For I Am A Side Character - 20: My First Day at the Academy
Having been placed as the rank-10 participant to have enrolled himself into the United Camelot Academy, I was hyped. I gained a free scholarship thanks to my own blood and spit.
This was going to be a new experience for me seeing as how it certainly revolves around the fantasy setting.
I have one month left for the 3rd quest given to me by the system.
[Mission #3: Conquer a Dungeon.]
[Rewards: [Reward: 3 questions for God & 10+ System points.]
[Failure: You will be submitted with a curse that will last a whole month ]
[Time Limit: 29 days ]
Seeing it as how it is, I have a lot of time on my hands. So with that, I can simply rest for a bit after what I experienced in the playground made by my master and brother.
With that said, after putting on my uniform given by the academy, I made my way to the academy by train. It only takes about 30 minutes or so, so seeing as how I woke at 7:00 am where school starts at 8:30 am, one could say that I was a moderately early bird.
The moment I got in the train, it was quickly packed by a variety of people who were just like back on earth. People with suits and briefcases, students yawning, a teenager playing his music out in the open and even an old man who coughs with no etiquette to even cover his mouth, it was just like back on earth.
Seeing this, some things just don’t change as much.
So I sighed…
***
Thirty minutes had passed and exactly by its schedule, the train stopped in front of the academy’s station.
There, about Fifty people got off. Seeing this ratio of students, it seems like not a lot of the students are capable of riding here by their own vehicles. Instead, when I looked to the gates, I saw rows of students with their cars getting off. One by one, you can easily tell that they live in the upper class of society.
“…” but I didn’t mind it.
I was more focused on the idea of where I might just be placed in today’s semester.
Knowing Soril’s background in the book, he was in the same class as the other characters which was in Class-A. The first and most rich class section there is that the academy can place a student in.
Seeing that there are over 250 students in the first year department, the academy was able to divide them in five sections each.
Basing off of what I remembered in the academy, most of the important characters are placed in these sections.
Class A:
-Jason Emory [Protagonist]
-Jessabelle Morrison [Female Protagonist]
-Audrey Yagami [Side Female Protagonist]
-Soril Remus [Disposable Character]
Class B:
-John Bishop.[Side Character]
-Conner O’neil.[Antagonist]
The story mainly revolved around the two sections with all of these characters, both A and B.
So to my curiosity of this faction of placements, I looked to the board and tried to find where I was placed.
And to my shock, I was completely befuddled.
Something has changed in the positions of some of the Character’s placement.
Class A:
-Jason Emory [Protagonist/ 3rd placer in the Simulation test]
-Jessabelle Morrison [Female Protagonist/2nd placer in the Simulation test]
-Audrey Yagami [Side Female Protagonist/ 1st placer in the Simulation test]
Class B:
-John Bishop.[Side Character/4th placer in the Simulation test]
-Conner O’neil.[Antagonist]/5th placer in the Simulation test
-Robert Oliver-[7th placer in the Simulation test]
Class C:
-Soril Remus [NPC/8th placer in the Simulation test]
-Jessica Young [6th placer in the Simulation test]
Class D:
-Oliver Cracker [9th placer in the Simulation test]
-Rudy Tumble-[10th placer in the Simulation test.]
As for class E, I wasn’t really so sure who the people were placed in that section. So I didn’t bother to look.
All I made sure to remember were these 9 people. After all, they were the ones who had placed a good rank within the simulation test. Me being the 8th ranker, it’s a good place to stand by.
Seeing as how I was placed on Class-C made me worry since this might possibly change the story written in the book. And seeing who I was classmates with Jessica Young, I was a bit relieved to see her as well. Seeing as how we said goodbye in good terms, we might be able ot be good friends on this semester.
Anyway, now that it was clear on where I was positioned, I made my way to where my classroom was.
As I went inside the academy, I was surprised to see that most of the students were told by the teachers to go to the orientation meeting in the Training center before going to their respective classrooms.
So I followed their call and simply went with the flow. By the time I arrived at the training center, I got view of a number of students lining up in their respective sections.
There, I went and lined up at section C. as I positioned myself well, I waited until the orientation would start.
By then, while I was waiting, somebody tapped by back, so as I turned around, I was surprised to see Jessica waving my way and saying hi.
“Oh my god, I can’t believe we’re classmates.” she said looking as excited as I was.
“Yeah, me too. Never thought that we get to go in the same class.” I said back to her.
“I know right? Anyway, do you remember my proposal last time?” she asked.
“Proposal?” I asked, not remembering well enough of our last meeting.
“You know, how I said that if we both get in, you and I can be sparring partners.” she said.
“Oh yeah…that. Hmm, seeing as how we are classmates, sure why not.” I said.
“Great, I look forward to just how much we can grow and learn from each other.” she said, excitingly so.
Soon after our reunion, the head principal finally came and approached the stadium with a speech.
The speech went on for about thirty minutes, talking about honor and how we had to steel ourselves for the war against the demons. Then he ended it by introducing the student that placed first out of all the first years in the academy.
Walking up the stage, Audrey Yagami came with her ever so cold expression.
‘As expected as much from master’s grandniece.’ I thought as I was impressed to see her placed as the strongest first year in the academy.
Soon as the orientation ended, we all finally went to our respective classes.
But as we were walking back, I suddenly felt some murderous intent glaring at the back of my head. To my curiosity, I turned around and saw that Jessabelle Morrison was glaring at me with dagger-like eyes.
“!?”
I froze in place as she stared at me like a hawk.
“…What’s wrong?” asked Jessica as she noticed my predicament.
“N-nothing.” I said as I turned back to walking forward.
“By the way, I noticed that you got a lot more thinner compared to the last time I saw you.” said Jessica as she glanced my way.
“Oh, yeah…I got into a really rough situation when I was hunting in a dungeon by my own. I wasn’t able to eat for three days because of a monster that trapped me in its nest. Because of it, I couldn’t get out.” I said as I lied at the skin of my teeth. I couldn’t tell her about the playground, so instead I told her a plausible situation that could easily be made believable by my level and power.
“Really? That must have been rough. Are you talking about the Insect-like monsters that were infesting the train station?” asked Jessica.
“Yeah, were you also hunting there?” I asked.
“No, bugs creep me out, especially spiders.” said Jessica.
“Really? Seeing as how well you use your sword, I don’t think you would have an issue with dealing those kinds of monsters.”
“Hey, just because I’m good as a whip, doesn’t mean that my phobias still don’t kick in. They do and it really turns me into a worst fighter then what you could imagine. ” said Jessica.
“Hmm, I guess.”
***
“Okay everyone, go to your respective seats by the plan, and lets get started.” said a man that was carrying a clipboard on hand. With his silky brunette hair that was braided into a Dutch style, the man looked into the fifty students in front of him and he smirked.
“Hmph! For a bunch of C-class looking goblins, you guys sure are plenty. Last year, we only got about 150 students to pass the test, seeing as how it rose almost to a double, means that you Goblins are just that good…or did the academy just got softer?”
““….”” to is question, the whole class was silent.
Me and Jessica weren’t sitting together, seeing as how I was put in the middle front and she was placed in the middle rear, we were completely separated from one another.
“The answer to that question will only appear at the test that you will take this Midterm…that’s two months away.” he said, looking ever so boustful.
“Now, I know that some of you here were able to secure one of the top ranks in the academy…mostly, two of you!” Shouting like a Drill Sergeant, he looks to the two of us with a satisfied reaction.
“Jessica Young! Soril Remus! may you two please stand up and great yourselves in front of the whole class.”
With that said, both of us nervously stood up and looked to our classmates.
“Jessica being ranked 8th and Soril being ranked 10th, one could say that they have the capability to be a top ranker, right?”
““….””
“Wrong!”
“Those positions are nothing but the lowest of the low! Especially you Soril Remus! What do you think made you place as the 10th ranking student, seeing as how you were able to beat Miss Jessica in combat?”
“Uhm…my academics sir. I had difficulty answering the papers.” I said nervously.
He was indeed like a sergeant.
“Good! Now you see class, it isn’t all just about strength and what not, its also about the brains! The brains are what makes the fight GOOD!”
““….””
“Now how about you Miss Jessica Young? From the Young Merchant Company!? Why did you place somewhere as low as 8th? Hmmm!???”
“…Its…its because I had a low mana capacity.” she said.
“Wrong! Its because you suck ass! Its not about mana, its about F**cking capability!”
He cursed at the students without even a single thought of doubt and it shocked all of us.
“Capability…it is the key to a fight!”
““….””
“My name is Sergeant O’riley, I was damn good man back when I was a soldier that fought against those damn Demons! You will address me as Mr. O’riley and nothing else of the matter. Is that clear?”
““….””
“I said, Is that Clear!?”
“S-sir yes sir…” I said, nervously looking at him.
“When I ask for Clarification, you say ‘Yes Sir!’. Shout with pride, shout with honor. I’m going to raise the lot of you to be well trained soldiers by the end of the F**cking semester. Do you understand me!?”
““Yes Sir!””
By that day, it felt like I was heading into a camp rather than an Academy.
