Chapter 56: Waiting for My Beloved Husband’s Return SIDE Luna

“And there he goes.”

I, Luna Hanbulg, was waiting for my beloved husband to return. Here, in the royal palace of the Elf Kingdom, someone named Prince Faraus had escaped during the strategy meeting to exterminate the Demon Lord Worshiper plaguing the Elf Kingdom. And so, Ike-sama volunteered to handle the problem. 

But anyway, last night was wonderful. Ike-sama was so good to me last night. The time he devoted solely to me was more precious than anything. Good grief. The Demon Lord Worshiper and that Prince Faraus… All of them were so infuriating. They dared to disrupt my happy time with Ike-sama. I wished they would all just disappear.

“Are you worried about him?”

It was Alisa Vanded, the Saintess, who asked me that question. I wasn’t particularly fond of her. After all, her presence also reduced the time I could spend with Ike-sama. That being said, I was aware that Alisa was always considerate of me and Ike-sama. She was always accommodating to both Ike-sama and me. In fact, Alisa was the one that helped remove my reputation as a cursed child brandished by one of the church’s priests. Well, it was mostly thanks to Ike-sama’s power, but Alisa definitely helped too.

“This is Ike-sama we’re talking about. I’m sure he will be able to finish everything quickly. I don’t have a reason to be worried about him.”

I said and Alisa looked at me, smiling gently.

“So you may say, but you’re still anxious, aren’t you? Look, you’re trembling like this.”

Alisa took my right hand and held it gently.

“Is it bad of me to be feeling this way?”

Truth to be told, I was anxious. Although, this anxiety was closer to loneliness than worrying about Ike-sama’s wellbeing. I was lonely because Ike-sama left me behind to go to some far-off place I didn’t know. Given his wings, he was more free and noble and most importantly, more powerful than anything. A part of me wanted to tear off Ike-sama’s wings just so I wouldn’t feel this anxious. I wanted to bind him to me like  a bird in a cage. I wanted him to only look at me, to only feel me, so that only I could monopolize his existence. But of course… That would be far too disgusting to do.

“No, not at all. Actually, I’ve been wanting to have a conversation with you Alone, Luna-san. Since you’re always by Ike-sama’s side, I didn’t get to have that opportunity.”

“With me…? Not with Ike-sama?”

I couldn’t help but frown in confusion. I couldn’t understand what she was talking about. 

“Yes. Even so, I like seeing how happy you two like when you’re together. I can tell that Ike-sama loves you a lot, but I also want to hear your side of the story. I want to hear from you directly, in your own words. I want to know how you feel about Ike-sama.”

Alisa’s eyes practically sparkled. She had the expression of a young noble lady at a party as they delighting themselves in romantic stories. I began to speak, probably because of the genuine interest in her eyes.

“Well, I definitely adore Ike-sama. He’s the savior of my life. The only person willing to help me. Even though I was very rude to him when we were young, but his heart was benevolent enough to forgive me for that. Ah, if I may say myself, my body is developing better than other people. I can tell Ike-sama is interested in that certain part of my body. I can see him gazing intently at my chest, you see. He’s usually so dignified but when he’s letting his guard down, he will gaze at my chest so unabashedly. Of course, I find that part of him so endearing too. Being the sole recipient of Ike-sama’s gaze brings me a pleasure akin to ecstasy…”

“There’s more?”

“Why of course. My love for Ike-sama can’t be described with just that.”

Even though she was the one that asked me first, but Alisa seemed to be a bit shocked to hear my answer. It was a bit rude of her, but I was also the one at fault for not being able to stop myself. I needed to be more mindful next time. 

“Fufufu~ I’d love to hear your point more. How about if we find a time where we can take our time to talk about everything? Luna-sama probably knows better, but given that Ike-sama is so busy, I think having one day dedicated to girl talk wouldn’t hurt, don’t you think?”

To be honest, I didn’t see anything I could gain from talking with Alisa Vanded. 

“Alisa-sama, you must be busy too, right? You’re the saintess after all.”

“As a Saintess, I’m allowed to adjust my own schedule as I please. I can make time between my schedule if it means I can talk with Luna-sama. You see, hearing Luna-sama’s talk is one of my few hobbies after all.”

“You have quite an unusual hobby.”

“Well, there’s not much I can do as a woman of the church after all.”

I was trying to be sarcastic, but Alisa Vanded didn’t seem affected. That, in itself, was irritating. 

“Well, I might consider it if I could get Ike-sama’s permission. Personally speaking, I’d rather spend my time with Ike-sama—”

Suddenly, an explosion roared from below while I was talking with Alisa Vanded. The shockwave rattled the entire body, causing us to nearly lose our balance. But thanks to our quick reflexes, Alisa and I managed to support each other and avoid failing to the ground.

“Kyaaa-!! Wha-What is happening?!”

Alisa scanned our surroundings, trying to grasp the situation despite the unexpected turn of events. 

“Ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing?~”

Then, a group of people dressed in black clerical robes appeared before us. I knew those black robes.

“Demon Lord Worshiper…!”

Alisa glared at the Demon Lord Worshiper. From our perspective, this seemed like a surprise attack. A surprise attack meant we were attacked when we weren’t fully prepared. In other words, the Demon Lord Worshiper knew what they were doing all along. They were fully prepared when they launched this assault, down to our schedule and everything. 

The royal palace was engulfed in panic but even amidst the chaos, people’s reactions were varied and diverse.

“Do you think we would yield to you?”

That was King Veiron. He was completely unfazed by the surprise attack from the Demon Lord Worshiper. He truly had the quality of being a true ruler.

“It doesn’t really matter to us if you will yield or not. You’re all going to die here anyway as feed for Demon Lord-sama. However… I’ve been instructed to take that woman over there. Luna Hanbulg, we will keep you alive and take you with us. I promise that we won’t hurt you as long as you don’t resist. Well, not like resisting can do you any good~”

The Demon Lord Worshiper’s grunt sneered at me. 

“Filthy scum… Don’t get carried away. You’re in my castle. Knights! Capture every last one of these miscreants!”

King Veiron commanded and the elf knights readied their weapons against the Demon Lord Worshiper. At the same time, Alisa called out to me.

“Luna-sama! Now we know you’re their real target! They’re going to keep you hostage to use you against Ike-sama! You need to escape from here! I will clear the way, in the meantime… Luna-sama?”

Despite the emergency, Alisa was still concerned for my safety. Honestly, this part of her was impressive, but still… 

I am Ike-sama’s wife.

“So… You’re the ones trying to interfere with the love that Ike-sama and I are nurturing.”

Ike-sama must be worrying about my safety if he heard that explosion just now. I refused to give these people what they wanted. I would rather die than be captured by them and become a burden to Ike-sama. After all, I wished to stand by Ike-sama as his equal.

“Please. The power sleeping within me… Grant me the power to help Ike-sama… To help us!!”

I shouted and then, something that had been lying dormant within me awakened. White wings sprouted from my back and…

“All Enchant.”

I cast the skill to support the power of my allies here and to Ike-sama.

“I-I’m filled with power!!”

“This is our chance!! Capture them all!!”

The morale of the elf knights rose. 

“Wha-What is happening?! This is different from what they told us!! Fine!! We don’t have any other choice! Kill everyone here!! Who cares about Luna Hanbulg?! Kill her too!!”

The battle between the Elf Kingdom and the Demon Lord Worshiper broke within the royal castle. 

“Ike-sama, please just keep on fighting without worrying about me, for I am your wings.”

I murmured to myself as I waited for my beloved husband to return to me.
