For I Am A Side Character - 46: Going out to do some Homework
As how the story went with the flow of the book, the academy was able to announce that there would be a week-off for the students since the academy would prioritize on the restoraion of its building.
And during this time, so that we wont be able to waste time during this break, the school was able to leave us with an assignment.
Homework was left.
And this particular homework revolved around the idea of fulfilling the role of being a hunter in a dungeon.
From the alchemy class, we were tasked to make a high-grade potion of any kind. From strength potions or even a mana potion. This would enable us to have a more deep understanding for material usage and the proper materials needed to bring if one wants to be a support for a hunting group.
From the the Combat class, we were assigned to eliminate certain ranks of monsters. From rank-F to rank C at the maximum. One can do this with a group or without a group, the only thing to matter in this situation to is to have an experience with such a rank.
From the Magic class, we were told to study on a new form of magic skill that revolves on a more advanced level, a magic skill that is linked to our own elements.
From the Dungeon Study class, we were told to collect certain materials from a dungeon as a form to have us familiarize these materials.
The other assignments were just typical written essays and homework made through research. The first four are the only physical things one needed to do.
At this point of a story plan, one can probably guest that it was filler…but it isn’t. this is where Jason would have meet a certain someone into his social group, which would then lead him to be introduced to the ‘armadillo knights guild’.
I already know what happens and I’m not really told by the system to interfere with this story…I only needed to protect Miles Millard. So I would only take action in a few days from now after Jason is able to meet the Guild Leader, Miles Millard.
So for now, as my duty as a student I carried me sword and shield and placed them inside my mystical space bag.
The space bag which I gained after completing the side mission yesterday.
“Hmm…cellphone check, water bottle check, lunch box check, sword and shield check…this about does it.” I said to myself as I was preparing to go into a dungeon to complete the Combat Class Assignment.
With what was written in the paper given by the academy, I should hunt four classes of monsters. From rank-F, rank-D, rank-E and rank-C. to gain some evidence I would either take a photo of myself with the corpse and bring its designated body part, like an ear or an toe, or I could take a recording of myself fighting the monster from start to end. Hence why I brought with me, my phone.
“Okay…I guess its time to call her now.” as I picked up my bag, I went for my keys. And I picked my phone to call the only number I have stored.
*Ring* *Ring* *Click*
“…Yeah, I’ll be waiting outside my house….You sure I don’t have to go to the dungeon and meet you there?….really? A surprise?…okay.”
As I ended the call, I came and waited by the door.
Minutes came by and to this, my door bell suddenly rings.
As I opened my door, to my surprise I was met with four people.
The first one I noticed was Jessica who was wearing a full set of armor.
And behind her were three people who I somewhat recognized.
“Hi….Jessica.” I said as I went and shut the door behind me.
“Good morning Soril, I’m guessing from what your wearing, you don’t have a full set of armor.” she said as she crossed her arms.
“Yeah, I don’t have the budget for it…still I plan to take on the Combat Class assignment.” as I went and answered her, I went and gazed forth on the other three.
“Can I ask who those guys are?” I asked.
“Wha-…these guys are your classmates”
“R-really?” seeing as how she told me that they were my classmates, I was starting to recognize their faces.
“You should really try to remember the people in your class. I’m not the only one in class C you know.” seeing as how shocked she was that I didn’t recognized them, I waved to them quite shyly.
“Well, its not like they talk to me…I mean, no one talks to me at class.” I said.
“Hmm, well I can’t blame you. You’re pretty introverted when it comes to other people, because you don’t make the effort to know them.” she said.
“…Right…sorry.”
“Well anyway, these are your classmates.” as she introduced them, they waved back at me with a smile.
There were two girls and one boy about the same height as I was.
And each of them wore armor fit for hunting in the dungeon.
It was already clear that last night after the assignments were posted in the academy’s website, Jessica didn’t wasted anytime on planning for us to go hunting in the dungeon later. I just didn’t expect that she would bring other people with her as well.
“…Hi, nice to finally talk to you, I’m Marilyn, I sit behind you during Dungeon Classes.” said the first girl who carried a staff. From what I can see, she had brunette long hair, had a dark-blue eyes that seemed quite unique and was wearing what a typical mage would usually wear.
“Hi, nice to meet you too.” I said as I approached her in a friendly manner.
And in response, she gladly moved her hand forward in an attempt to shake mine.
“I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you guys earlier…I”m not good with faces or names.” I said as I shook her hand.
“Ah, no its okay…I really wanted to talk to you for a long time. Since you were able to beat Jessica Morrison, the greatest mage of our batch year, I was really curious to know you.” she said with a full smile.
“Oh, well you shouldn’t be nervous. I like to meet new people, maybe we can even talk some more from time to time at school.” I said as I tried to be friendly with her.
“Really? That would be great. Thank you.” seeing as how friendly she was in response, I thought of this interaction to be a success.
And next to greet me was the other girl.
“Hi, you probably don’t recognize me but my name is Zelisha, I’m an Archer class hunter.” she said.
And in the same manner, she was also quite friendly when staring at me straight in the eye…
With her deep green eyes and dark-blonde hair which seems to have blended well with the sun, she might as well have been an elf if it came for a fantasy setting of such.
“Hi, I’m Soril, I think I do know you…sorry if I’m mistaken, but are you the one who was able to craft a high-grade potion in the alchemy class on the second day?” I asked as I remembered back to one random time in the academy.
“I was…thank you for remembering that.”
“It was impressive. The teacher even gave you his compliments.”
As we moved on to the last person, a man who was staring at me with his arms crossed came forward, while he was carrying a giant hammer on his back. In turn, when it was time for his introduction, he Simply nodded his head.
“I’m Soril…” I said as I went and tried to shake his hand.
“…Thors, my name is Thors.” he said as he gave out a heavy and tight grip.
“!?”
The way he received me hand, it was as if he was testing my strength in my grip.
“Oh…its true, it looks like the school didn’t made a mistake about putting you in the top 10.” he said in a smug voice.
“….” being quite taken aback by his presence, Marilyn came by in the middle of our handshake and simply pulled him back.
“I’m sorry about him, he really just likes to test people’s strength at times.” said Marilyn.
“No, don’t worry about it. I like his approach.” in my response to Marilyn excuse, I simply gripped my hand tight and simply made the others know that I don’t back down from a test of strength.
“…Hmm, good.” said Thors as he crossed his arms.
“Anyway…I brought them here with us because I thought it might be fun to have us hunt in a Dungeon together.” said Jessica as she went and tried to calm down the tension between the exchange from me to Thors.
“Hmm, I don’t mind at all.” I said.
“…Like how we talked about it last night, we will first have to go to an easy F-ranked dungeon.
“We were thinking of going to an F-ranked dungeon that’s packed with goblins and orcs and move forth to another dungeon that was filled with a Kobolds. Those two dungeons are quite close to one another, so I think we can cut our time pretty nicely.” said Zelisha.
“…Hmm, okay. That sounds like a plan.” with what I said, Jessica, Marilyn and Zelisha were happy and Thors was as stoic as he naturally could.
With that decided, Jessica brought out her hunter-made vehicle as if in surprise.
As it drove in front of my house, I was surprised to see this car here in this world. It was similar to that of a Humvee, with the exception that almost every inch of its armor had a black coated steel. It felt threatening. And its wheels were as hard and reinforced enough that I can imagine this car to be able to run a normal black bear in half…literally in half.
This Humvee was made for hunters.
“Do you bring this around with you when you go hunting?” I asked Jessica.
“Only when its allowed inside a dungeon, if it can’t, I usually just have it wait for me when I try hunting in cramped spaces like a cave.” explained Jessica.
With how the Humvee was made, it could only fit five people inside, along with the driver. So for that, Thor’s decided to jump in the back.
And seeing as how some of the weapons were a little bit long, some had to be put in the back. So Thors was there, watching over the weapons.
“Ah, right, where are your weapons, Soril?” asked Zelisha.
“I have it here.” I said as I showed them the mystical space bag.
“Wha- is that an Artifact capable of storing items in a subspace. Where you able to get this in a dungeon?” asked Zelisha in surprise of seeing the mystical space bag.
“Yeah, I was lucky enough to find one dropped by a monster.” I said straight in with the lie.
“Lucky…they say that its pretty rare for Artifacts to fall off a monster, and especially an item like this bag.” said Marilyn.
“Hmm, my dad said that these kinds of artifacts go for millions…its comparable to that of a skill book. You must be pretty lucky to have found this.” said Jessica.
“Yeah…I really was.”
Driving our way to the location, when we finally arrived, we were shocked to find a long line of young hunters waiting to get inside the dungeon.
“Whoa…looks like a lot of these guys are from academy. They must have had the same idea as we did.” said Zelisha.
“…Hmm, should we just pick out another dungeon? It looks like it’ll take a lot of time before we can have our turn.” I asked.
“Oh, no need to worry, thanks to my family’s connections, we can easily get through.” said Jessica as she brought out a certain card from her wallet.
“…What’s that?” I asked.
“Privilige.” she said, straightforwardly.
Seeing as how confident Jessica was, she had the driver rode past the line and simply went to the gate. And as the guards stopped us from moving forward, Jessica simply showed her card to the guard.
“Eh- this card…I-I see, please, have a nice day hunting, young miss.” said the guard, nervously.
As we drove past the guards, I was quite impressed by the privilige brought about by the smug Jessica.
“Whoa…that must have been quite a magic artifact you got there.” said Marilyn as she was quite surrpsied to be able to pass through the guards.
“Yeah, they call it a black card. Hahahaha” as Jessica laughs, we were quite happy to be able to pass through without complications.
Meanwhile…
Right behind us..
Another certain Humvee was also passing through the gates.
A Humvee containing three certain characters in a book.
“Whoa, you really were able ot get us through. It must be nice to be rich all the time.” said Jason as he looks to the black card held by Audrey.
“Its nothing special. I use it all the time when I would hunt in a dungeon.” she said with a cold face.
“Hmm, my dad also has that kind of card, but he wouldn’t lend it to me.” said Jessabelle irritatingly.
“Hmm…so this must be how money moves the world.” said Jason as he was quite envious of such a card.
