Chapter 38: Unexpected Turn of Events SIDE Orthrus

“Raiza-kun, Julius-dono, I believe we will soon receive wonderful results.”

30 minutes before Ike Hanbulg set out to attack our hideout. I, Orthrus Vilheim, was intoxicated by a sense of superiority, thinking I was invincible. By planting our agents among a group of bandits during the Black Dragon incident, I managed to lure the detestable saintess, Alisa Vanded, to Sulfur City. We then let out a huge horde of ogres to attack the city, turning both the inhabitants of the city and Alisa into ogre’s prey. 

And thus… I could plunge the world into chaos, just like what the Demon Lord preferred. The Demon Lord would surely be pleased.

“As expected from Orthrus-san. By wonderful results, you mean we will get Ike bastard being beaten to pulp, right?”

“Why of course. Ah, right. If you wish to see it happen before the city falls, you might want to go take a look at it yourselves.”

“Well then, I will gladly take up on your offer then. Hero-sama, you will come along too, right?”

“Yeah. Our existence can serve as an additional threat to Ike’s life too. Might as well come along.”

“Then I, Euclid, will also come along, Raiza-sama.”

It might be odd to hear this coming from someone like me, but the Hero was not like what everyone imagined him to be. Of course, I found this unexpected surprise to be quite delightful. 

“That’s right. Raiza-kun, could I have a moment?”

I told Hero Julius to leave first so I could talk with Raiza-kun in private. 

“What is it?”

“Hero… He’s a talented individual who could be used as a catalyst for the revival of the Demon Lord. If we corrupt the holy stigmata, we can turn it into a powerful demon mark instead. I’ve already sent messages to various locations. If you plan to use the other Demon Lord Worshipper’s hideout, please go together with the Hero.”

“Hmm… Sounds interesting enough. I will keep that in mind.”

With that, Raiza-kun and Euclid followed after Hero Julius. Prideful people like him were easy to manipulate. The more pawns we had, the better. I needed to set up multiple plans just to be safe.

“Orthrus-sama, I have something to report.”

“Ah, just what I’ve been waiting for.”

While I was talking with Raiza-kun, a man who had been in charge of monitoring the movements of the ogre came to report. These people were considered expendable pawns, but still… They could be useful. After all, I was the one giving them the orders. With me as the head, success was practically guaranteed. 

However, the report I received from him shocked me to the core. 

“What?! The horde of ogres has been annihilated?! And they didn’t even get to reach the city yet?!”

I couldn’t comprehend it. It hadn’t been an hour since I activated the dark magic circles! 

“Yes. The summoning was a success, but the horde of ogre was annihilated by a magic spell cast by a boy who appears to be Ike Hanbulg. The entirety of the ogre horde was killed in the blink of an eye.”

“Impossible…”

I felt like I had just heard a stupid joke. However, if it was true Ike Hanbulg had single-handedly defeated 500 ogres in the span of one hour… That meant he had just used magic power enough to defeat 500 ogres. He shouldn’t be able to unleash magic of the same caliber in the near future. No human could do that, even with an artifact. 

Besides, I had prepared backup plans. The thing that happened to the ogres was beyond my expectation, but I had more plans to plunge the world into chaos. 

“E-Excuse me…!”

Or so I thought. Suddenly, a man from a different team came to me. Thinking about it, I remembered this was the man that I had ordered to kidnap the third princess of the Elf Kingdom. 

“I-I’m sorry…! We failed to kidnap the third princess of the Elf Kingdom!”

“And…?”

After I had gone out of my way to send our men to infiltrate the Elf Kingdom and narrowed down the princess’ route… These guys had failed?! I asked him back with those implications in mind, but…

“N-No! We managed to injure the Third Princess and killed several of her guards. The rest of her escort team sustained severe injuries that left them unable to fight. But still, we didn’t expect the guards would fight that fiercely…”

However, this foolish one failed to understand my implications. All I received in return were measly excuses. How disappointing. 

“I see… Then? You’ve managed to track down their next route, haven’t you?”

“Yes…! It seems they’re going to seek refuge in Sulfur City!”

“Sulfur City, you say…”

That was the city governed by Ike Hanbulg and also the same city that was supposed to be destroyed by the horde of ogres. Hearing the name Sulfur mentioned again reminded me of one particular man. Ike Hanbulg. 

But, that meant all of our enemies were gathered in one spot. The Saintess, the Third Princess, Ike Hanbulg, all of them were in Sulfur. This might be good for us in a way.

“Very well. I will take over the rest.”

“My sincerest apology, Orthrus-sama. Then, I will—ARGH?!?! W-WHY?!”

Using my bare hand, I gouged the heart of the foolish pawn. 

“Rejoice. Your life will be used as a fuel to revive the Demon Lord. You can die as a devout apostle of the Demon Lord.”

I bit directly into the freshly gouged heart. The rich, fresh scent of iron filled my mouth and I could feel the dark magic power permeating throughout my body. This was the pleasure the Demon Lord had bestowed upon this world. 

Power surged through every part of my body. I felt exhilarated, my brain was overjoyed. All of this was thanks to the Demon Lord. 

“Right. Get someone to clean the mess.”

I said as I threw the useless corpse away. The pleasure was one thing, but getting this sacred place tainted by the blood of stupid fools was unacceptable. 

“Well, I have the divine protection of the Demon Lord. In the worst case, I can just handle those guys myself.”

With this power surging throughout my body, killing one of two mere humans like them would be a child’s play to me. Maybe I should just destroy the whole city along with the Saintess myself. 

“Alright. It’s decided. I should start—What is this? This magic reaction….”

I could sense a powerful magic approaching us at rapid speed. This magic felt distinctive. 

Getting a bad feeling, I immediately deployed the strongest defensive magic I had, but…

“Wha-What…?! Darn it!!”

The SS-class magic barrier was destroyed in a single blow. 

“What the heck is happening now?!”

I shouted in response at the unexpected turn of events. Then, something descended down from the sky. 

“Oi. I’ve been dying to meet you guys, Demon Lord Worshipper…”

The one that descended from the sky was a mere human boy.
