Chapter 45: Divine Retribution

“Ike Hanbulg!! Are you also the Demon Lord’s underling?! Darn itttt!! Prepare to receive your divine retribution!!”

When I went to the entrance together with Luna and Marsha-nee, we found an old man dressed in the church’s uniform shouting at the top of his lungs. His eyes were bloodshot. 

“So noisy.”

“Who the hell are you guys?! I’m busy purifying this land!! Brat like you should go home already!!”

“Weren’t you the one who summoned me? I don’t know who you are, but what business do you have in front of the mansion of Sulfa’s lord?”

Technically speaking, this was the lord’s estate. King Gilga had acknowledged this place as mine and since this information had been made public, I wasn’t wrong to say that. Whether he knew who I was or not, but the fact still remained. He had summoned me, the lord of this town. He even had the audacity to insult my wife, Luna. His courage deserved some credit for that. 

“Oh? So you’re the wicked Ike Hanbulg… I’m Marwin Radiance, the Archbishop of the Holy God Church. Divine retribution shall befall you two!!”

The Holy God church was the biggest religion of this country. This was the church that revered Alisa as the Saintess. Archbishop was one rank below a Cardinal. Though his rank wasn’t as high as Alisa, but this man was a pretty important figure of the church. 

“…I don’t care that you speak ill of me, but do you even know what’s going to happen to you after you insult my wife, Luna, in my own territory?”

“Silence!! The existence of the Demon Lord and filthy humans like you are the reason why this town is plagued by this rotten egg smell…. This smell alone is enough proof that the whole city has been corrupted by the influence of the Demon Lord’s magic!”

“This guy… He doesn’t even know what sulfur is…?”

At this point, this guy wasn’t just dumb. He was purely ignorant. 

“More importantly… Marwin-san, are you aware that Ike is the son of a duke? Insulting Ike is the same as insulting the entire Hanbulg ducal house. Are you sure you know the extent of your action?”

“Silence, young lass!! I’ve received a divine oracle! Everything shall go according to the will of God! The book has stated that the Demon Lord specializes in dark magic!!”

“Hooo~ I see~”

Just from Marsha-nee’s tone of voice alone, I could tell she was furious. In fact, the corners of her mouth seemed to be twitching a bit. Basically, this man was the main culprit that caused Luna to be unhappy in the original storyline of Fortune Lover. He never made an appearance in the game. Which was why I didn’t realize this guy was my main enemy all along. 

“In that case… All the more reason to not forgive him…”

“Is something the matter?”

A familiar face appeared from behind me. It was Alisa.

“Oh my, if it isn’t Lord Marwin? Do you have any business with the church at Sulfur? You are quite diligent with your patrols.”

It seemed Alisa hadn’t grasped the situation yet. Perfect. I could use Alisa’s position as the Saintess to my advantage. 

“Saintess-sama, apparently Lord Marwin is here to deliver divine retribution upon Luna, whom he said to be the Demon Lord and me, her husband. He claimed that Luna is corrupting this land… Shall I take his word as the opinion of the church?”

“Lord Marwsin… Is that true?”

Alisa said this in a low tone, looking obviously upset.

“I speak nothing but the truth. Alisa-sama, even you have been corrupted by them!”

“Please stop talking. They’re the people that have saved the kingdom from danger at least twice. In other words, they are the heroes of this nation. You are being horribly disrespectful to them.”

“See?! Just as I thought! Alisa-sama is not in her right mind!!”

“Who’s not in their right mind now?”

Alisa’s gaze was piercing cold. 

“Lord Marwin, you’re being hostile both to the Holy God Church and the kingdom. Moreover, accusing the innocents as criminals… I’m disappointed in you.”

Alisa paused for a moment before she continued.

“Marwin Radiance. As the Saintess, I hereby expel you from the Holy God Church. What you are doing right now is against the church’s principles.”

“Wha-?! Why me?!”

“I was feigning ignorance at first… I was hoping you would cease your foolish actions, but apparently I was wrong. I’ve been watching since the beginning. You were being rude to our savior. Your actions are unacceptable, especially as a clergyman who is supposed to represent the church. From now on, the church has no connection with you anymore.”

“Wha-What…?!”

Marwin stuttered as he collapsed to his knees on the ground.

“You!! I will remember this!! I will never forgive you!!”

“Is that so? Then you better leave this town quickly. Otherwise… Heh. You know what will happen to you, right?”

I had a personal vendetta against this guy and he no longer had any power whatsoever. No one in their right mind would defend Marwin now. 

“Ah, right. Let me tell you this one last thing.”

I raised my middle finger at Marwin. 

“Even if Luna were to become the Demon Lord, our love still remains true. Insignificant bug like you better stay away from our love.”

If this guy dared to insult Luna again, I would put him through hell on earth, so much so that he would be begging for death. I turned my attention to Luna before continuing on.

“Luna. I’m sorry for letting this wretch insult you. His words must’ve hurt you, right?’

“No…♡ I don’t mind what’s going to happen to me as long as Ike-sama is here to protect me.♡”

Luna said ever so sweetly. I knew I shouldn’t be thinking about this, but Luna looked incredibly cute despite everything that happened. 

“Ike-sama, Luna-sama, I apologize for the unpleasant experience.”

“No, on the contrary, I got to see something good instead.”

“I’m glad to hear you say that.”

“…Shall we head back now?”

So I said when…

“Ah, that’s right.”

Marsha-nee suddenly said. It seemed she had just remembered something.

“I have something I need to give you, Ike.”

Marsha-nee said as she handed me an egg. 

“This is a dragon egg. Why don’t you try raising it?”

“Huh…?”

Marsha-nee suddenly dropped a shocking bomb out of nowhere.

Chapter 46: A Request From Lycoris

“Your recent feat against the Demon Lord Worshipper was commendable. I apologize for not congratulating you sooner.”

We were in a suite room that I had loaned to the third princess of the Elf Kingdom, Lycoris. She was the one that summoned me here, which was why I came here. 

“Not at all, Princess Lycoris.”

“Just Lycoris is fine. It must be annoying to add ‘princess’ every time you address me, right?”

“I appreciate your kindness. Then, if I may, I will call you Lycoris from now on.”

“Yes. Please do.”

Lycoris and I sipped the tea that Melcott had prepared for us. It was a gracious offer, but it didn’t change the fact that Lycoris was a dignitary from the Elf Kingdom.

“Well, then. Ike-sama, I apologize for summoning you here all of a sudden. The reason I called you here is because I have something I need to ask from you.”

A direct request from the third princess of the Elf Kingdom. If I could complete her request, I could establish a good foundation for my happy married life with Luna both domestically and internationally. Earning the Elf Kingdom’s favor could help mitigate the danger to our future. 

“I am at your service, Third Princess Lycoris-sama.”

“Then, without further ado… I would like to ask you to eliminate the Demon Lord Worshippers that are infesting the Elf Kingdom. The Elf Kingdom needs your power, Ike-sama.”

“I take it the Elf Kingdom has suffered significant damage from the Demon Lord Worshiper?”

“Yes… Our citizens have gone missing and more importantly…”

Lycoris sighed deeply before she continued on. Her tone was aghast. 

“Our information said that they’re trying to destroy Yggdrasil, the symbol of our kingdom.”

“Yggdrasil, you say…”

Yggdrasil was a giant tree that grew in the center of the Elf Kingdom. In the original storyline of Fortune Lover, the hero foiled the Demon Lord Worshippers’ plan to destroy Yggdrasil, but this event only took place in the latter half of the game.

“Yes… The knights of our kingdom are guarding the tree relentlessly, but we’re only able to assume a defensive position. Something needs to be done. We can’t keep on living like this.”

“I see. So you’re here to find a way to solve the problem your kingdom has with the Demon Lord Worshiper…”

“Yes, but we don’t have enough information about the Demon Lord Worshiper. That’s why I’m here to meet with King Gilga in secret, to share information about the Demon Lord Worshipers.”

In other words, while the Elf Kingdom wasn’t in great danger, but they wanted to prevent the situation from worsening. In the original storyline, the hero was the one that defeated the Demon Lord Worshiper and prevented the Yggdrasil from getting destroyed. Since the flow of the story had changed so much from the original, I couldn’t even know for certain that the hero would be the one to defeat the Demon Lord Worshiper or not this time.

“Since I heard Ike-sama has defeated a high-ranking individual from the Demon Lord Worshiper, I believe Ike-sama is the right person for this job.”

“I’m honored to accept the request of the Third Princess of the Elf Kingdom.”

So I could earn the favor of the Elf Kingdom, which would serve as a stepping stone to my happy married life with Luna. I shall do my best to fulfill Lycoris’ request. However… There was one big problem. The Elf Kingdom, or to be precise, the elves… They had one big flaw. 

Their incredulously high pride. 

In the game, the elves were very arrogant and tended to look down on humans. Well, I didn’t really care actually. As long as they didn’t insult Luna, I could take on their prideful banter without any hard feelings. Besides, the one requesting my presence was Lycoris herself. 

“By the way, how’s your injury?”

“Yes. Thanks to Ike-sama’s help, I have recovered enough to move on my own.”

“That’s good to hear.”

“Now then, shall we depart tomorrow? As the princess of the Elf Kingdom, I will prepare all the necessities you might need in the Elf Kingdom.”

“Understood.”

I gave Lycoris an elaborate bow, befitting her position as the princess.

Well, on the bright side… I could think of this as an overseas trip with Luna, or to be precise… Our honeymoon trip!
