For I Am A Side Character - 65: God's Will
“…Why are you here?” a voice…a voice that echoed across the room.
It wasn’t loud nor was it silent…and it only ever came from one direction.
As he turned, he saw the face of a dissatisfied being…a being of all beings…
The God who brought him into this world.
And in his words, Soril felt an insecurity within him that made him feel ashamed of his actions…
He did not know why, but as he stood in front of God, Soril couldn’t help but wonder what he did wrong.
He wondered in fear…
Him, a man who was able to conquer fear, feared the idea of provoking the God before him.
“Answer me Soril…Why are you here?” and like so, God’s voice reached his and made his heart tremble.
“…I” he could not answer. He was blank.
For whatever reason, Soril could not think in front of God.
“…This wasn’t supposed to be a place where you should have ended up in.”
“…” Soril’s brows furrowed as God approached him in a calm yet saddened expression.
“I did not lead you into this place…so tell me, How…Why…and Who was it that pointed you to this direction.”
“…”
“Answer my question Soril.” said God as his voice rose beyond sensitivity, causing Soril’s ears to ring in pain.
“..Ah.” Soril felt his ears ring in an uncomfortable level.
“…Was it Gypsy?”
“…”
“I see…Your silence is just as guilty as any answer worth saying.”
“Tell me, what did she ask of you?” asked God.
“…She asked me to ready myself because the enemy I have to face would be something I could not handle. Is this true?” asked Soril.
“…I saw the Future of Miles Miller…in the book, Jason was supposed to fight an incarnation of a Demon…a person from the old world…and although the incarnation was incomplete, Jason pulled through, risking his life and enabling his ability to prosper the skill of controlling the fire that could kill all demons. He kills the demon and he receives his destiny…then and there.” said God.
“I know that…but my appearance in this world, the changes that I did…did you see anything in there that would cause something to change?” asked Soril.
“No…as what I’ve said before, I am blind to your destiny.” said God.
“…Yet somehow, Gypsy was able to tell me this. She told me that something beyond just a simple demon lurks in the future…something more powerful.” said Soril as his eyes meet with God…his eyes told that of an uncertainty.
Even with Gypsy’s words, he couldn’t fully trust it.
“…And how certain were you to believe her words?” asked God as he looked worried for Soril.
“…I wasn’t, but the information she gave seemed possible as any…and through the days of me spending my time thinking of whether or not I should come here, I decided that I would since there was no harm done in it.” said Soril.
“You could have died in this dungeon!” said God as his voice echoed in rage.
“But I didn’t…I survived through the pain…I lived through the trials…”
“…” God was silent by then.
“I lived through the trials and I came out the winner. Its like you said…you can’t predict what would happen to me…but you should at least trust me.” said Soril.
“…I trust you…but the risk of you being dead eliminates any chance for this world of ever surviving the war.” said God.
“Gypsy said that too…Everything about this world hangs on my shoulders.” as Soril said this, God could feel the pain and stress that Soril has been holding on to.
“But I need an assurance for myself…for my future in this world!” as Soril preached his selfishness unto God, he showed such a vulnerable face, almost to a point that he was willing to cry.
“…” God could only watch as Soril displayed his pain.
“You told me to live my life as I would in this word…I did just that. I’ve made friends, I’ve meet a Girl who I would even risk my life for, a second family…I’m living my life in this world. Yet the uncertainty of my future scares me, and with the role given to me, I can’t just ignore my responsibilities…”
“…I understand that your scared. That you want to protect everyone who you adore…is that why you came to this Dungeon? Not just because it could give you the power to resolve an issue…but more on the fact that it gives you a power that insures your path…”
“…Something like that.”
“Fine…because I brought you into this world, you are my responsibility.”
“What do you intend to do?” asked Soril.
“…I will grant you this skill…”
As God raised his hand to Soril, he gifted him a skill that was inside the bible that Soril held.
With it, as the bible shined into a bright light, a system window appeared before Soril and showed him the description of this ability.
[God’s Will – God’s Authority to Create.]
“…What is this?” asked Soril as he was bewildered by the name of the skill.
“…I placed my will unto your left hand…here, I gave you the authority to change and create a path for your own. To create what seems impossible to something possible. A miracle of sorts.”
“…What?”
“It is my will. A craft that will right the wrongs and with it, you can create and you can kill…”
“…But you must remember, as you use this skill, it represents my judgement…my will…my authority… it is the heaviest and greatest gift I have given man other than life.”
“Why give me this?” asked Soril as he felt burdened by such power.
“This is the assurance I gave unto you…”
“…” Soril could hardly understand the concept of this skill, as the sheer power coming from this simply destroyed any form of logic he could imagine. For he held the power of a God on his hand.
“…To use this power, one must have a will strong enough that it could bend the problem into a solution. In other words, you must have a strong will to use it…and use it well against the problems that would come across you.”
“But what if I do something wrong with it?” asked Soril as he imagined the worse to come.
“…Then that is your burden to carry as well as mine.”
“ I have nothing else to say here…from here on out, I hope you claim a path that is yours and may we meet again.”
As God said his final piece, he simply went away from Soril’s sight in a blink of an eye…and with it, Soirl found himself back on the surface.
[You have conquered the Angel’s Church.]
But even as he completed such an achievement, he remained silent and bewildered by the gift that was placed on his hand.

The next day, Soril didn’t attend the academy.
And to some other surprise, Jason also wasn’t available that day in the academy.
As Sgt. O’riley stared at Soril’s desk in question of his absence, he turned to his class.
“Hmm, does anyone know why Soril is out today?” he asked In a rather tensed tone.
“…Thors?…Marilyn? Do any of you know why he isn’t in today?” asked the Sgt.
“No sir, he didn’t really told us anything.” said Marilyn.
“How about you Jessica? Did he say anything in particular as to why he couldn’t attend today’s class?” asked the sergeant as he looked to Jessica who was just as worried.
“No sir…”
“I see…well, our preliminary exams are coming up and with that, I need you to inform him as well since you two seem to be the closest in the class.”
“..I understand.” as Jessica agreed, As soon as the class ended , Jessica quickly made her way to Soril’s home.
*Sigh*… ‘I’ve been calling him since this morning, why hasn’t he picked up the phone?…I’m starting to get worried.’ she thought as she rode on her car.
As she finally arrived at his home, she noticed a motorbike parked at the side of Soril’s driveway.
“…What the, when did he get that?” she asked as she was interested in the sight of this vehicle.
But soon after, she quickly shook her head and entered the house using a spare key that Soril gifted to her.
“Soril, I’m coming in.” as she opened the door, she made her way in.
As she entered, the first thing she saw was the figure of Soril simply napping on the dining table. There on that table, he looked rather pale.
Seeing his condition, Jessica tried to check if he had a fever. As she touched his forehead, she could feel an intense heat.
“…Jessica?”
“…My God…you look terrible.” said Jessica as she was completely worried about him.
“..Hnn, sorry for not picking up your calls…I didn’t have the strength to do pick up my phone.” as he said this, Jessica could only look with worry as Soril could barely move from the table.
“Don’t worry about it. I should really move you to your bed…come on, lets get you changed and put you to rest.” as Jessica assisted with Soril’s clothes and putting him into bed, she then made her way to cook him some porridge.
“I”m gonna make you some porridge, okay.” said Jessica as she put a wet towel over his head.
As she prepared some porridge in the kitchen, she looked over around the living room and noticed that on the table, the foldguard armor was found opened but not worn.
“Hmm, why is this out on the table?” she asked herself as she pressed the button and it folded itself back into a magic tool.
“Still…I can’t believe that Soril was able to catch a cold. Him out of all people, I didn’t expect that he would get sick.” she said as she was soon starting to feel relieved. Thankfully, to her, it seemed like it was just a high fever…
When the porridge was ready, she carried some to Soril’s room and found that he was still sleeping on the bed.
“Soril, I got you some porridge. I’m sure you haven’t eaten anything since this morning, so here, have some.” she said as she placed the porridge beside his table.
“Hnn…how long have I been asleep?” he asked as he rose up from his bed.
“I don’t know, but you’ve been absent from the academy for a whole day, so I got worried.” she said.
“I see…a whole day huh. Thank you for the porridge, I think I can eat it by myself so you can just go home now.” said Soril as he slowly reached for the porridge.
“Can I ask what happened? I didn’t really expect to find you here with a fever of all things, so I’m worried what got you this sick.” she said.
“You promise you wont be mad?”
“…Promise.”
“I overdid myself by going to a dungeon by myself.”
“What!?”
“I thought you wouldn’t get mad…”
“Soril!? What the hell? What are you doing going out to a dungeon all by yourself?”
“A lot of people do it. Its called solo hunting.”
“And what kind of dungeon did you even go to?” she asked as she looked very mad at him.
“It was just a B-ranked dungeon. I faced off with an A-ranked monster and pushed myself to hard.” he said as he lied straight from his teeth.
“…A B-ranked dungeon?…huh, did you plan on conquering it?” she asked.
“No, not really. I was just curious if I can beat an A-rank monster by myself…thankfully, I won at the end. But yeah, here I am.”
“Hmm, does that explain the motorbike outside your driveway?” she asked.
“Oh, you saw that?”
“Yeah…*Sigh…* anyway, I’m thankful that you’re safe…just don’t do that again. If you keep doing this all on your own, I”m worried that you might just push yourself over the limit.”
“Sorry…”
“It wasn’t that long ago that you were measured as a B-ranked hunter…shouldn’t that be enough for now? I’m not expecting you to be great each week that passes by, just know, I want you to take care of yourself.”
“…Yeah, okay.”
“Good, now since your still sick, I’m going to be staying over tonight to take care of you until you get better.”
“What? Wouldn’t your parents be worried?” he asked.
“Oh, don’t worry about that. I never planned on going home today. Also, I think my parents know about our relationship. My mom keeps dropping hints at me by putting some birth control pills at my bag…geez.”
“…!??…I-I see.”
“Anyway, I’m going to be sleeping on the other room, so just call for me when you need something.” she said as she went to one of the guest rooms beside Soril’s bedroom.
“Thanks…”
As Jessica left, Soril only saw her off with a smile on his face.
Its time like these that Soril felt happy to be still alive.
“…” now that he was all alone, he was left only staring at his left arm…although it could not be seen by anyone but his eyes, Soril could clearly see the mark on his hand.
‘…God’s Will…it takes more of a burden than I could have imagined.’ he thought to himself as he felt nervous at the sight of the mark.
‘I need to train more to use it…right now, I can only use it once a day…after that, my body collapses even with the strength of that of an A-ranked hunter. This will be my trump card no doubt.’
