ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
I, Luna Olhein, was cursed. Although I said ‘cursed’, but it wasn’t like I incurred someone’s wrath and cursed by them. I was talking about possessing cursed power. The fact that I bore the cursed power came to light on my 15th birthday. Every year, I would receive blessings at the church on my birthday. Every single year, without fail.
However, on that fateful day, everything changed when a high-ranking person at the church said to me.
“You are cursed. One day, your power will destroy the world.”
That was the beginning of everything. To be honest, I thought that person was speaking nonsense. However, gradually, those around me started treating me colder and colder. That being said, as the daughter of a duke, I thought I wouldn’t be treated with disrespect. I thought a mere prophecy wouldn’t change my life, since a prophecy couldn’t be trusted.
However, reality was proven to be different than my expectations. The most shocking moment was when I began to be targeted by assassins. That was when I realized the gravity of my situation. What hit me the hardest was how my loving parents, who had always cared for me deeply, started to keep their distance from me.
“Luna, from now on, you can live as you please. However, you’re not allowed to stay in Olhein mansion. Ah, that’s right. We have a villa in the frontier region. You can stay there. It would be good for you to spend your time there.”
Those words of my father still lingered in my mind. The journey to the frontier region was grueling to say the least. As someone from the duke family, he should know that the best. It was basically his way of telling me to die.
“I don’t care if you die. In fact, it’d be better if you did.”
In fact… Maybe my parents were the one that hired all those assassins. Anxiety and despair started to wash over me. I couldn’t stop the negative feelings from bubbling up inside of me.
And so, in order to protect myself, I knew I had to seek shelter somewhere. From close friends to relatives who used to care for me, I ran around to everyone I knew all by myself. Everything for the sake of my survival. However, all my efforts were in vain. By now I realized my parents must had exerted their influence on everyone I knew.
And then, I was down to my last option, Ike-sama. A son of a duke, a family that held the same pedigree as mine. I was aware it was shameless of me to seek his help. After all, when Ike-sama confessed his love to me when we were young, I immediately blurted out.
“M-Me and Ike-sama?! Do-Don’t you think you ought to think about it a little more?!”
Truthfully, I was trying to hide my embarrassment from being confessed. I didn’t know any other boys around my age except for Ike-sama. At the same time, I also wasn’t sure if it was okay for Ike-sama to be around someone like me. Hence why, I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind without thinking it through.
Only after Ike-sama ran out did I realize the implications behind my words. He believed I had rejected him, even though that wasn’t the case at all. I didn’t dislike him. Far from the contrary, I actually liked him. I liked him so much it hurt.
However, I knew my excuse held no value. After that incident, Ike-sama started to play around with women. I had a hunch Ike-sama became like that because of me. He must had wanted to forget about me one way or another. Hence why, I knew I shouldn’t ask Ike-sama for help, not after everything I had done to him. However… I had nowhere else to go.
I was prepared to accept any kind of punishment Ike-sama would give to me. No matter how harsh he treated me, I was ready to take everything in. A part of me also believed the curse was my punishment for what I had done to Ike-sama.
However, contrary to my thoughts, Ike-sama treated me so kindly.
“I will definitely protect you, Luna.”
He said with the same smile he gave to me when we were children.
And then, when the maid of his family insulted me, Ike-sama also got angry for my sake. Actually, I also thought of killing the maid when she insulted Ike-sama. I didn’t care when she insulted me, I didn’t mind that at all. But, when she dared to insult Ike-sama… I was furious.
That being said, when Ike-sama stood to defend me, I found myself blushing until my face felt hot. Ike-sama mistakenly nursed me all night long because he thought I had caught a cold.
Now, Ike-sama was fast asleep. He must had been tired from staying up all night long.
“I mustn’t. At this rate, I won’t be able to hold myself down.”
I covered Ike-sama with one of the two blankets provided, almost too protectively. The blankets in here were thick. A thick blanket like this was a rare luxury, something that was far more comfortable than the thin ones I had been used to. This thick blanket almost felt way too warm for me even.
“Ah… My love for Ike-sama knows no bounds.”
I rolled up the remaining thick blanket and hugged it as a substitute for Ike-sama. For now, this roll would suffice.
If someone else were to see us, they might think we had gone all the way through. However, we hadn’t crossed that line yet. I feared if I stepped even further than this, I would crave for him more and more for eternity. Hence why, I had to endure.
“Ike-sama… I won’t leave your side even if I die.”
I rolled up the blanket into Ike-sama size and then I buried my face into it, pretending I was nestling into my husband, Ike-sama’s chest. After checking Ike-sama, who was lying on the bed in front of me was still sleeping peacefully, I too, drifted off to sleep.
