m pretty sure that once we showcase their strengths to the citizens outside the academy, our image will surely skyrocket.”
“…B-but this was supposed to be a private event.” said one of the teachers.
“Hmph! There is nothing wrong with a little bit of publicity. I’m simply putting this out there since I know it has potential for more future events…you know me head principal. I am never wrong about things like opportunity.” said Wildebor as he smiled ever so mischievously.
“Hmm…fine, I’ll hear you out. but other than the addition of this publicity…and the new events, I’m worried about the involvement of the senior students. Last year, a few students from different years were found supporting the first year candidates in a more than so eager fashion. So I want it to be secured before we move with the event.” said the head principal.
“I already have the student counsel members look into this issue, and by their findings, it looks like we were right to worry. Some second year students were found snooping around the faculty offices, looking for some information about this event. Luckily we took action before things turned worse.” said Miss Fien.
“Good, now then. Mr. Wildebor, I’ll take your words into mind so please be rest assured. And if any of you have any interesting events that you want to suggest, please write a detailed report about its process of action and send it to my office. I will make the final say whether or not we proceed with the changes. Now then, this concludes our meeting. Good night everyone.”
As everyone left the room, the head principal was now by himself.
As he made his way to his office found at the highest tower of the academy, he sat down on his chair and simply continued on working.
But as he did…all of a sudden, a crow landed by his window.
And from this ever so unsuspicous crow, came a letter along his foot.
“…”
The crow started tapping on his window, as if to call out to the head principal. And by the head principal’s response, he opened the window and let the crow inside.
From here, the crow flew unto his desk and there, the principal took the message that was wrapped on the crow’s legs.
As he opened the message, he read it in silence and soon his presence turned ever so sour. For along with this letter was a piece of capsule that was somewhat ominous.
“…” with just a snap of his fingers, the message burned into flames and the crow cawed at his presence.
*Caw!*
“…So the Red Door continues to persist. What a drag.” he said as he stared at the medicine capsule he held by force of his own fingers.
“Still, it looks like the 11th branch really has their work cut out for them.” as he said this. He wrote back a message and he tied it to the crow’s leg. From there, the crow knew what to do next. And without delay, the crow left the tower…
‘Hmm, still I never would have expected that he actually had a student attending my school…I thought his house was to proud to even permit this…or am I thinking about another branch? Oh well…’ with that said, the head principal returned back to his work.
Following the crow’s flight…in its own rule of order, it landed at the hands of Cecil who was found resting under his usual shade of tree even at this time of night.
From here, he read the message.
“Huh, so my hunch was right. Dr. Yohan’s work is already spreading like wildfire… Geez, at this rate, the Red Door’s influence would only grow from here. And out of all the days that he isn’t here….Soril, you lucky bastard.”
“What does the message say?” asked Master Yagami as he came by, disturbed by Cecil’s mind.
“Nothing much…but it’s really bad timing to have Soril leave us for one whole week. Just because he has a girlfriend now doesn’t mean he should forget his responsibilities here in the house!” he said in a sour tone.
“Are you jealous?” asked Master Yagami.
“Wha- no!”
“Hmm, Soril well be back before we know it. It’s the semester break, let the boy have his rest.”
“You say that, but I never had that kind of treatment before? Its always train this, train that…time has really made you soft master.” said Cecil as he reminisced on the past.
“Hmph! Unlike you, Soril actually has a social life and he is still a young boy. Its not his fault on why you couldn’t get a girlfriend back then. If you did, I might have treated you differently. Kekeke.” said Master Yagami as he was quite smug about his words.
“Ouch…that hurts.”
“No distractions! For now, you will be the one handling the issue with the red door organization. I’m sure that they won’t be a problem.”
“F-fine, I’ll deal with it. But I have to tell you this, the message came with the recent investigation about the Red Door’s abandoned factory hideout. In that place, they found the traces of a demon’s body…and it wasn’t just a lowly demon…but a high-ranking one at that”
“Hmm, Who do you think killed it?” asked Master Yagami.
“I’m not sure, but they found traces of the dark-element in the battle. I’ll try to go there if I have the free time.” said Cecil as he sounded a bit worried.
“Fine, make it a priority after you deal with the drugs. If you do recognize that dark-element…do not hesitate to tell me who it is.”
“I will.” after that, Cecil wore his Shadow Garm Set and made his way to search for the traces of drugs being distributed all over Diamond Reef City.
Knowing that Cecil left, Master Yagami returned to his usual activities in the night.
“Hmm, I hope Soril continues on his training even when his afar from the Dojo.”

Meanwhile, on the island of Barcili, as the day continued Soril was able to meet the entire Young family, including the wife of Eric young himself.
She was quite the beauty. With how golden her hair was and how blue her eyes were, she really resembled that of the average American stereotype you could find depicted in comics and the novels alike back in Soril’s old World.
Her name was Jane, and she was the lead architect who designed the supposedly proposed resort here in Barcili.
Having to say their greetings, time went by and it was finally time to simply relax and watch the sun set.
While Jessica’s family was in one of the already made resorts here in Barcili, Jessica and Soril decided to simply enjoy their time near the shore.
From how the sun was beautifully setting by and how the winds were blowing their hair softly…
Jessica couldn’t wish for a more relaxing moment with her boyfriend.
They sat on the sandy beaches…as they leaned against one another.
“I can’t believe I got to be here…I really am thankful for your invitation.” said Soril.
“You’re welcome…”
“I mean the island itself is pretty darn big. You could fit the entire academy here and still have the space to put a few dozen more resorts…its unbelievable how big it is…and how beautiful it is..”
“Well, don’t forget about our plan tonight.” she said as she reminded Soril about something.
”Right..right, I’ll introduce myself to them after dinner in the balcony of the room.”
“So…since we’re all alone here with just the two of us, I really am curious about something.” she said.
“What is it?” asked Soril.
“I think this is a bit of a sensitive question…and its alright if you don’t wanna say it, but I have to ask.”
“What?”
“Soril…How did your parents die?”
It was sudden…it didn’t fit the vibe at all. With how romantic the moment was for the two of them, Soril didn’t expect for her to ask him that.
“…” and in return, he could not say anything.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“…” he couldn’t say anything because he knew nothing about them…about Soril’s parents and how they…died.
Although he knew a bit of context about Soril’s sister and how she died out of some sickness, the issue lies within the fact that he was sent into Soril’s body long after his parent’s death. Eh was completely blank about this issue.
And although he could possibly lie and say that they might have died in a car crash or something of the like, he could not go through with a lie that involved the identities of Soril’s parents.
So he remained silent.
“…I…I’m sorry.” he could only apologize…not to Jessica, but to Soril…the boy who once owned this body.
“N-no, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought in such a sensitive topic.” she said as she saw his saddened expression. From there, she knew she somehow crossed a line.
“It’s okay…right now, I don’t think I can say anything about them.” said Soril as he tries to reassure Jessica.
“…Are you okay?” she asked.
“I’m fine, come on, lets go back to the resort.” he said as he stood up from the sandy beaches.
As Jessica followed behind, she could only watch his back…despite how broad and muscular it was, she sensed that something was wrong.
But she could not fix it…she could only watch as Soril walked with the grieving worries of his uncertainties.
