For I Am A Side Character - 36: Its Just A Side Mission.
Deep underground, in a place where no man could ever enter, where no entrance nor exit exist, lays a dungeon that was categorized as a [Locked Dungeon].
Compared to other dungeons where once one is completed, its entire environment is erased and to it, the man who completes the dungeon is rewarded with a skill under God’s shrine of order. But for a Locked Dungeon, this was the kind of dungeon where the only way to remove it from its place and restore the environment was to possess a key.
Once a key is found, one would simply turn the lock and the dungeon would be set free, and they would have access to the shrine under God’s orders. But as long as one doesn’t have access to the key…that dungeon remains forever locked and secured on its place.
The only way to attain a key for a specific kind of dungeon is through the access of finding it all over the world of Atlanta. It could be hidden anywhere…and to people’s triumph, only two locked dungeon keys were found and were able to have access to the locked dungeons. Although it may seem impossible, the only way to find a key’s location was through the context of a set of riddled poems made by the dungeon itself at the very entrance.
But the riddles weren’t hard per say, the only problem was that once the Riddle was figured out, the process of searching for the key through its intended place was much more than what a hunter could have expected. At some points, the two found dungeon keys were said to be found at one of the most extreme places found throughout atlanta.
The first key was found deep under water…around 30,000 meters deep. A pressure of this strong underwater seemed impossible for any hunter…for any machine to withstand…but through the help of one S-ranked hunter that was fluent in the water arts of magic, they were able to gain access to the key.
The second key was found at a dungeon that was ranked to be SS+ ranked…this kind of difficulty needed the assistance of at least 10 S-ranked hunters to attain the key. In the end, not a single hunter was lost, but all were scarred by the tragedies they faced inside the SS+ ranked dungeon.
And through these sacrifices and trials, two locked gates were freed and completed.
For the people of Atlanta to go this far to erase these kinds of dungeons only meant one thing.
A Locked Dungeon was dangerous. Very dangerous. Not because of the difficulty it brought, but the tragedy it could inflict.
Locked Dungeons, although rare, had the capacity to devour the world of Atlanta. It was a parasite that would slowly grow and would slowly eat away at the environment.
It was very necessary that once a Locked Dungeon was said to discovered, it should be reported through the higher ranked officials.
Currently, there are 10 locked dungeons found throughout the world, and out of those 10, 7 were still being studied on the location of its Key, while the other 3 were on the process of getting the key.
Now, other than those 10 discovered locked dungeons, another was undiscovered simply beneath the very grounds of the well known City, The Diamond Reef City.
Because of its location, not a single person suspected that a locked dungeon was growing underneath…expanding its influence like a parasite. All the people in the city were oblivious except two people…
Underground, a man was found carrying a lamp and walking deep in the roots of the many tunnels dug underground.
He was a mage…
A man capable of manipulating the very nature of the Geo/Rock element. A GeoMage. And with him was his army of Rock Golems and Giant Moles.
For an entire year, he has prepared a rising army underground. With the numbers that passed over 100,000 golems and 2000 moles, the mage was simply rising through his own power each day.
As one might think, a number of that size would have been impossible with just his own control itself, but that wasn’t the case when it involved the very nature of this particular partnership between him and the Locked Dungeon.
As one would know, Locked Dungeons were parasites that devour anything that was in there path…and by coincidence, this dungeon met a certain man with the ability to raise an army of rock was given the chance to gain an overpowering ability.
One would say that their meeting was by fate…by a higher being will…
But it couldn’t matter less to the mage…
He was mad.
Angry at the world.
And very much as power hungry as any other bastard there was in the world.
For an entire year…he had prepared the very army all for the purpose of conquering the city above them.
“I will rain down upon them like the ants that they were…and they will all see just how powerful I am. And no one…no one will ignore me ever again!” he said to himself as he finally created his last golem for the day.
“Finally…the day has come that I will finally attain the one thing that I purely deserved…wait for me…Camelot Academy.”
“As long as I have the key…as long as it is hidden…no one…no one will get in my way.”
Meanwhile, as this sinister mage was preparing to go to war against the city, up above the grounds, a certain boy was found simply walking around the academy…staring at the very floor below him.
“Hmm…it should be now that he’s going to make his attack…or did I remember it wrong?”
As Soril stood on the open fields of the academy, he was here to scout the area that was supposedly where the mage would come through.
In this moment, he knew that a certain mage would come and attack the school first all for the goal of invading the city next.
But even though when the story involved the crazed mage who was out for blood and war, it was never really as threatening as they made it sound.
One thing to consider was that the mage was weak…very weak.
His physicality was only that of around a D-ranked hunter…something that a teacher could easily handle. The only problem was his army of a over 100,000 golems and 2000 giant moles…and the support of the Locked Dungeon.
Although the number is quite threatening, it could easily be dealt with using the only item to crush its army in a single use.
Meaning the Key to the Locked Dungeon.
Soril knows that the mage has the key…he knows that once the key is used in the locked dungeon, every golem and mole will simply fall apart as the dungeon loses it power.
So with that said, as long as the story goes forth as usual by the description of the book, nothing bad will happen.
As he looked at the description of his mission, he sighed…
[Side Mission #3: Find the Key and Insert it into the Locked Dungeon.]
[Rewards: Gain the Mystical Space Bag.]
[Time Limit: 7 hours and 49 minutes left.]
Based off of the mission’s description, it didn’t tell Soril to defeat the crazed mage himself…instead, he only had the job of ending the wave of the golems.
This mission was given to him about 11 minutes ago…right before class has even started…and because he received this mission, he was as alert as he was in observing any changes in the academy. He carried with him his own standard set of weapons.
And although it was branded as a side mission, he knew just how destructive the army was in the end of the story…he was able to read on the story that half of the academy was crushed by the marching army made of stone and boulder. So he had to act fast on this mission.
“Hmm…ah.” and to his patience, he suddenly felt the ground shake…the building wobble…and the trees rustling.
“…He’s here.” and to his quote, all of a sudden, an explosion was heard on the other side of the academy.
“!!?” and to his shock, he found out that he was waiting at the wrong spot where the mage came out with his army.
“Shit!”
The book described that the mage came out of a flat field under the domain of the Academy’s land, but to Soril’s knowledge…there were two flat domains in the academy…
One was a place that garnered a garden…
And the other which was in front of the academy…one that stored the track and field course for the athletes.
Yet to his guess, he was waiting at the garden. He was really wrong in his assumption, so to make up for his mistake, he ran straight to where that explosion came from without any halt.
As he ran up to there, he was thinking of the development of this story…how things would go by the book.
At first…the mage would come out and try cause as much ruckus as possible to call in the attention of the Principal of the academy. His long deep rooted hatred for the man was what motivated him to raise his army…
And as he did so, teachers would come one by one to try to settle the situation by taking down the Mage himself.
As the fight would start, Professor Morrison was the person who came and handled the mage all by himself. While he did that, the other teachers went and handled the marching army by themselves as well as trying to evacuate the students who were in close proximity to the incident.
To the sheer coincidence of it all, Jason was also there on where the Golem’s were closing in. It was him and Jessabelle who went and assisted the teachers as well in evacuating the students.
The fight between the teachers and the golems would last for hours…and to this, it could be seen that by the half end, Professor Morrison would be seen injured and having a hard time against the mage.
It would be a shocking situation to find out that one of the strongest mage was having a hard time against an unknown mage, but because of the support from the Locked Dungeon, it was possible for the Crazed mage to overthrow the Professor…
And also because, the professor could not go all out against the mage. Compared to the crazed mage who was not bounded by any limits at all, Professor Morrison was bounded by the very academy that he works for. If Professor Morrison were to unleash his potential to take out the crazed mage, it would surely inflict damage against the Academy as well. He knows this…so he could not go all out.
So as the Professor was somewhat cornered, Jason would step in and fight the mage along with Jessabelle who was quite angry by the fact that her father was shackled by the school’s own property. And along them, Miss Fien, their Combat instructor would also help to fight the mage…while Morrison would change his target to the Golems instead.
As the fight would continue with Jason leading on, the fight will now then end with the Mage’s defeat…but even when the mage was defeated, the Golems still marched on ahead…to it, the Mage laughs by the end, saying that they won’t be stopped and will never be stopped since it belongs to the Locked Dungeon.
And seeing their expression…they were ultimately shocked by this.
So as quick as they could, with their knowledge about the Locked Dungeons. They went into the hole that the mage came out of and they would read the Riddle for the location of the key.
In the end, by the time they figured out where the key was…all the golems were already annihilated by Professor Morrison and some other hunters that came from some guilds and to it, they were able to give the key to the Principal in orders that he is the one who will deal with the Locked Dungeon personally.
In the end, they could not stop the Mage on time…but they were able to locate the key which was what could end all of this trouble.
Seeing as how this is what would normally happen in the book, Soril plans to simply skip pass the fight between Jason and the Mage and he would simply focus on the idea of looking for the key.
He already knows where it is located, the only problem left is the challenges that comes with searching for the place that the mage hid the key.
As he arrived at the other field, he was meet with screams and rushing students away from the battle before him.
“Hmm…right, lets do this.” as he said this, he ran pass some of the students that were running away from the golems and to it, he made it to where the main battle was happening.
Seeing thatthey were in a track and field course, a lot of materials were found laying around on the ground. To it, he saw a few things that could be useful in his infiltration to the Dungeon.
He carried with him a standard set of weapons, a simple sword and a simple shield, to it, he also used his uniform and wrapped it around his face to conceal his identity. He didn’t want to be figured out by the teachers on what he was about to do…so he had to be careful.
With his face fully wrapped in his uniform, no one could tell who he was.
“…” and to it, he ran straight into the battle with no hesitation at all.
