For I Am A Side Character - 48: Raiding the Inside of a Cave filled with Goblins
‘Hmm, why is he here?’ asked Jessabelle to herself as she stared at a certain someone from a distance.
‘It hasn’t even been that long since we fought…and now, he’s here again…is he deliberately following me?!’ and to her somewhat immature mind, immature thoughts occurred.
‘…and if so, why?…why is he following me?’
‘No, it must be a coincidence…right?’
Seeing as how terribly curious she was, she kept turning her way to this certain person…so much so, that it caught the attention of Jason.
“What are you looking at?” asked Jason as he was sharpening his blade.
“Huh!? W-what is it?” in reaction, Jessabelle jolted from her seat, surprised by the call from Jason, where she then turned to him at an odd rate.
“…You seemed kind of jumpy, what’s wrong?” asked Jason as he was worried for her.
“N-nothing. I’m just nervous!” said Jessabelle with an irritated and nervous tone.
“In a Starter’s Dungeon? I find that hard to believe.” he said.
And still, Jessabelle keeps turning to a certain someone’s direction. And seeing her act, Jason soon turned his way to where she was looking. And found Soril and his group.
“Oh…I see.” said Jason as a smirk came across his face.
“What?” asked Jessabelle as she was somewhat annoyed by Jason’s tone.
“I can see why you would be nervous…with the guy who was able to beat you for the first time. It must be really nerve wracking to imagine what you would say… are you nervous?” asked Jason quite fondly.
“Shut up, okay…I said I was nervous about the dungeon! Not some bastard like him!” she said in a loud tone.
“…Right. Knowing you, I think its best that you try to confront him…at least talk to guy. Because if you don’t, I can only imagine that you’ll probably make it worse.” said Jason as he assumed.
“Wha- and how can I even make it worse?” she asked sarcastically.
“Simple…your social skills isn’t really something you can boast about.” said Jason confidently.
“…What did you say!?” said Jessabelle in her quick to anger action.
“Yeah…that. Anyway, like I said, just talk to the guy…if you were ever thinking of being close to the person who was able to beat you, communication is key.” said Jason sincerely.
“…”h aving to hear those words from Jason, she thought that it was a stupid…it wasn’t even worth considering, yet still…those words remained for some reason.
“Okay everyone, lets start this hunt!” said Juel as he lead his group in first.
The entire raid of group went with the Armadillo Knights at front, Jason’s group at the center and Soril’s group at the rear.
As they went in, they raised their weapons very eagerly.
Walking to the front of the entrance, what stood before them was a closed gate.
“…mages, open fire on the gate…’ said Juel in command to his companions.
Four of his members responded by raising their staff and each staff conjured a power capable of tearing away the door.
“Fire!” and as Juel signaled the attack, all but immediately, the door was wrecked open, leaving it for them to enter.
“lets go…” said Juel cautiously.
Walking into a cave, one could expect it to be dark and ominous for a goblin’s nest. And seeing it upfront, it was dark to a point that barely anyone in the raid could see where the enemies were. But Jason could feel a few eyes watching them from afar…
“…their coming.” said Jason as he brought out his sword.
“Tanks, ready!” said Juel as two of his men came forward with their shields out and about.
And as soon as they put out their shields, five spears from above came falling at such a speed that it instantly caught the attention of the tankers.
“Above!” said one of the tankers as they were meet with sharp spears.
*Thuck!*
*Thuck!*
*Thuck!*
Three spears struck the two shields while the rest missed.
Seeing this happening, Zelisha pulled on her bow and tried to see where those spears came from, but the dark cave was very much in the favor of those goblins.
“Marilyn…give us some light.” said Zelisha.
“Okay…give me a second.”
As Marilyn raised her spear, a bright light was conjured.
[Fallen Feather of the Holy Touch: Holy Light]
A bright light shined all over the cave, revealing the very nature of what was inside.
““!!?””
And to their shock, they were meet with dozens of pairs of eyes up above…
Yellowish eyes that stank like piss, droll that keeps falling from their insatiable hunger…and a crooked laugh that seems to have come from a pest…these Goblins were hanging on top of the cave ceiling like bats.
And not a second later as they were revealed, they started falling, knives out and a rage stirred clear.
“Above!!” Said Juel as he brought out his spear and aimed it above to counter the falling goblins.
“Khk!” Zelisha tried her best as she rapidly fired at the incoming enemy, and with her talents, she was able to kill three out of the dozen.
The mages were to slow in their activation, so it all was left to two particular people good at magic.
Soril fired about dozens of his mana spears and so did Jessabelle.
So before the goblins could even fall down on them, they were left peirced by magic.
“Hmm, these pest aren’t usually like this.” said Jessabelle as she kicked a dead goblin in the head.
“She’s right, I’ve never heard of a goblin making quite a sneak attack from up above.” said Marilyn as she stared at the ceiling of the cave.
“Looks like they made a net out of vines and placed it up above to hang themselves…where did they learn to make such a thing?” asked Jessica as she looked worried.
“Who knows…but we might get an answer if we keep on going in the cave.” said Juel.
With that said they moved on forward.
As they did, Jason went and approached Soril.
“Damn, you were really good in taking care of those goblins. I mean, One dozen spears in just under a second is something I thought only Jessabelle can do…but you did it. Nice job” he said as he tried to compliment Soril.
“Yeah.” but to his efforts, Soril rarely made any reaction to his praise.
“…Ah…hahaha…yeah.’ seeing the awkwardness made from his blunt reply, Jason casually regrouped with both Audrey and Jessabelle.
“What were trying to do?” asked Jessabelle.
“Ah…I just thought that if we talked, I can introduce you to him and you can finally both talk.” said Jason.
“…What?”
“I mean, isn’t this what you wanted?” he asked.
“Wha-no! Don’t try to fucking do anything! I didn’t ask for your help.” she said furiously at him.
“Fine, okay…I’ll back off.” he said.
And overhearing their conversation, Audrey came close to Jason and tried whispering something in his ear.
“J-Jason.”
“Hmm? What is it Audrey?” asked Jason.
“If you have the time, can I ask for a favor from you?” she said.
“Okay…tell me? What is it?”
And so, Audrey asked with her request. A certain request that seems to have caused Jason to be in shock.
“I don’t get it but okay…I understand.” he said.
Seeing that, Jason then slowly paced himself as they walked into the deeper parts of the cave. And at his slow pace, he was able to meet Soril again at the rear.
On his way to want to try and talk to Soril again, Soril was in the middle of his own conversation with his group.
“So like I said, magic isn’t all that hard to understand as long as you can get the feel of it. The best element that really works well with my own magic is light magic, finding a way to use it on battle however is tricky, there’s hardly any light attacks spells made for the light element.” said Marilyn as she happily spoke with Soril on the topic of their magic compatibility and understanding.
“Hmm, I never really tested my compatibility with an element before. How do you know if your good at a certain element.”
“I don’t know…I don’t think there’s a machine to test that because I just figured it out on my own. In the end, Its all about trial and error on picking the best element there is for me.” said Marilyn.
“And you came to the conclusion on using light magic?” asked Soril.
“Yeah…out of all the elements there is, Light was what felt the most familiar to me.” she said.
“It was said by my grandfather that back in the war, Light magic was one of the most deadly used spells against the demons. They were very effective to a point that it drove the demons back from their advancements.” said Thors in his own words.
“hmm, light magic sounds useful.” said Soril.
As they talked, Jason came in and tried approaching Soril again.
But before hecould, Jessica came in front of him with a rather defensive stance.
“What are you trying to do?” asked Jessica as she intruded on Jason.
“Um…hi, I don’t think I got your name…” said Jason.
“Its Jessica.” she said.
“Ah yes, Jessica. Is it alright with you if I talk to Soril? I have a friend of mine that wants to meet him personally.” he said.
“A friend? Which friend? If it’s the Morrison, then no.” she said, showing her clear anger to Jason.
“Oh…ah no. Its not her, its Audrey, Audrey Yagami…she wants to talk with Soril.” said Jason.
“A-audrey Yagami?!” to her shock, she looked to Soril in question, wondering why Audrey Yagami was curious about Soril. In it, a lingering emotion was setting in…
For some reason, finding a beautiful girl like Audrey Yagami or Jessabelle Morrison to have a small tinge of interest on Soril simply made her feel rather odd about herself. She felt consciously attacked by something.
Feeling nervous, she approached Soril to a point that her left shoulder was touching his arm.
In this moment, although she could not tell what it was, she felt an insecurity grow within herself.
“…What’s wrong?” asked Soril to Jessica.
“N-nothing.” she said in a nervous manner.
And in her words, he turned to Jason with a furrowed brow.
“What’s going on?” asked Soril.
“Oh…umm, Audrey was asking about you. She wants to talk to you personally.” said Jason.
“…Audrey.” saying her name, he felt a bit curious as to why she called to him personally.
‘does she recognize me from the locked dungeon?’ he thought as he stated straight at Audrey’s back.
“…Right.” seeing as how it felt like his curiosity can only be answered if he talks to her, he attempted to walk to her.
“…”
But before he could pace himsel forward to Audrey, he suddenly felt a tug on his cloths coming from Jessica.
“…?”
“…” Jessica could not look him in the eye…and seeing this, he sighed.
And he looked to Jason with a rather calm gaze.
“Maybe next time. If she wants to talk to me, she should come to me straight rather than have you talk to me first…”said Soril as he continued staying at the rear.
“O-okay…I’ll tell her that.” said Jason.
And soon enough, Jessica’s grip on Soril’s shirt loosened.
“…Jessica?” as he tried calling out to her, she lets go of his shirt and soon, paced herself forward.
“*Ahem*…its nothing.” said Jessica as she could not look him in the eye.
But upon observation, Soril saw the redness on her ears…
“…Whoa. I’ve never seen her act like that before.” said Zelisha as she looks to Soril.
“…Don’t you get it?” asked Marilyn as she was smiling from ear to ear.
“W-what? What do you mean?” asked Zelisha…
“Well…” in her rather perceptive yet annoying smirk, she leaned into Zelisha’s ear and started whispering some words.
“Oh my…I see…uhuh….hmm…Really??” and to it, Zelisha was rather getting giddy as she hears about Marilyn’s clear show of opinion.

Deeper in by the distance of the dark cave, a hoard of goblins waited as one goblin with a spear and a distinctive ear mark stood by the highest edge of a overhanging cliff.
There, the leading goblin stared below, waiting for the upcoming raid of hunters.
“Kruakkk!” [When are they coming?] spoke one of the orcs down in a position of ambush.
“Kraah-kaak!” [Silence!, we must not give away our position to those invading pest!] said a goblin who carried a mace.
“Krahk!” all of a sudden, the leader raised his spear, and by his call, one certain goblin was able to cast a magic spell.
[Ember~~]
In it, a small flame the size of a torch’s light came to hand and in it, the goblin capable of magic landed his hand to a boulder, to which it caused the boulder to start aflame.
“Karrhk!” [Fire!] shouted the leading goblin.
And to his call, the flaming boulder was then pushed off the cliff inside the cave, rolling down straight to the raiding hunters.
*BOOM!*
As the boulder crashes, it exploded in a rather dynamic matter.
Soon, the goblins cheered, thinking that they were successful, but to this thought, the leading goblin who was smirking from ear to ear soon turned to where the boulder laid, expecting that everything was dead.
“!?”
But to his surprise, he found not a single one dead.
And instead, a fire bigger than that of a torch’s light came out of nowhere.
“These pest really are starting to get on my nerves.” said Jessabelle as she fired a ball of fire straight to the hoarded orcs and goblins.
“Krahkkk!!!” [Ruuunnn!!!]
“Kuraakk!” [Retreat!!!]
Soon, those goblins ran while they were in flames.
Some fell to the floor and died, others were able to bare the flame but was ambushed by the raining sight of both arrows and mana spears.
What survived after that was massacred by the sight of the hunters carrying blades and hammers and daggers.
These Goblins were simply not strong enough even with their tricks and plans used against the hunters. Their levels were to far apart. And in the end, it was left with the impression of a slaughter.
The leading goblin who witnissed this thought that he could ran away as he was far from the massacre, but as he fled, he came across a man carrying a sword and a shield.
“Kraruhk!” [Damned pestful Raiders!]
“…Hmm, looks like you would do well for the evidence on my work.” said Soril as he swung his sword.
Before the goblin could even raise his spear, his head had already fallen and is ear was cut as evidence for Soril’s homework.
They have already entered the cave and have traversed for over two hours now.
They have killed about over a hundred of them..from orcs to goblins, not a single one was able ot escape.
Now…in the end of this hunt, at the end of this cave was the room that contained a certain beast.
A beast unlike any goblin or orc.
What awaited inside was the Goblin King.
“So far, we haven’t meet with anything other than a goblin or an orc.” said Jason.
“There were some special cases like Goblins capable of casting magic and an orc capable of using a skill.” said Juel.
“The only thing left is this Door…whats behind it is probably the boss of this cave…a unique monster.” said Thors as he placed his hand on the door.
But as soon as he did, a certain message was able to pop out for everyone to read.
“…!” seeing it, Soril was caught suprised by the scene. It was similar to that of his System whenever it introduces him to a new mission.
And just like the story goes, a certain aspect of this cave wanted something from the group.
[Boss Room – 0/5 candidates]
“…Hmm, it similar to other boss rooms in some dungeons.” said Jason as he observes the door’s abrupt message.
“Yeah, but the thing is, is that the boss room is not located here. Its being protected by the hunters association somewhere other than this cave. What lies behind that door isn’t the boss of the entire dungeon.” said Juel.
“If it was, and if we did kill the boss, this entire dungeon would have been conquered and erased.” said Zelisha.
“So something else is on the other side of this door…” said Jason.
“Based off of the message, only five people are allowed inside. So who should we pick out of all of us.” said Marilyn.
“I’m going in.” said Juel as he took the initiative to be apart of the group willing to face the monster inside the other side of the room.
“Hold on, we have to choose those who are most likely going to have a high chance of beating the monster on the other side of this room. We only have to pick the best.” said Jessica.
With that said, there were certain names being thought of that could be put in the room.
“Its obvious right?” asked Zelisha as she was thinking about it.
“Right…your right…the only people who can go and fight the boss is Jason, Jessabelle, Audrey, Me and…you.” as Juel spoke his mind, the last person he pointed to was Soril.
“…” but seeing as how Soril was crossing his arm, with a face of discomfort, it felt like he wasn’t so willing to go in.
“Do you want to face the boss of this cave with us?” asked Jason.
“…” but seeing as how he remained quiet, it felt like he didn’t want to involve himself.
“Well, do you Soril?” asked Jessica.
‘…damn…should I?’ he thought to himself as he felt like involving himself in the story might not be too much of a problem. Its only the boss…and as long as he acts as a support and try not to act out and let Jason do his thing, things might go well like in the book.
Soon his indecisive thought leaned in to a more decisive end.
“…Okay…I’ll fight.” said Soril.
And to it, the five of them stood in front of the door. As the message counted the candidates, it opened as Jason, Jessabelle, Audrey, Juel and Soril were ready to face off the Goblin king.
“…Good luck.: said Jessica as she waves to Soril with an earnest gaze.
“…” Soril nodded to her words, and to it, they entered the room.
