For I Am A Side Character - 120: To Meet God Once Again.
In the light of the incident where Conner bursted out of the shadows to attack Soril, the drone that served as a camera for the live audience to see, witnessed it all.
Although it was a blur, the damage done by Conner’s arrival and attempt to kill Soril simply brought in the eyes of many more people.
News about this incident quickly spread. So from a simple hundred viewers all up to the thousands, Class-C’s incident gained popularity.
Many commented as to what happened…
And more to the fact, where was Soril, the boy who was taken away by a flash of light caused by the teleportation scroll.
Neither Sgt. O’riley nor Seraphina could answer these questions.
But despite this incident, their objective was clear. To find the flag mark for them to rest on in the thick forest of the Tail Back-Dorm.
“What do we do now? We should go look for him!” said Marilyn as she was starting to worry about Soril’s disappearance.
“Keep calm everyone, we need to stay calm and focus!” said Jessica.
“She’s right, despite what just happened, trust that Soril will be alright. What we need to do for now is return to our original objective.” said Sgt. O’riley. One of the people who knew the potential in Soril’s hidden strength.
“…Sergeant, are you really going to let this pass? Shouldn’t we go and look for him! Someone just took him away for God’s sake, and you’re saying that he’s going to be alright?”
“Zeli is right! We don’t even know where that bastard took him! But we should at least try to search for Soril…” said Marilyn as she started to curse at the moment.
“…Listen up, although we’re at an edge here because of what just happened, we need to keep on going. It’s getting dark soon and the forest isn’t really that great of a place to camp…especially not here in this part of the woods.” said Ms. Sera.
“But, Soril is out there!” said Zelisha.
“…Enough! Have faith in your classmate. I’m sure that you all know that Soril is a cut above the rest…if it’s him, he can survive on his own.” said Sgt. O’riley.
“But a murderer was out for him?! How can you say for sure that he’s safe right now after the teleportation scroll took both of them away!” asked Marilyn as she said her worries to Sgt. O’riley.
“We’re not…we can’t do anything as of now, but what we can do this. We search for the flag mark and rest up for the day.” said Ms. Sera.
As the girls tried to complain to their teacehrs about the situation, the boys on the other hand simply stayed quiet. Kenji, Tony and Thors were simply quiet…despite what happened, they did looked worried. But trust that Soril was safe…
It was in their gut feeling that he was still alive.
And for Jessica…she was just as worried like Zelisha and Marilyn, but despite this, she trusted Soril’s capabilities.
She could only hope that Soril was safe…out there, alone.
But as they worry, all of a sudden a buzzing noise came from Jessica’s pocket. And along with it was the ring tone that played in action that someone was calling her.
‘…?’
When she pulled her phone, she opened it and saw that Soril was calling her.
“It’s Soril!” she said excitedly.
“!?”” everyone was quickly attracted to the news as well as the drone. So they turned to listen to what was in that call.
“H-hey, Are you alright?” she asked as she was nervous of Soril’s condition.
“…” but all she heard in the other end was a bit of static.
“…Soril? Hello?” and to the static, she turned even more worried.
[…I-I’m fine, the signal’s a bit weak here so I can’t really listen well to your voice…it mostly static…anyway, I only got to call now because its hard to find a signal from where I am right now.]
“What happened? Where are you right now? And What about the guy who went for you?” Jessica kept asking as she became curious-er and worried more and more as she finally heard the voice of Soril.
[I got away…turns out the teleportation scroll brought us at a random spot, so I don’t know where I am.] Said Soril.
“…Should we look for you?” asked Jessica.
[Don’t, it’s a waste of time. Its best that you and the others go out and continue on with the class event. While I go and look for somewhere to point me to the right direction. Maybe there’s a village nearby I can stay at for the night.]
“Are you sure?”
[Don’t worry, we’ll meet soon enough. I love you and Goodbye.]
“I…I love you too.” after that, the phone was cut off and Jessica was able to finally put on a smile.
‘He’s safe…thank God.’ she thought.
After that, the phone went off, with confirmation that Soril was safe, their worries slowly started to fade.
“Good, you heard it from him straight, we need to go and continue on the search for the flag mark.” said Sgt. O’riley.
With that, the group continued walking north.
Meanwhile, as for Soril, he was standing over the clouds, looking down on his team with a calm gaze.
“…” with his mastery towards the Emissary steps of the ghost, he was now capable of walking on air..and with the strength and speed of his legs, the moment he would start moving would seem like he was flying.
‘Hmm, it looks like their safe. No one seems to be hurt from the attack, so that’s good.’ thought Soril.
And while he was looking down on them from the clouds, all but in an instance, he noticed that Ms. Sera and Sgt. O’riley turned their heads up for a quick second with a smile on their faces.
“…Geez, looks like the two noticed me.” he said.
One should never forget who those to were…
One was a guild leader leading an expedition of hunting dragons and another was an S-ranked hunter who was said to be one of the dragon slayers of this world.
Their powers are simply not something to be looked down upon. Not even for someone like Soril.
‘Well, with the time I have now, I can finally take action and look for the next artifact.’
With this incident, it gave Soril the perfect excuse to look for the artifact.
So while he was in the air with a good reception, he picked another number to call.

“Its me…yeah, I’m waiting on you to tell me where the exact location is.”
The person he called was ‘Will Tucker’.
Just as how Will was used by the cult in his identity as a nomad to look for artifacts, Soril was going to do the same.
[That’s going to be a bit hard, from where I am right now…Its hard to sense where it is exactly.] said Will as he whispered in the call.
“…What will it take for you to find the artifact?” asked Soril.
[…Just give me time, despite how big this forest is, I can sense the Artifact somewhere west of where I am right now…the closer I am, the better my feeling is to it.]
“Okay, I’ll be waiting for the information. Call me immediately when you got the location.”
After that, he cuts off the call and simply waited.
“…He said somewhere west, should I just start looking for it on my own or…not.”
After thinking about it for a while, Soril decided not to do it. It was only a waste of time to go and hunt for an artifact when you don’t even know where it was specifically hidden. He didn’t know what the requirements were to claim the artifact. Was it to clear a dungeon and be given as a reward or was it already claimed by a hunter and he had to take it by force…
Its only going to be a hassle if he goes at it blind, so the best course of action was to just wait for Will’s answer.
Now that he has the time, he couldn’t just waste the day around by just hanging out…and it would be too suspicious if he just returns to his group now.
‘Hmm, there’s a lot of dungeons in the area…ah right, that’s it.’
After taking it into consideration, he finally realized the one thing he can do.
‘Its been a while since we spoke…I wonder if its right to call out to him now?’
With a grand number of dungeons just resting around somewhere in the forest, it wouldn’t be a problem to take one of those dungeons and clear it all for the sake that he would get to meet God again.
Despite the recent complications between the two, he decided that maybe it was best to finally meet him again.
So without wasting anymore time, he fell from the sky and starting looking for a dungeon somewhere in the forest. It didn’t matter what rank it was, for every dungeon, there was a shrine that could reach God…
And to his luck, only about an hour later, he finds an E-ranked dungeon.
The dungeon he found by coincidence was an unusually slimy dungeon…
“Ugh, A slime dungeon.”
Although it was a bit disgusting to raid a slime dungeon knowing their nature as dirty monsters, Soril had no choice. Once he decided to claim this dungeon all for his own, he started strolling deep into it.
Like a walk in the park, he started killing green slimes one after the other.
It didn’t take him even an hour to reach the boss room, but once he did, he simply took care of it with a single slash of his blade.
The Slime King was cleanly cut in half…and after that, the shrine inside the dungeon opened itself for him.
Despite having no notification of his accomplishments, he readied himself and he walked into the shrine.
Once he did, he found the usual placements of God’s shrine.
But despite him clearing the dungeon, nothing change…there was no interference in time…no God…
“…Are you not going to show yourself?” he asked.
Seeing the emptiness in the room, he sighed.
“…”
“…”
It was nothing but silence in the shrine.
‘Looks like it was a waste of time.’
Once he saw that God was a no-show, he turned his back and started making his way out of the dungeon.
But before he could leave, all in a sense of timing, God arrive and showed his grace to Soril.
“…”
“It has been a while.” said God as he puts a soft smile on his unseen expression.
“…It has.” said Soril as he showed a surprised expression.
“…Are you still mad about me?” asked God.
“Anyone would be mad if they were put in front of an Angel out to kill them…but that’s behind me now. You had faith, and I delivered…there’s nothing else to say in that manner.” said Soril as he gave off a cold and monotonous tone.
“…I’m sorry that you had to experience that kind of pain.”
“It came with the job, so its really on me. So what now? The last time I tried asking you a question, you only gave me a limit of three, but that was based off of the system’s reward. Since you came here now, what then? What’s the limit?” asked Soril.
“…I don’t know. I try to set limits to what you could do by the system…but sometimes, things are needed to be broken to work. At times, I care to let things work in favor of what needs to be done…what needs to be kept safe.”
“…And now?”
“…It seems the limits of the system that I have created no longer matters whether you are bound to it or not. You’ve reached a strength of that of a near entity far beyond a simple man and in that case, I don’t see any reason why we should limit ourselves with questions.”
“…”
“…We can just talk. Ask anything you like and I will answer.”
“I don’t think I’ll get a straight answer if I asked about you putting me in such a dangerous situation. I’ll assume that you might just say that it gave me the benefit to grow…and I did. I grew so much more.” said Soril.
“…It tore me inside to see that you struggled all to a point of near death. But look at you, you surpassed your limits and the warrior’s spirit burned even brighter than I expected. I have always expected that your connection into the Aranean’s blood and code would have been perfect for you…and I was right to gift you the passage to claim the right to walk their path, now you are slowly turning to be a righteous warrior like they were.”
“Hm, since we’re talking about them. I’ve always been curious about the Aranean Warrior’s lineage…who were they for them to have this much power?” I asked.
“…I guess you are curious.”
“I am…I want to know what I’m becoming while I’m holding on to the skills that they have bestowed upon me.” said Soril.
“Hmm, As you know, the Aranean Warriors were one of the first men to have been created in this world. I made them all for the purpose of being a higher form of security against any of all danger that may threaten the peace and bound.
“…You created them so that they could one day oppose the demons?”
“I created them to guard my domain.”
“…And where are they now?”
”Out there…somewhere far beyond this world, guarding each and every world that has a life of its own.”
“I see…”
“Now, let me ask you a question.”
“….”
“It seems that you have decided on trusting Jessica as well as the House of Shadows your identity…do you think it was the right decision to do so?”
“I see, it was about that huh. Well, I gave my identity because I was tired of always trying to hide something from the people I love. I can’t always make excuses while I go out to do the missions…sooner or later, they would have been suspicious of me and I don’t want to lose their trust…Especially not with Jessica.”
“I see…this is entirely your decision. It will be a hard path ahead, but nonetheless, I hope that you will bare the responsibility of it.”
“I will…”
As the two stood in silence, God decided to take a step forward.
“Follow me.”
From there, he started walking outside, to the forest.
“…” having to silently follow him behind, Soril keep his eyes away from God’s presence.
Despite how it goes…hate is something that was hard to overcome.
“I guess you finally meet one of the talents in this world.” said God as they continued strolling through the woods.
“Talents?”
“I’m talking about the nomad you discovered last night.” said God.
“Right, Will Tucker.”
“I hope you understand that that is not his real name.”
“I know…from what I know, the house of shadows doesn’t even know his real name. It wasn’t kept in his record…but I do know of his real face and his age. I’m surprised that people like them are over the age of 200…its insane.”
“They are a rare kind. I blessed them with the talents to find missing artifacts, all for the reason that one day they will collect them and bring its power to the people to be cherished and grow ever more. Artifacts came from dungeons as a sort of reward….but once the war came, the nomads were given another purpose in life.
“Do you mean the cursed artifacts?”
“Yes, when the demons invaded this world and when the war started, they had to spread their influences in manners that were never ethical. To spread their demonic nature, they created cursed artifacts and with it, it was scattered all over the world. Sooner than later, it started taking effect. One by one, the people who were lured in by these artifacts turned mad and went against their own. So the nomads were given a mission to collect those artifacts in hopes of destroying them.”
“I see.”
“Cherish Will Tucker…you won’t find anyone else who is as good as him.”
“Instead of relying on Will, why not just tell me now where the artifact is so that I can claim it.” asked Soril.
“Do you really wish to claim information from me? Do you wish to fully depend on me like a child? I am God…no matter what the case may be, a man must always work for his own benefit so that he may grow. If I always keep handing you things into your hand, you will never learn, nor will you survive in this world.”
“…but that doesn’t apply to the system, does it?.” asked Soril.
“If you ask whether or not it goes the same way for the system that I gifted you, well it does not. The system only acts as a compass to the story. A guide for your missions. Your strength wa only given because you were willful enough to adapt to the strengths. You are more special than you know.” said God as he puts praise in his words.
“…”
“Soril despite how it may be. Despite the strength you gained from overcoming the challenges…I must tell you now.”
“Tell me what?” asked Soril.
“This is only the beginning. It isn’t just the demons and the fanatics that are your enemies…some are lurking from different worlds. And their strength is one that could easily tore through an entire planet. Whatever it may be, never let your guard down…”
“Are you telling me this because of what going to happen soon?”
“Yes, by now I can assume that you figured out what the artifacts are going to be.”
“A key…”
“Not only is it a key, but it will be a functional key. One that connect both worlds without issues.”
“Tell me now, what do you want me to do once we go to the other world?”
“…” but on his question, God turned silent with a worried expression. He felt fear upon Soril’s curiosity.
“Based off of the book, Jason’s only objective was to leave the world along with his friends…but something about it seemed off. Was it really just about leaving and letting a world die?”
“…Soril, what I’m about to tell you will weigh on your soul more than you can imagine. I’ll tell you this now. So you must brace yourself.” said God as his tone changed.
“…”
“Soril, you must save the ruining world.”
“!?”
“It will take probably five years to do it, but…nonetheless, this is going to be your final mission for the second book.”
“W-what do you mean by that?”
“Even with the powers you have now, caring and nurturing for a world will take years to be restored. You must bring back life to that world…and bring back hope to the elves who has lost everything.”
“…you’re not joking are you?”
“No, I am not.”
“Five years…I’m going to spend in that world five years?…W-why? Why do you want me to save a dying world? It was never mentioned in the book that it should happen, that it has the chance to be saved.”
“But it has a chance to be saved.” said God.
“…”
“Soril…you must save the elves.”
“…Why couldn’t you give them this miracle instead? Its your world, your creation…and like so, shouldn’t you care for them since they are suffering!?”
“…I care…I deeply care.” said God as his voice shakes in the regret that he could not do anything.
“So why couldn’t you do it now?”
“I can’t…I lost the connection to that world.”
“…What?”
“Somehow…I can no longer hear the cries of the people nor their calls to me anymore. The demons must have done something to cut off all connection from me entirely. I could no longer hear what is happening to the world…yet despite it, I can feel the corruption of that world growing more and more by the days that passed.”
“How is that possible? You’re God, are you not?” asked Soril.
“I do not know how…the demons are advancing far faster than I would have thought to be true. Their invasion from world to world has started to progress even faster.”
“!?” hearing that statement, Soril felt fear rise from his insides, and he couldn’t help but shiver in the cold reality of that statement.
“Whatever is happening to that ruining world, you must fix it. I need you to become my messenger.”
“Your messenger?”
“Yes, bring back the hope that the people have lost. You must aid them, and restore their world so that one day, we can fight back against the demons.”
“…I…your dropping a lot on me yet again. What you said right now wasn’t even in the book. And more to the point, shouldn’t this be something that Jason should handle?! He’s the hero in this world you created remember! So why couldn’t he be the one to save the ruined world?”
“Because he’s weak. In all the fates I can see in his soul, I know that he’ll die before he’ll even reach an entire month of staying in that world…but not you. I have faith that you will come forth and bring change to the world’s ruin.”
That was true in all cases…
In the book’s story, Jason was only encountering enemies like the cultist who brought him and the others into that world. They’ve only lasted for at most 3 weeks before finally coming of a way to return back to their own world. And despite the harrowing experience they’ve encountered, they haven’t even scratched the surface of all evil that was inside that ruining world.
Monsters who were affected by the ruin of the world’s dying state turned them even more terrifying. A single student’s current strength could never hold themselves off against the monsters of that world.
Because of its state, the world was slowly dying…the core in of itself was fading…And Jason didn’t have the gift to save that world. But Soril on the other hand did…
With God’s Will, he had a chance to save that world from its pending doom. With the strength he had now, he can face those monsters…
“If there was any other way to save that world, I would have given it to you…but as of now, Jason is weak, and no one else can take on such a task…except you.” said God.
Not once has he lied…and Soril knew it well.
After a while of silence, Soril finally gave his answer.
“…Let me think about it.” with heavy breathes, Soril felt the pressure once again, weighing over his shoulders.
The responsibility behind his role was simply a bit much…for himself to even comprehend.
But the idea that he would abandon this request never came to his mind.
What he was only contemplating about was on his decision of how he was actually going to get through with it.
Right now, the fate of a world was resting on his back…
And God knows just how heavy that responsibility is.
