For I Am A Side Character - 30: Soril Vs Jessabelle
With a broken blade on hand, Jason felt that his options were turning less and less.
With a number of blades piercing through his stomach, he could feel himself drifting into a transive state of sleepiness…he could not keep his eyes open any longer than he could manage.
So he was left to do something he would usually never use on a human before.
He would use a skill that could ultimately kill.
Compared to his skill, the 1st blooming sword which he is able to control with mind and reason, this other skill that he learned on the Arcane sword arts was a skill he had no control over once it was used.
Like that of a newly made bike, with no proper installations of brakes of any kind, Jason had just learned this skill only a few days ago in a dungeon and to it, he had no proper control.
He would only leave it to chance.
With his ever so declining breaths taken little by little, he had made his choice…
With Conner standing on top of him, he knew his victory was set on. The fact that he knew his victory was set turned his ego into a full-blown smirk, causing him to loosen his guard and relax his muscles.
But as he stood ever so victorious, he heard a mumbling tone coming from Jason’s direction,
“Arcane Sword Arts: Slashing Fault of the External Divine.”
To it, the next thing he knew was that a flash of light appeared before him that caused him to be temporarily blind and off of his feet. Next was darkness…and last was the lost of consciousness.
He had lost…and Jason had won.
The crowd was shocked as they had seen jason overturn the tides of his losing condition.
Slowly but surely, he stood up from the floor and looked to the crowd that was chanting and cheering his name.
““OOhhhhhH!!!””
““JASON!!””
““JASON!!””
““JASON!!””
““JASON!!””
““JASON!!””
““JASON!!””
He felt an overwhelming sense of victory pour all over his body and he graciously accepted the glory of his win. With it, he raised his broken blade and made a gesture only a winner could over make.
To this gesture, the crowd cheered even more and to it, he knew he had won.
As he stood bleeding in the middle of the stage, a pair of trained nurses quickly approached him and tended to his injuries and also, another pair of nurses also went to tend Conner who stood unconscious on the floor below.
With the two being tended by the healers, it was set to see that the battle was over and to it, slowly but surely the students/crowds knew that the battle was over. So the made their way out of the training center and to it, they left. Among those many crowds was Jessica who was astonished by the ending of the battle. Jason being able to overturn the tides and claim victory caused her not just to be in awe of his power but admire him for his great victory.
She idolized him then and there for what he did. And as she left the training center as well as the rest, all of a sudden, a speaker phone’s echo was heard across the field.
In the middle of that field came a teacher that was rather familiar to Jessica. That teacher was none other than Sergeant O’riley who put himself forward to assist the duel between the students.
“Ahem!…By the laws of the academy and the laws of a warriors code, a 2nd duel has been set in today’s manner. On the left is Jessabelle Morrison, second ranking student overall!”
In his manner of introduction, Jessabelle came and walked with a cold and toned expression on her face. With it, she had a rather vicious smirk intact.
“…Jessabelle.” as Jason walked out of the stage, being assisted by the nurse’s to be sent to the nursing room, he called out to Jessabelle in his simple curiousity.
“Looks like you won, good for you.” she said as she turned to Jason with a confident expression.
“…” Looking rather tired, the nurses pulled him away.
Meanwhile…as this announcement was sent all over the training field, almost immediately, it caught the ears and eyes of the students who were just leaving. To their curiosity, the rushed back to the front to see who and what was going to happen.
Jessabelle Morrison was a woman who has a great reputation overall in the forms of hunting and academic record. To this, most of the students in the first year knew of her name. And because she was about to have a duel today, it simply caught their attention and curiosity on who was their to fight her. One of those students was Jessica was who extra worried since she had a bad feeling in her gut seeing how a certain someone had a bad reputation with Jessabelle Morrison.
“…oh god, please tell me its not who I think it is…”
“…And on the right is Soril Remus, tenth ranking student overall. You two have decided on your own terms that you will commit to this duel…and that the winner will have his/her say towards the other.” said Sgt. O’riley.
And to his announcement out came Soril came walking out of the halls of the center and into the stage.
“!?” and to this, Jessica was shocked through all her beliefs.
“…” Hamil walked into the stage wearing nothing but a leather vest armor and leather pants armor and his usual pair of a standard sword and shield.
He was simply looking like a normal beginner hunter in front of the crowd, and to this, it was already made bias to say that this duel was going to be quick and easy for Jessabelle.
The students chattered with one another, talking to who this student was to fight Jessabelle. Because unlike her, he was simply not yet known in the entire first year batch. But Jessica knew…and to it, she was worried to her core.
So she screamed at him.
“Soril!!!”
“…!?” and to her call, he turned his head to where her voice was.
“What are you doing!?” she screamed her question.
“…Jessica.” having heard of her, he noticed who’s voice this was.
“Get out of there!…Please! You can’t win!” she screamed in her desperate manner.
“…” To her statement, he knew she was worried for him. He didn’t think of it as her looking down on him, instead…she wanted to warn him…to tell him not to get himself needlessly hurt.
And to her screams, he only bowed his head as thanks for her worries.
“.…Soril.” and to that gesture, Jessica knew then and there…that she couldn’t stop him.
“hmm, looks like you got yourself a petty girlfriend there.” said Jessabelle as she was looking ever so mockful.
“She’s a friend…either way, I know that your very eager to fight me…so please, now that I’m here…healthy and in my full condition, I’m all yours.” as Soril said this, he pointed his sword to her and gesture himself to her that he was ready.
“Hmph!…Don’t think so much of yourself you bastard…after this fight, Your just going to be a forgetful bastard just like any other who came across me.” and to her taunt, she brought out her Magic Staff. And with it, she was quickly oozing with a fearful presence to Soril.
“The winner is granted a right for a request towards the loser, but there are some wishes that cannot be allowed under the laws of the academy. No death shall be committed in this duel in an act of intention and no requests towards death of any kind. Other than that, any request will be granted under reason. Once I ring the bell, the battle shall commence. You have fifteen minutes before the bell rings again, where once it is done, the battle has ended…no rest are given and no timeouts are made…the rules are the same as before. If there are no defeats yet made after those fifteen minutes of passing, I shall be the once to choose the winner of this duel. Do I make myself clear?” ”
“yes…” said Soril in a nervous yet rather calm manner.
“Yes.” said Jessabelle hurriedly, as she was ever so eager to make the first move.
“Good! with that said and agreed upon, let the duel commence!”
*TING!!*
The moment the bell rang, Jessabelle did not hesitate for one bit in her attacks. For in the second that came from the bell’s ring, the stage was quickly filled with a rain of mana spears from above.
“!!?” to Soril’s notice, he quickly pushed his shield up to protect himself.
“You think a little shield like that can protect you!? I don’t think so!!” with her aggravating words, she rained down on Soril with her many mana spears.
The moment those spears dropped, Soril had to take them all…
***
Jessabelle Morrison.
What I know about her was limited.
From her attacks, she probably knows all the basic skill like Mana detection, mana shield, mana cannon, mana reinforcement and mana spears.
With her talents in the aspects of magic skills, she is capable enough to even bend the mana spear’s direction to her will. No ordinary mage can ever do that at such a young age. The strength behind each mana spear is powerful enough to even bend the iron in half…it was like she was always in a state of mana rush. And with its number’s that goes even beyond the dozens paired with her ability to do a chantless use of this skill, she was a defined and refined genius.
Along with those basic skills, she has a strong compatibility with the element of fire. With this, she was able to conjure fireballs at quite the sizes and power, which I can only presume can also move by her will.
Paired with that, she has a unique skill that was gained from the dungeon.
Flamestral Vines.
The ability to conjure vines from the ground and have them bring pink flames capable of burning a man in mere minutes to his death. Their reaction ability to perceive its target is quite fast and with it, they also have a strong property almost like steel but along with it, it also has a strong regenerative property. Which means that if I ever plan to cut the “Flamestral Vines”, it won’t just end there that easily.
Over all, these were the abilities I witnessed her use. Even when I think back to the first volume of the book given to me by god, there wasn’t much information about her abilities…all the book ever focused on was the story, and mostly it was about Jason Emory as its focus.
Looking at everything that I knew about her, one would think that she was overpowered with her age, and you were right. But there was one thing I never forgot about her on our first time meeting one another in the entrance exam. And that she was weak.
More so, she was physically weak.
The one time she punched me in the face, I barely felt any pain from her fist at all…this gave me the chance to attack her.
Despite her strong magic attacks, if she was that weak at punching, it would also lead me to think that she was weak overall…
She was probably something more like a glass cannon…
To it, I knew I had a chance against her.
***
As the dozens of spears rained down on the stage, Jessabelle was confident to think that even despite the fact that Soril had blocked, she knew she had done enough damage to slow him down. She knew that he was fast at a certain level…something that she wasn’t capable of doing.
Remembering back to yesterday, when they first had their subject on the Combat class with Miss Fien, it was a merging of two sections taking over the training centre. In that moment, she saw Soril Remus demonstrate their compatibility with his combat class partner. And as she witnessed the battle, she was sure of herself…
Soril Remus was strong…
Soril Remus was fast…
Soril Remus was not someone who she should take lightly…
And most of all…Soril Remus was someone who had a chance against her…
Knowing that, she didn’t hesitate to even hold back her attacks.
The moment the bell rang, she fired at a constant speed targeted to his way…with mana spears raining down, she knew she had made an adequate amount of damage against him. But even then, it wasn’t enough.
As the raining of spears stopped from above, she waited for the result of her attack…the stage was filled with a cloud of dust from her attack. Seeing it so, her visibility towards Soril was limited.
*Swish~~!*
And to it, a Mana spear was thrown back to her at an incredible speed.
“!?”
It was coming at her at the speed of a bullet, to it, she quickly pulled up a mana shield to protect herself. She then again, conjured a dozen mana spears behind her for security.
And yet again, another mana spear was fired.
*Swish~~!*
It struck down on her shield, and this time, it had more power behind it. It was powerful enough that it even caused her shield to crack.
‘…that was stronger…he’s probably influencing his mana spears with mana rush…fucking bastard is that desperate. Tsk!’ she thought.
The next thing that happened, dozens of mana spears suddenly flew through the clouds of dust that was blocking her view. All of those spears were fast…strong…and most of all, it was a distraction. One by one, each spear struck her shield and little by little, she was being pushed back out of the stage.
“Damn it!” being frustrated that she was pushed back, she made the choice to use her unique skill.
“Flamestral Vines.”
With the use of this skill, she used them as whips and countered each and every mana spears that were coming her way. To it, they were easily pushed aside.
Accurate and powerful, the Flamestral vines had never failed her once before.
But even with this, Soril still hasn’t got out of the Clouds of dust in the stage…
So she decided to push him out herself.
Without even chanting one spell, a ball of fire suddenly formed in front of her and she fired it.
With attack making its way to the dust of clouds, she then caused it to explode by her will. The explosion was weak, buts its ability to move the winds caused every dust clouds to dissipate into thin air.
Leaving her with an opne view to Soril, but as the dust was cleared, she saw not a speck of a body left…
“…!?” Soril was nowhere to be found.
