For I Am A Side Character - 63: The Fallen's Church
Standing in front of me was a door…one that seemed irredeemably different. The presence it brought just from its figure spoke of something greater than most dungeons… it was as if this entire dungeon was made for something that defied a natural formula for what a dungeon was…
Feeling hesitant, I tried to wonder why the angels would bring me here…
Gypsy said that I was their hope…I was the one who was said to save this world because apparently it wouldn’t survive at the end of its story…
If that was true, God really fumbled with that kind of writing.
Either way, I took a deep breath in and took a step forward…
As I did, the closer I got, the door reacted differently. It opened up for me as I came, as if it was welcoming me.
And as I got pass the door, what awaited me on the other side was a place simply riddled in darkness…
Not a speck of light came other than the magic light I brought with me. But even with the light, its reach never spotted a corner or anything…it was as if the darkness of this place was swallowing the light. It reminded me of the trial I went through just to obtain the Ethereal Will of the Dark.
‘Hmm…its cold.’ I thought as the moment I breath out to exhale, my breath turned to immediately white.
And it was strange…
This place, for a dungeon I expected it to be crawling with monsters…yet for some reason, I couldn’t sense even a tinge of bloodlust making itself my way.
So instead of relying on my natural senses, I turned on my enlightened domain.
[Enlightened Domain of the Dark]
As I did, I quickly noticed something standing before me…with just a radius of about 2 meters, I noticed the figure standing before me…
‘A knight?’
What I felt with my domain was a knight, clad in armor…carrying sword and holding itself in a position of worship and prayer towards a certain direction, not to me, but something much further ahead of me.
“…?” being curious, I walked even further ahead to see where it would take me. With my Enlightened Domain activated, I kept on repeatedly seeing the figures of these knights praying towards a certain direction, which made me curious who they were worshiping.
Going even further in this cave, I came upon the sight of a holy figure of an angel burning in a cauldron. The entire figure of this statue simply stood in front of all the knights I came upon…as if it was a sign of worship.
“…An Angel burning in a cauldron?…the only angels I know from this world is Gypsy who gave me the information of this place, Atlanta…the sole worship of this worlds name, and the unknown angel who gifted Jason his power of fire…out of all of those angels, the one with the most religious figure is Atlanta.”
“Hmm…the only thing right about this is that she burned in hell with her head decapitated because of the Demons who came and tried to go past the mortal realm…is the supposed to be a representation of that?” I asked myself this as I tried to understand the statue’s story before me.
And as I figured the story, what stood behind me was a table to which I just noticed. Seeing this table, I was only ever convinced that this entire dungeon was starting to be more like a church than that of a dungeon.
On this table was a book…
A book that showed the religious emblem of a headless angel with broken wings.
And it was titled…
“Atlanta…”
To my curiosity, I tried reaching out to read the context of the book, but as I did…the closer I got in touch with the book, I felt something sinister that was brewing in this room…
It was killing intent.
“Hmm, so the room reacts to the condition of this book…I see.” I said as I fully grasped the mechanism of how this dungeon was going to be activated.
Seeing it as it is…I didn’t hesitate to grasp the cover of the book.
And the moment a single skin cell of my finger tips touched the leather cover…I instantly felt a blade passing through my 2 meter radius domain…with it, I reacted.
“!?”
*Ting!*
With no prior preparation whatsoever, I was able to bring out my sword fast enough in reaction to the upcoming blade…
There…without folly, a knight was standing before me with his blade out and about along with his killing intent severely overflowing and raging towards me.
“Thou shall not commit sin of Greed!” said the husky voice of the knight who raised his sword with no other intention other than malice.
“Fuck off!”
And without mercy, I showed the same kind of anger towards knight, blasting him a heavy slash that could easily rip apart his armor…
But in the context of my attack, I found him to be unscathed…although he was pushed back a couple of meters away, he remained unfazed by a heavy slash.
“!?” shocked, I realized that this wasn’t going to be as easy as I would have imagined.
And at this start…from our exchange…a screen pops out from in front of me, telling me my objective.
[Conquer the S-rank dungeon – The Angel’s Church.]
‘An S-rank?’ thinking hard of what this implied, I turned to the knight and saw that after my attack, it didn’t just stopped with one knight…but slowly after my counter, more came to life as they stood before me…raising their swords under the oath of worship and grievance of my intrusion.
With the show of their loyalty to this dungeon and its order, flames started appearing from all over the torches found at each pillar. The light it brought showcased the number of knights standing before me.
Their presence alone could shake an entire city with just their strength….but with it, I could only smile nervously…
With my current stats…it seemed impossible.

“.…hahaha, a single B-ranker against a hoard of A-ranks…what a joke.”
What stood before me were willful knights…
[Inquisition Knight – Rank A]
In the moment they stood eager to take me down, I took the initiative by simply acting on instinct.
[Enlightened Domain of the Dark]
[Ethereal Will of the Dark]
[FoldGuard -Equipped]
Both skills were activated…ensuring my will and skill to survive this entire damned situation. And with my armor gifted by Jessica was worn…wearing the same glistening armor as the enemy…it felt odd yet that didn’t seem to matter to the enemies in front of me.
They were just as willing as I am. Willing to punish me for my said crime.
A lone man to stand against an army…I never would have imagined that I would be put in such a situation.
I took a deep breath and with it, I dashed forth.
The first knight I approached was the same knight who took the initiative to kill me first, in it, I wanted to finish off the most injured enemy. Slashing down my sword, I was confident that I could manage a kill…but I was naive…
“Khk!” the moment I swung my sword, the bastard already went inside my domain, calculating the very thing I would do…
He’s perception on movement was clearly on a whole different level then I was.
He didn’t parry, he didn’t block, he simply went across the gaps of my swinging form and thrusted his sword into the position of my heart.
*Thung!*
Luckily, my armor was able to fend off his blade…yet the force of his thrust alone caused my entire body to shake.
“!!?” he was able to push me back straight to where the table was placed.
*Crash!*
I found myself stuck to the side of the table…feeling my heart beating, I knew I was still alive.
He was fast…and with him, the other knights were the same.
It felt impossible to win…
In just one exchange, I could feel the gaps of our strength and experience…
Even with the help of the domain, it all seemed like a folly thing to imagine that I would survive this dungeon…
The gaps between our rank was just that far apart…
But I didn’t fear.
Instead, I only stood back up again and faced them with an eager smile…
This was a dungeon…and its meant to be conquered.
Lets try again…and this time, lets put our training into effect.
What did master say about the domain?…right…it was the skill that bounds a gap from the enemy and your body…if you can’t control your enemy the moment they touch this domain then your not using it right….that’s what master said…
So focus Soril…Focus…
Use the Dark element to feel your reach…feel everything.
With my eyes closed, I put myself in a position where I only waited for the enemy to come.
I waited…
And waited…
Patience is key…don’t let myself be overtaken in the moment…
In my domain…I control my own moment…

Soril’s talent in magic wasn’t something to look down upon. In this world, he would have been considered a genius like Jessabelle Morrison if he acted right, but because of how the story went, he wasted his potential and became a bastard just like any other…but now, a time to showcase his genius was finally availed to him…
Even if it was the Dark Element, it was still a concept under the category of magic…with just a bit of effort, his genius would surely be applauded if it was seen.
‘Focus Soril…focus on what the Dark Element truly means…power? The power to conjure? The power to devour with its shadow?…darkness is everywhere…and its within my grasp…just focus…’
From a simple radius of 2 to that of a rising domain…Soril’s domain simply grew as he did.
His complete focus over every inch of his reach inside his domain simply granted him a mastery towards something called ‘Presence’.
Unlike before when he was still new to this domain training, the constant intrusion of having to decide whether or not he should go into this dungeon simply left him quite lacking in fully taking in the effort of learning the process of this domain…his mind was somewhere else at that time…
Yet now, as he stood inside the domain, the place where he longed for is finally under his foot, with no other intrusion but the enemies that lies before him, nothing else mattered.
Right as of that moment, he was in a complete state of focus that simply reached the level of a rising master…
And like a rising master, his domain grew…from 2 meters of a radius to that of a 5…and from a 5, it then grew to an 8 meter radius…his reach was far enough that it reached his nearest enemy…
Yet as he felt his enemy, he remained closing his eyes.
Waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
And with no falter, the enemy charged. Not just one knight, but three who came running with the sense of purpose to eliminate the enemy.
The moment they stepped inside the domain, Soril could already tell where they would predictably move…
‘One is coming from the right, the other is coming from the left…and the last is thrusting straight forward….I see.’
Giving him such a range of his domain, he knew just what to do at that moment. Added by the fact that he showed no sense of fear whatsoever in the moment because of the Ethereal Will, the clarity on how he would decide his choice of action simply overshadowed every form of threat this dungeon showed.
He parried. Each knight that came to him, he parried them all.
*thud*
*thud*
*thud*
Each parry consisted of a heavy strikes…knowing that his current strength could not match theirs, he simply showered each enemy in attacks that didn’t burdened his body like so.
And to the knights that were parried, they were simply thrown back to the entrance like a couple of ragdolls…
“Okay then…lets fucking do this.” with that said, he showed the knights his very own murderous intent.
With it, it was showered down on them, making them react to his presence.
““!?””
His determination was boiling and making him rather enraged and excited.
The knights knew in that moment, that it was more than just a sheer coincidence that he was able to throw them like so, it only meant that the intruder was growing into something more threatening.
Yet as prideful Inquisitions, they raged on just to eliminate the intruder.
They charged at him with no hesitation whatsoever, going with at least ten knights at a time to fight him off, his ability to adapt to the numbers and react to their attacks inside his domain had him moving at his place trying to reach a limit form immovability…
Each knight that came charging in, got sent back.
With a mix of Mana Reinforcement to his sword and shield, paired with the fact that he would use his skill [Shield breaker], not a single knight came close to do a major damage on his body. Because the moment their swords were able to scrape his armor, they were already being pushed and parried back.
*Thud!*

*Thud!*
*Thud!*

Like being shot out of a cannon, each knight were dealt with heavy attacks…but not once were they strong enough to cause murderous damage.
Soon, the knights realized that they could not penetrate through his defenses…seeing this, they had a change of plan.
With said changed plan…the colors of the torches lighting the dungeon suddenly turned into something more sinister.
From a red simple flame, turned into an ashy blue fire that simply spoke of grievance.
With its change, from the shadows of the dungeon, came the sight of ten robed-covered enemies appearing out of nowhere.
[Inquisition Priest Mage – Rank A]
With their hands holding books similar to that of the emblem of the book placed on the table, theses mages started chanting some skills that brought Soril’s attention.
‘…new enemies?’ seeing it, Soril tried to interfere in their attacks by throwing a heavy slash at them, but as he attempted to do so, the knights came and blocked his attack.
Soon, some of the knights started attacking him again to occupy him and prevent him from doing anything to the mages, while they focused on their attacks.
As of now, Soril has yet to kill a single Knight…their strength and endurance to his attacks were simply superior…the only skill he knows that would actually do some damage was the Mountain Splitter, but even with such an attack, it takes a lot out of him just to do it.
Soon as the Mages were ready, they fired five large rays of magic down at him, and feeling the force of its power, Soril tried to dodge it, but as he did, one of the knights came and tried to sacrifice itself at him by blocking his path.
The knight embraced Soril, causing him to tumble on the floor. as he struggled to get out of his grasp, he was too late to realize the five magics firing down at him with no sense of mercy at all.
*Booom!!!*
*Booom!!!*
*Booom!!!*
*Booom!!!*
*Booom!!!*
Each attack came after another…and in a small glimpse of motion, Soril was found being tossed around like dirt from this attack.
The fierceness of this power was enough that it even shook the very dungeon they were in.
And soon as the attack ended, out of the dust and debris found everywhere, Soril found himself severely injured on the ground.
Yet with him, the knights found out that aside from his casualty, three priest mages were found dead. Their bodies were cut in half…clean to the stomach…and the person found responsible for this was seen smiling.
“hehehehe…” Soril laughed. His sheer effort to find a chance in using his Mountain Splitter on the Mages caused a major uproar to the knights.
With it, he gained the experience from killing those mages.
[+10,000 EXP]
[+10,000 EXP]
[+10,000 EXP]
With his eyes barely awake, his breathing barely visible, he still had the strength to laugh.
But even so, it wasn’t enough to save his life… he was one kill to short.
[ 7,050 exp until to the next level…]
“Ahh…hghaaaaaa” he took a very deep and sore breath from this. As he could feel blood running up to his throat, he soon coughed up in the sheer pain of it all.
*Cough!*
*Cough!*
*Cough!*
*Cough!*
Blood splatters down on the floor as he continues to lay like a dead man.
Struggling, he tried to reach for a healing potion from the System Point Store…but he soon failed as not long after, a knight came and lifted him up by his throat.
“Khuk! -Ahh….y-you bastards….” he said as he looked down on the knight who showed no sense of mercy for him.
‘…’ looking up to him…from where he was being lifted from, he saw the knight who tried to grab hold of him and sacrifice him to the attacks from the mages…there that knight was found lying on the ground, not yet dead.
Just one more…
In an instant, he slowly raised his hand…and conjured a magic skill…
[Mana Spear.]
And as he fired, it killed the knight down on the rubble…yet to the knight holding him, it seemed like his last efforts were for nothing…but not to his knowing, Soril gained another form of experiences.
[+10,000 EXP]
With it, he leveled up.
Level: [34 –> 35]-[ 70,000 exp until to the next level…]
[System Points: 19.5]
[Stat Points: 5]
Seeing his body quickly heal, he instantly took this chance to kill the knight infront of him.
Using his legs, he reinforced it with just enough mana that with the injured knight holding him, it could easily rip the head off from its shoulders.
*Kick!*
And like so, the knight feel the floor dead and Soril gained another experience boost from this.
[+10,000 EXP]
“Good…its finally working, thedamage I’ve inflicted on you bastards is finally taking effect.” he said as his efforts are finally showing.
With it, he pulled out a sword from his spacebag and he picked up the sword from the knight who he had just recently killed. Here, in this moment he decided that it was full on offensive. He couldn’t risk defending himself while the enemy piles on an attack over him again.
So he was duel wielding while activating his domain…
Like the saying goes, the best defense was offense. With that said, with him holding two swords, the knights were found just as maddened as before. With it, in this dungeon that was now in complete ruins, all he had to do now was clean up the dirt.
He charged on forward, and against him, the knights came in towards him as well.
One against the enemies over the hundreds…
What could go wrong?
Th massacre started.
From all over the place, Soril struggled to keep the knights from surrounding him at all directions. With using two swords, he couldn’t stay in place too long because if he did, it won’t be long before a sword stabs him in the back. That was why at this point of the battle, Soril was always moving.
At a speed barely comprehensible to the human eye, he moved with the desperation to have it all end…
The fight against a 98 knights and 7 mages lasted for hours…
And each hour that passes, Soril always gained a level, Soril always had his body restored…
To him, he never wore out like a car relying on fuel…to him, he was a new form of energy that never wasted…never ended.
And to it, 4 hours later…Soril came out on top.
From being a level 35 to a level 46 hunter, Soril was able to grow so much from this dungeon.
Level: [46]-[ 6,000 exp until to the next level…]
Strength: 68 (+5) –> 73
Endurance: 52(+3)–> 55
Intelligence: 48 (+2)–> 50
Agility: 59 (+10)–> 69
Mana: 12/62
[System Points: 19.5]
[Stat Points: 45]
But still…even with hunting all of these knights down, the dungeon wasn’t yet conquered.
It remained the same…
In other words…the boss still had to be defeated.
And like an old fashion video game, from the very walls of the dungeon, out burst a monster that simply was more powerful than any of the monster he fought today.
Out came the true protector of this entire dungeon.
[General Lordship – Rank S]
