For I Am A Side Character - 44: Questions for God.
“Right…my name…my name…” in my somber tone, I looked to the god in front of me…
His faceless figure…and transparent body simply endowed me with the realization that Gods are always going to be mysteries…
“What was my name before all of this happened?” I asked him as crossed my arms with the expectation that he would answer…after all, this was my reward.
“I cannot give you your name. When I came to collect your existence from earth, I had to leave your identity…because if I did, you wouldn’t be Soril Remus.” he said as he turned to me with a very depressed tone…which in case tells me that he had no control over my life being brought here….or at least my name.
“I don’t understand…I asked you a question. Please deliver my name.” I said as I tried to plead with him for a sign or a leakage of truth in his request.
“I’ll consider this as one of the question’s I’m allowing you to be told. Names are one of the things that bind’s a man’s soul to his existence. Without a name, you are simply a nameless entity…being nameless means you have no reason for living. I gave you this chance with the exchange of simply putting you in Soril Remus’s body and livelihood…he who once had a sole existence in my world…in this world.”
“That’s cruel… Taking his place for my own, for your own selfish reasons.”
“I love all of those that I create…Soril was one of them but simply put, he was one of the living people who just like you, I gave him a choice when you were at a standpoint of taking the role to be under my commission. But instead of giving him a chance, I let him pick two choices that reflected his very character. To let him deny my offer…or to let him rest.
“…” I was silent in his choice of words.
“I gave him an entire year to contemplate on this decision…to rest and live anew, or to simply live life as it is…”
“For the first five months, he mourned for his sister…”
“For the next three months, he stared at a wall, contemplating at the choices I’ve given him…”
“And the next three months….he lived his life…as much as he could. To travel…to dine in his desires towards the cuisines…to make amends with his family in their graves…”
“And finally for his last month, he wanted to be a hunter…he wanted to be someone who could see the struggles of a life or death situation. To fight and to live freely…by then I thought that he would decide to continue on living…that he would live his life as Soril Remus.”
“But at the last week, he came to me…and he said his choice.”
“In his own words….I’ve made up my mind, let him take my place…and let me be born anew….” said God ass if he represented Soril’s words.
“He gave you his life…appreciate his choice and appreciate his will…” said the God as he looked contemplative at Soril’s decision.
“B-but why? Why did he do it?”
“I’ll consider that your second question. and to answer that, this is something that I can’t say…because if I did, it will have no meaning.
“But I know as a person with life…we Learn and discover… so try for yourself, live for yourself to understand why he choose to let you become Soril Remus. I have put him in a state of rest…to let him wait until one day a reason for his living would come.”
“If a chance arises, I will let him be reborn. You are now Soril Remus. With your Body left dead at Earth and with the deal I made with your God, I simply had to put you to the deal that we made ourselves. Soril will be made anew instead.”
“Why can’t you just pick a soul here instead? Here in Atlanta?” I asked in the folly of this moment.
‘This is your last question…Your soul is not bounded by the fates and strings of my plan, that was why I came to another World managed by your God. Your soul is free from all the interventions of fate…after all, I did not make you. While the souls here are following my plan. The system may guide you in the missions needed to be fulfilled, but because you are free, I can never comprehend where you might go.”
“…Its reckless. If I made a mistake, everything about your plan will fall apart.”
“I am not afraid, after all, I know what you are, I know who you are…I know you wouldn’t fail me.”
“…You don’t know me…after all, you said that I wasn’t your creation.”
“That’s true…but in all likeliness, we all see as something of a similarity. I can call you be three different descriptions…Your Kind…you are strong…and you are now Soril Remus. Take that to heart and let it be as it may…”
“…You’re a bad god…You really are.”
“Is that all the questions that you need to be answered. From what I can see, your very curious about Soril Remus’s life…So I’ll tell you at least this much.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“In time, you will gain the history of what Soril Remus had to live through in his life…you will learn about him in small glimpse as you live life as you can…Soril Remus, you will gain your memories.”
“…That seems personal.”
“It is…but either way, I know your still curious about everything in this life and your past…so keep those question in notes. And once we can meet again, you can ask me everything else that you want.”
“Okay…I understand.” I said as I gained the a small sense of closure of my own identity…or at least a few information of me being in this world.
“With that said, Here is your new mission.” as God raises his hand, the system showed me a new mission.
[Mission #4: Prevent the Death of Miles Millard, The Leader of the Armadillo Knights Guild.]
[Rewards: [Reward: 15+ System points.]
[Failure: Will Lead to the Death of one of the Main Characters in the Story.]
[Time Limit: 3 weeks]
“!?…isn’t the drawback from this mission a little intense? If I failed, one of the main characters will die?” I asked in frustration.
“…This is how you influence the world Soril, be that as it may, you must succeed, for the stake are now higher than before.” said the God.
“Right…Miles Millard, so that means we’re coming up to the end of the first volume of the book.” I said.
“Yes, in this moment, Jason will encounter a new addition to his group aside from Jessabelle Morrison. In it, as you remember from the book, this will trigger Jason to meet Miles Millard in the notion that Miles Millard is interested in having Jason join his Guild. While this happens, conflict will arise and Miles Millard will eventually die as in the book…I want you to save his life…to have him notice your existence…”
“…Its weird, Isn’t Audrey Yagami also a part of his group? In this kind of development, I thought that Jason would have been meet with the Black Rose Guild…and in it, conflict might arise.” I asked since in a certain manner, a similar situation was brewing in the Black Rose Guild, a Heridetal Conflict.
“Hmm, the book does not mention the Black Rose guild until in the later volumes…right now, you must deal with the problem at hand. Save Miles Millard.” said God.
“…Okay, I understand.” as we came to an end of our talk, the God gazes upon the characters beside me and he simply smirked.
“Hmm…The Sergeant and the Flashy Audrey Yagami, to think that your actions of trying to prevent this small occurrence in the story would have lead to them being involved rather than Jason himself and as well as Jessabelle and Miss Fien.”
“I didn’t expect it to happen as well…but they were helpful, I can expect that we were probably able to cut our time in half compared to the original situation written in the book.” I said as I turned to look at the two.
“Well, either way, their intervention will most likely not affect the further stories…as long as you were able to complete the dungeon, everything should move as it should.” said the God as he then slowly becomes more transparent in front of me.
“Right.”
“…Soril…I’m expecting great things from you, so simply move on forward.” as he said this, it was clear that those were his last words.
“Goodbye God…I’ll see you again sometime.”
“Goodbye Soril…and Good Luck.”
With our exchange of goodbyes, the god dissipated into thin air and time was slowly reverting back to its normal state.
“Hmm, What should we do about the rewards?” asked the sergeant as he gazes upon the book in front of the shrine.
“I say we give it to the academy…They’ll probably do something about.” said Audrey as she also leans into the book.
“Well, it might be best. This is a skill book, and we don’t know what kind of skill it holds, so giving it to the Academy might be best.” said the sergeant.
“…” I on the other hand, simply stared at the shrine, not caring enough of the skill in the book.
“You don’t have any complaints right?” asked the sergeant as he asked me.
“…” I simply nodded my head and in it, we made the decision to grab the book.
As soon as the sergeant was able to lift the book up, it was the start of the collapse of the entire dungeon. From top to bottom…in this moment, the dungeon would revert back to its normal state. As if by a miracle of god, this entire environment underground would be nothing but dirt once again.
And as the dungeon was reverting back, the three of us inside the shrine was then shined by a beam of light that would naturally occur at every end of a dungeon raid. In this conclusion, we would be brought back up to the entrance of the dungeon and in it, this would be the end of my side mission.
In the glimpse of all light that came, our bodies felt light and in it, we were instantly transported to a random forest in the middle of nowhere.
“…This must be the entrance to the dungeon.” said the sergeant as he then started looking around.
“Hmm, looks like it wasn’t so far from the academy.” there, he pointed to a certain direction which lead to the sight of the academy’s place.
“Its a few kilometers from here, but if we run, we can probably get there in mere minutes.” said the sergeant.
“Right…” as Audrey agreed, she turned to me in a curious manner and simply went quiet.
“Oh right…your still keeping your identity…okay then, since your keeping this act to its end, we’ll just go on ahead.” said the sergeant as he tries to be considerate of my situation.
And in return, I just nodded my head in thanks.
“…”in Audrey’s reaction, she simply did not push forth the complications of me hiding my face.
“Lets go.” as soon s the sergeant lead the run back to the academy, Audrey hesitantly followed while I remained back.
Meanwhile, a few minutes back in the academy, as the hunters were still fighting the army of golems running rampant in the field, all of a sudden their attacks stopped and they fell one by one to the floor.
In this sudden change, it was clear to the professor, that it has ended.
“Hmm, looks like O’riley was able to end it…Good.” as he said this, he turned to the damages in the area…the academy was attacked on about a quarter of its building structure was ruined…
“Hmm, it’ll probably take a week for us to fix this with magic.” he said to himself as he felt a migraine pop up in his head.
“Professor, is this the end?” asked one of the hunters.
“it is…okay then, lets all assist the injured and restore back the place.” as the Professor immediately made calls to assist the aftermath, out by the distance, Jason and Jessabelle were found tired and drained out of their mana.
“Haa…haa…its finally over.” said Jason as he was sweating like a madman.
“…Hmm, the black-haired wench isn’t around, where do you think she could be?” asked Jessabelle as she was curious about Audrey’s disappearance.
“Hmm, she must have been fighting on the other side of the field.” said Jason.
“Now come on, lets help the others back to the medical area.” he added. In his adventurous nature, he quickly assisted the notion to help those in need.
“right…”
In this end, the attack was over…and the academy was left in ruins.
Meanwhile, inside the medical room, a certain girl was waiting with a basket filled with sandwiches…
‘…Soril.’ in her call for his name, her worried expression only grew.
