Chapter 60: A Small Dinner Party

“Ike-kun, you never come home empty-handed, huh? You’re always achieving great things.”

Before me, there stood King Gilga with a happy smile on his face. But, he wasn’t sitting on his usual throne. We were gathered around a round table, having a meal together. Not just King Gilga though. There were Luna, Alisa, Lycoris, Marsha-nee and even King Veiron from the Elf Kingdom.

This was a simple dinner party to celebrate not only the destruction of a Demon Lord Worshiper’s base in the Elf Kingdom, but also to build diplomatic relations with the Elf Kingdom. Neither Luna nor I wanted to flaunt our achievements. After all, broadcasting our accomplishments would only bring forth unnecessary new enemies. 

“Perhaps… You’re trying to drain our kingdom’s treasury dry? Well, given your triumphant return, I don’t really have anything to complain about.”

King Gilga said while shaking his head exaggeratedly. 

“Not at all. I was just lucky.”

“What a genuine humility, Ike-kun. There’s no way you could achieve so many great things out of pure luck.”

King Gilga once again sighed in an exaggerated way. 

“I’m honored to receive your praise.”

Mimicking King Gilga’s action, I also bowed in an exaggerated way. But to be honest… Everything just ended up working in that way. I really didn’t have any intention to make a great achievement or anything. I was just trying to make sure I could have my happy married life with Luna. Our goals just happened to be the same. 

“King Gilga, I truly apologize. I would love to have this conversation going in the Elf Kingdom’s royal palace, but our palace is under repair due to the recent attack by the Demon Lord Worshipers. We’re truly grateful you’re willing to lend us this place.”

“Not at all! It is my pleasure to be able to help! Besides, we owe everything to Ike-kun, Luna-dono and Alisa-dono! Truly, I’m always indebted to them! Hahaha!!”

King Gilga burst out laughing for some reason.

“But still, I was really shocked. Who would’ve thought the Hero that was supposed to defeat the Demon Lord would be siding with the Demon Lord Worshiper… What troublesome guys they are…”

I was shocked about that part too. The Hero was supposed to defeat the Demon Lord in the original storyline. I definitely didn’t expect Hero Julius would be siding with the Demon Lord Worshiper instead. Usually, people would like this kind of plot twist, where the protagonist ended up joining forces with the villain, but for me? They were nothing but a bunch of troublesome insects. I couldn’t be happy or excited about this sudden turn of events. If anything, I felt like dying inside because that meant I needed to work harder to ensure my happy married life with Luna.

“Indeed. Without their help, our kingdom would’ve been in ruin by now. I’m truly grateful for their help. In fact, please allow me to express my gratitude here. I would like to use this opportunity to apologize for the trouble my son, Faraus has caused…. No, to be honest, I don’t even want to think of him as my son anymore.”

Veiron bowed his head. It must be a shock to know your own son had rebelled against the nation. Moreover, his son’s mistake almost caused the destruction of the Elf Kingdom. 

“I’m grateful for your appreciation, but I was merely fulfilling my role as a saint. I was only doing what was right.”

Alisa responded to Veiron’s words. She felt bad for Veiron, but in the end, it was their family’s issues. Nothing we could do about it. To follow up, Alisa then decided to praise Luna in an exaggerated way instead. 

“More importantly, Luna-sama was even more amazing than me, you know? She cast powerful buffs to all soldiers in the palace before she boldly proclaimed, ‘I want to be with Ike-sama after all!’ then she literally flew off.”

“That’s right. Ike-sama, I really envy you to have someone like Luna-sama. I also want to have someone who can love my dearly like her.”

“Huh? But I didn’t do anything much though. Isn’t it only natural to want to be with someone you love? To be honest, I really couldn’t care less about anyone but Ike-sama…”

Luna said, genuinely feeling she was only doing the most obvious thing. 

But still!! Luna actually flew off just to be by my side! Ahh! Not finding this action to be endearing would be outright disrespectful to Luna!!

“That’s right. Ike, you can’t find a devoted girl like Luna anywhere else, you know? I believe you already know what will happen to you if you dare to cheat on Luna, right?”

“O-Of course! I only have Luna in my heart!”

Although I had nothing to be guilty about, but Marsha-nee’s words still made my heart skip a beat, not in a good way of course. It was the heart thumping from fear, as if I was trapped in a haunted house instead of heart thumping from excitement.

“Well, regardless of my contributions to this case, I believe we need to thank Luna and Alisa for protecting the people at the castle. Thanks to them, there were no casualties from the incident. Besides, I don’t really need anything. I don’t have any intention to drain the treasury, so to say. I only want Luna to be happy.”

Indeed. Thanks to Luna and Alisa, we had zero casualties from the recent incident. Thanks to Luna’s powerful buff and Alisa’s healing magic, the Elf Kingdom didn’t suffer from any fatalities. In fact, there weren’t anyone seriously injured either. The strongest final boss and the main heroine of the original story working together… It was truly a dream come true for a huge fan of Fortune Lover like me. 

“I still hope to express my gratitude in a tangible way. Not only have you helped us in times of turmoil, but you also saved my daughter’s life. If you ever need our help, please don’t hesitate to tell me. I swear I will do everything in my power to help you.”

Veiron said while patting Lycoris’ head. It was clear to see that he cherished Lycoris dearly. 

“I’m thankful for your words, King Veiron.”

Alright! Now I could seek refuge to the Elf Kingdom in case something happened to this kingdom! Of course, it would be best if nothing bad happened, but having an escape route was always the best. Luna’s happiness was my happiness and her misfortune was also my misfortune. Hence why I needed to reduce the risk of the said misfortune to the best I could.

“And I would like you to accept this as a token of my appreciation.”

Veiron used wind magic to send a metal box my way. I opened both of my hands to accept the box and the box opened on its own. I didn’t want to open it right away since opening a present right away was not good manners, but the box opened by itself. There was nothing I could do about it now. 

“This is…?”

There were some sort of sapling and large leaves rolled into a cylindrical shape inside the box. 

“This is the seedling of the Yggdrasil tree and its leaves. Leaves can only be harvested a few times a year, but if you have Yggdrasil tree seedling, you can keep harvesting the Yggdrasil tree leaves, albeit the leaves from the seedling are not as powerful as the leaves from the real Yggdrasil tree. Our sacred mother tree dropped its fruits after Ike-kun defeated the Demon Lord’s worshiper. I believe the fruit was meant for you. Please take care of it.”

“King Veiron…”

If I wasn’t wrong, the leaves of the Yggdrasil tree were necessary to grow a dragon. I could use it for the dragon egg that had been left in the care of Melcott in my territory. 

“Of course, I also wish to use this opportunity to strengthen my friendship with King Gilga. This is the land where Ike-kun was born after all. I’m sure the citizens of the Elf Kingdom will also be pleased with this decision.”

“Is that so?! Ohh!! What a joyous occasion! Let’s work together for the greater glory and prosperity of both Elves and humans!”

King Gilga exclaimed, looking extremely pleased. 

“Indeed. I should grant Ike-kun a reward too for making this relationship happen! Ah, but the only thing I can offer you right now is a new noble title… Ah, wait a moment. How about if I give you the right to enter the kingdom’s treasure vault? Only members of the royal family can enter it and they can only enter it once in their lifetime, but considering Ike-kun’s tremendous achievements for our kingdom, it is only right to give you the right to enter the treasure vault. You can take any artifact you like from there! Well, you can only take one though.”

“That… Can I?”

In the original Fortune Lover storyline, the treasure vault could only be accessed by the Hero after he defeated the final boss. The hero would then choose ‘Bond Pairing, an item to grant him a happy ending with the heroine of his choice. 

“Yes, that’s right. The Elf Kingdom has maintained its neutrality for centuries. You’re the reason we’re able to form a friendly relationship with the Elf Kingdom. This achievement deserves to be awarded!”

So I could take the item necessary to get the happy ending in the original game? I could pick Bond Pairing, an item that would allow me to have my happy ending with Luna?!

“Then I will accept your generosity gratefully!”

“Yeah! Feel free to choose whatever you like after our simple dinner!”

“Thank you very much, King Gilga!”

Which meant I just needed to stay for the formalities and then… Everything would be perfect!

Feeling excited, I enjoyed the modest party happily, looking forward to what lay ahead of us.
